I've made the decision that I need to be prepared to put Susie down. When I found her last night, to test her, I thought she was on her "last leg". Limp and very out of it.

This morning she did come out for food. Ate about 1/2. Was hiding behind the couch. Ears down. Just not feeling well. She came into the Florida Room and is lying beside the window but just sleeping. This is not the life I want for her. I don't see the light and happiness in her eyes anymore.

Please don't tell me what to do or make me feel guilty for my thoughts. I also do not have the resources to continue with the vet visits, test, medicines, etc. and I don't want want to continue to drag her to the vets. I will watch her the next few days but this will be my decision. I appreciate everyone's support.

♥Hi Summer it just breaks my heart for you and Susie.
I would never judge you or make you feel guilty.
I would not want that kind of life for her either. Whatever you decide to do I support you. Please kiss her for me. :bighug::bighug::bighug:

I stopped the bupe. Last she had it was yesterday morning. My options are limited. Either prednisolone or chlorambucil. A diet change could take too long. We know the risk with the pred on a diabetic cat. Reading about the chlormbucil did not make me feel good either. So many precautions and I cannot pill Susie. @Suzanne & Darcy When you had cats on the pred. did you give the tablet or the liquid and how often and how much? Did you say any of these cats were diabetic? By the way, please tell me how Ginger is. Thank you all for your comments and care.

Hi Summer. Love you! I never used the liquid Prednisolone but that was only because I had cats easy to pill. A lot of people use liquid pred @Tina Marie and Jan. None of the cats were diabetic. The person on this board currently with the diabetic cat on pred is Katherine and she had to “prioritize” the disease over the diabetes and manage with more insulin.

Also, with Chlorambucil, usually the only treatments that go along with it are Cerenia and or Zofran prior to administering. Honestly, with my Maverick I never even had to use anti nausea meds because he had no unpleasant side effects — but I hesitate to mention that because it’s not that way for everyone. But he was on twice a week dosing instead of pulsed dosing.

I would be surprised if your vet wanted to start with Chlorambucil without first trying pred. If he understands that the choices appear to be try Prednisolone or euthanasia, maybe he will be willing. He probably doesn’t want Susie’s BG in green anyway! Most vets don’t.

My civvie was given compounded liquid Pred. She does not mind it at all. We began twice a day dosing, and tapered down to twice a week for now.

I hesitate to bring up my own D again, but it is my personal experience too -
If I need prednisone, I need it!! Glucose just has to be managed better and insulin adjustments made.
Silly example - wasp sting in the mouth; with quick swelling - no decent doctor would deny me prednisone because I’m a diabetic.

Katherine’s Ruby feels pretty good and that makes me happy. Sure, her BG isn’t what it was before needing Pred, but she needed the Pred. :)

Yes, I was just looking at Ruby's spreadsheet earlier today. Poor Katherine. I think Ruby was down to one drop before the diagnosis. I see the highs and lows in her glucose since the start of the pred. I was surprised with the amount Ruby was getting. 5mg and 7.5mg a day. I read that you should start with 1mg but I guess every cat is different. I'm happy for Katherine. It seems to be helping Ruby to feel better.

Ouch! Wasp sting in the mouth????? Thanks for the info on the Pred with your civvie. How much did you start with? I think it would probably be different for a diabetic cat.

Summer, no one should judge you for your decisions regarding Susie. You know her. You love her. You want the best for her. I understand to some small degree the pain, frustration, and the hopelessness of the situation. Many of us have been there or been close to those who have made those decisions you are facing. Sometimes you do just want it to be over with--no more pain. Enjoy her, love her as long as you have her. I pray for your peace. Nothing is easy here no matter which way you go.

@Summer and Susie Hi Amethyst does not do well at all on BUPE or MIRTAZ, We have been trying Hololistic Treatments and they are working very well Susie probably NEEDS the Prednisolone. Amethyst NEEDS is to breath in the FALL She gets the compounded TUNA Flavor and loves it You just have to work her Insulin numbers around it .See Tina and Suzanne agree she needs the PRED because do not consider letting her go until the Pred it tried:bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug:

I use Prednisolone for Amethysts Asthma 14 Day with decreases. Never been a problem with her BG @Summer and Susie

That standard starting dose for IBD is 5 mg. daily. Anything less than that as a starting dose for IBD or SCL is underdosing. Like I said, on the IBD list, I've seen people complaining that pred was not helping their cats. I asked how much they were getting... stuff like 2.5 mg... I told them it was being underdosed and they can't expect much. Now, for certain conditions the cat has to stay at 5 mg. (even for life) for other conditions, the dose can be tapered (and you see how the cat does.)

No. For IBD or SCL you start at 5 mg. Standard of care.

ETA: It's just that you NEVER abruptly stop giving any steroid. It needs to be tapered off gradually.

Hubby left his Pepsi can outside. My BG was low, and instead of going indoors for glucose tabs or OJ, I grabbed the Pepsi and took a drink. Oops, a wasp had gotten in the can before me!

Molly started on 1 ml twice a day /one milliliter equals 5 mg of Pred. After 5 days, down to 5mg daily, then to every other day. Now twice a week. In addition to thicker intestines (IBD or lymphoma), she had an angry gallbladder and liver, which I am giving Ursodiol for. Waiting to learn from her giving blood two days ago if her ALT has gone down. She is feeling better and acting happy to eat. She is up another ounce in two days. Nice baby steps. Gained a half pound plus an ounce in a month.

That is fantastic, Jan! I hope it's not lymphoma, but it's great to hear that you've been able to wean her down. That's always best when possible, unless symptoms return and we hope they won't with your little sweetie! I hope that he blood work will show ALT down. Do you give her any liver supplement like milk thistle or denamarin or anything or are you thinking you already have to give her enough meds!! :bighug:

By the way, please tell me how Ginger is.
Thanks for asking Summer! I almost forgot to reply to this question.

Here was the update I put on Pamela's condo last evening. I'll copy it here:
Hi Pamela!!! I hope you had a good day. I just wanted to update you and a few people who were following what was going on with Ginger. She had her ultrasound yesterday, and everything looked really good - stomach, liver, kidneys, spleen, gallbladder, bladder, intestinal loops, etc. she even took a peak at her heart and said there was no evidence of any heart disease. I am so relieved. And Ginger is eating like a little piggy. She has about 6 days of Baytril left to go.

I think I forgot to tag you .... no... now I remember... I read what you posted about Susie not wanting to eat and I thought... she doesn't need to hear about my goings-on! I guess Ginger just had an infection (although we still need to re x-ray the lungs in about a month to check for changes). Who knows??

Wait? So when did Amethyst stop needing the pred for her asthma? You use Flovent now instead.
Amethyst will ALWAYS need her Flovent Inhaler the rest of her life like me:cat::( She only got put on Prednislone when she was wheezing and having trouble breathing But like I said earlier Amethyst JoJo and myself are taking Holisitic Remedies, one of them Respiratory Systems Support from PranaPets It has been a wonder care for all of us!!!:bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug:@Suzanne & Darcy
