Good afternoon, everyone.
Yesterday’s post.
I’m late posting today bc I went to the Rock Allegiance festival yesterday and didn’t get home til late, so after I got up to feed everyone and give meds I went back to bed and slept in pretty late. I’m glad I went because I think I needed to get out, and Frosty is stable right now so this was the time to go. I had VIP tix which were pretty expensive. At first I tried to sell them but couldn’t get anyone to buy. But anyway, it ended up being a great show.
Frosty is doing OK. He’s still weak and less active, but is meowing at me and eating. Not like before, but better than when he feels sick.
I changed his dressing yesterday before i left. Instead of multiple pieces of gauze that would shift and cause leakage I used an ABD pad and that seemed to have worked really well. No fluid leaking from dressing as far as I can see today. I also used wider stretchy wrap and covered his whole abdomen so the whole contraption doesn’t slide up. It’s holding for now so I’ll try to do the same tomorrow. I’m trying to do every other day dressing changes because the area is clean and I wanna keep it that way, and also that gives us both a break from a stressful situation.
Last night the pet sitter came and gave him his insulin and he did fine and took all his meds. The only one she didn’t give was the appetite stimulant so I’ll resume that today. It’s a liquid and I didn’t want her to give it to him bc he hates it, he makes lip smacking noises and tries to spit it out. My poor guy.
I’m wondering whether to increase his insulin to 2.25. That’s the dose he was on before this nightmare started a month ago. He had some nice blues 3-4 nights ago but since then seemed to have been hanging in the 200s. Some high 100s today, but we are also using a human meter now which means he’s actuwlly higher.
On one hand, we started Vetoryl this week so he could be going lower in the future. But on the other, I don’t rly want him above the renal threshold bc he’s now taking lasix and he’s peeing and drinking so much! I don’t want hyperglycemia to exacerbate this.
Please advise. @Wendy&Neko tagging you for some input
Oh, also! A colleague of mine is looking for a home for her mother in law’s 13 year old cat. She’s moving and had to give away all her pets after her husband died - financial issues, very difficult situation. I want to help but as you know, it would be a terrible idea for me to take on a 5th pet given what Frosty and I are dealing with right now. Please see my post in community forum for more information, and let me know if anyone is interested or can help. http://www.felinediabetes.com/FDMB/threads/healthy-13-year-old-cat-for-adoption-in-nj.204356/ Thank you
