Hi everybody and thanks again for last night.

I woke up about 20 minutes ago, he was awake looking at me. Wanted to go outside which is often a sign of nauseu (sometimes due to empty stomach). Looks like he may not have eaten anything else from his plate through the night. Went to hide under the sofa (not great).

So do I need to test him early at +11 to check and see how he is doing? Or just wait until normal time? Or should I feed him? All this testing is kind of traumatic for him.

I surely do not want to start another round of this. Poor guy and poor me. I have a neurological condition, one aspect of which I am trying to heal, is insomnia. Last night didn't help either the condition nor the insomnia. I need to avoid this kind of thing as much as possible.

Thanks a bunch.

Maybe I should just test him early and call it +12? He's still hiding and doesn't seem great. Although, doesn't seem great isn't unusual.

The idea would be to test, post for advice before feeding or giving insulin this morning, I think. That way, if the number is lower than you may be comfortable giving insulin.

Sure, go ahead and test. Is it +11 now?
Yes it is +11.

I don't want to overtest him. He hates it. That alone could be the reason he is hiding, anticipating another test.

Last night sometimes he just gave up, but other times he would hide, see me coming and run to a different hiding place.

So if I test him now, can we just call it +12?

Not necessarily, unfortunately...a +11 is also intended to see if a number is rising or falling at shot time.

If he is bouncing and has gone high, then, maybe...

Okay I'm starting the BG testing process, by the time this happens it will be fairly close to +12 anyway. BG test happened between 8:45 and 8:50.

Okay, it was 264, at +11.5.

We shot last night around 9:30 I am not 100% precise with time. So if we did 15 minutes early that would be 9:15 am and it is now 8:55.

By the time I cook his food, feed him, chase him, give him shot, it would be 9:15. Unless we need another BG test. Now it's 9:05.

I'm nervous about giving the insulin and starting another big drop, so I will wait for advice.

I need to leave the house at noon today to go to a PT appointment in Denver, and I will be gone from noon to three at least.

He seems to be bouncing. Is there a reason you don't want to shoot?
Can you get a test before you leave for your PT appointment?

ETA: I don't think another test at +12 is necessary - considering how difficult it is to test him. I would save that for before you leave.

Thanks Bhooma. I just don't want the insulin to lower his number so much that he goes way low again. A repeat of last night would not be fun.

Okay so I will feed and shoot.

Yes I can test mid-cycle. We are doing fairly okay with having two tests each cycle.

I'm no expert and have a hard time predicting Bandit's numbers (I have spent many many hours staring at her SS trying to figure her out), but it doesn't look like Squeaky is going to drop again so soon. He is bouncing from new lows and I expect it will take him some time to clear the bounce.

If you could test him before you leave and feed him accordingly, I think you should be okay. Paws crossed.

Well, he didn't eat a whole lot of raw. So I cooked some but couldn't entice him to eat. Gave him his shot at 9:25. Still couldn't entice him to eat.

I'll get breakfast and dressed then we can go outside. That makes him feel better. It'll be good for both of us to have me out of the house for a number of hours. Emotional relief. I'll leave food out for him all day and test before I leave around noon. That'll be at 2.5 so we'll know the results of the insulin.

Thank you so much for your help. :bighug: Don't you sleep either?

Definitely a bounce. That’s why you need the +12. A lot can happen in an hour. If the +11 is much higher than your last test it’s usually safe to shoot but it’s best to be cautious.

Okay well it didn't happen. I'll eat, dress, and take him outside for a while. Then re-test around noon. Sounds okay?

It sounds like your +11 was close to 12 and high enough to shoot. That made it ok to not get a +12 si agree. Yes you don’t need to test until noon.

Oh crap. I miscalculated. I have to leave at 11:15 at the very latest. Squeaky hasn't eaten anything else and isn't interested in food. He is hiding behind the sofa (I set off the smoke alarm cooking bacon) and isn't interested in eating raw food.

I'm putting a question mark to draw attention, with the hopes that when I test at 11 someone will be there to coach me. Thank you.

Okay I just got him to eat 14 pieces of raw meat. Whew. I will test in a few minutes.

Back and he was hiding. Looked rough, hadn't eaten. I hand fed him 25 pieces of raw pork. Now we are going outside. Oh, this little guy, this little guy.

Nobody answered the question about the unusual behavior around the water bowl, recently and for a while. Clawing around the bowl, and clawing the bowl. I do not know how to tag people, can you help? Thanks.

Hey! Welcome back.

I’m not sure about the water bowl...I have had one kitty who likes to dip his paws into the water and lick it off his paws...I just think he is being funny. He did it with food too. I have a kitten right now, who insists on drinking out of a Plastic glass and likes to hold the glass with his paws as though he wants to pick it up like a human...spills it often.

is it fresh? Maybe he wants new water?

Also, small housekeeping item... can you please update your thread title with your am cycle numbers so others can see where you and squeaky are at? Thanks!!!!

Jan, you're west coast, right? I see in your signature Mountain Time, so I'm thinking some folks like @Wendy&Neko or @tiffmaxee or even @Chris & China (GA) may be around to help you with the PM dosage questions.

I'm not sure what to think about the water bowl pawing, etc. Not sure if he's playing around or what was going on there.

Please post again when you're back from your PT appointment...I'm not likely to be around as I'm an early to bed/early to rise gal...and 5 a.m. gets to the east coast waaaaay too early.

I hope things settle down for you this afternoon/evening.

Thanks please keep bugging me until I get used to this. See what happens when I don't get sleep. I'm already spacy even when I do sleep well. LOL.

Thanks everybody for checking back in. After PT, he ate 25 pieces of raw pork and I took him outside. He kind of hid and slept in the playpen for a while (and I slept on the grass). Then he wanted me to put on his halter and we walked (HAHA mostly a few paces then sit and look around) for about an hour. He came up the stairs on his own accord (I'm SO glad when he gets exercise) and then I left him at home and went for a walk for about an hour. When I came back he was all animated and wanted to go out again! I carried him outside in my arms for a quick walking turn around the area. Hey, I haven't done much of anything for 24 hours except care for the cat so guess what kind of a mess the house and everything else is.

Anyway he seems very fine -- I think going outside really lifts his spirits and helps more than anything. I will test him PMPS and let y'all know.

Thanks for all the checking on us.

And the thing about the water seems odd. I will google it and see if I learn anything.

We really need to have a better night tonight......

??? So he didn't have his 2.5 prednisilone today. He is doing marvelously tonight. I almost hate to give it to him. What does anyone think?

We have a telephone consultation with the vet tomorrow. (thurs)

Found an interesting article about water. I will try moving his water dish and see if that helps.

Looking forward to a quiet night with good sleep.
Thanks everyone.
