Hey everyone !!!! Hope every1 is doing good today especially all the sugar bbs out there !!! I’ve started my journey and I’m determined to get my sweety money on the right dosage and hopefully in remisssion . I’ve started ear pricking which hasn’t been soo bad but I’ve realized I’m not testing as much as I should !!! I will from now on and hopefully will have a libre to do a full curb !!! I have decided to go with the SLGS method .I was wondering if any1 would look over her chart and let me know what u think !!?! I feel like she’s doing much better ,what do u think????
 
Hello and welcome to the LBL forum. Waving at you from the BC coast.:) I noticed in your previous post that no one linked this food list for you as yet more options: CANADIAN Food Chart

When you start the Freestyle, could you put a blank line in the spreadsheet the day before, and write something like "starting Libre" so we know that's what we are seeing following that. You will also want to double check any lows with the human meter, so don't throw that one away. Money's spreadsheet is sure starting to look a lot better. With SLGS, you want the low points or nadirs to fall between 90 and 149. I see she had a 72 on the sixth. Let's see how she does with the Libre and whether you see another number below 90. If so, you'll have to reduce the dose by 0.25 units.
 
Will do !!!! I’m waiting on the vetbond glue as I will be trying to install myself . So until then I will be using the contour next . So if I understand well if she get greens at nadir I should reduce ..?

I was also wondering if u were familiar with the libre and if there was a difference in glucose reading ? Reason I’m askin is if u notice in the beginning of my ss, numbers were really high with the libre and since switching ,all tho not much testing, her numbers are a lot lower ! 5/29 my vet told me she wasn’t responding to insulin and that I would have to see a specialist and change insulin !!! Yet I’ve kept her on same dose and numbers seem to be getting better !! Also.. how many time should I test her ?

Greens 90 and above are fine on SLGS.

Since I'm in the west, my local stores might not be the same prices as yours. Tagging @Marj & Djoko who is much closer to you and and may know best places for supplies.

The Libre shouldn't be far off a human meter. It's also possible that her pancreas is healing somewhat so the numbers are improving because of that.

Ok thanks !!! So I should stay at 1u ? I’m not sure but my vet told me this because he said she goes really down then back up … and that it’s suppost to be more of a straight line … how do I achieve that ? Should I up the dose ?
 
No, do not up the dose. With SLGS, if your low points are in the 90-149 range, which they are, you hold the dose. It's very common for newly diagnosed diabetics (and even some not so new) to have a lot of variability in their numbers. Take a look around at other people's spreadsheets to get an idea. If you can find ones of other new cats, even better.

Hello, bonjour, I am from Mtl too ;). My cat has been using a Libre for couple times and there is a gap/difference in values between the human meter and the Libre. I have spoken with Abbott customer service and they said that when you look at the BG on Libre (with the censor), you should test the cat 10 minutes later and the variance should not be more than 20%. Based on my experience, I have noticed that at the beginning, the Libre and human BG tend to give similar results but towards the end or on some days (randomly), the gap may be higher (I mean 3-4 mmol/L) which is a lot. So many time, the Libre showed LO while he was in the healthy range (50-80). Each time you get BG values closer to 3.7, I would start using the human meter to see if the Libre is acting up or if he is really going lower. I have made the mistake to give Djoko maple syrup, relying on the Libre, while he was in safe numbers. I know the the purpose is to not test the cat, but it is not as reliable as a strip. I would suggest you doing manual tests here and there to see if the results are close enough. Also, the higher the BG values are on Libre, the higher the gap is as compared to human meter with strips. I am going to bed but do not hesitate to contact me or tag me.

I am now located in Ottawa so I am not sure where I would buy supplies . For the Libre, it is a bit cheaper at Costco but not by much. For the strips, I also use contour next and buy them at Shoppers (pharmaprix à Montréal) and they cost 85$ for 100$. I bought some on Amazon the other day as they were cheaper i.e. 65$ but they were on discount on that particular day. Some people use One drop because you can have many many strips for a reasonable price but I do like the Contour next so I stuck with it. Sorry I cannot be helpful re: supplies.

  1. SLGS: You hold a dose for 7 days (unless a reduction is earned). You decrease the dose when the BG falls below 90. The aim of this protocol is to keep the cat in the 90-150 range. . You do a weekly curve with SLGS

Ok so yesterday she was in that range except for pmps … does she have to stay that way for a whole week before I can lower ? I will be doing a curve Sunday . I also got Moneys urine results, was wondering if I should post it and where ? Thanks @Diane Tyler's Mom for ur patience with me and all my questions ;)

Lantus dosing is based on nadirs - how low it takes a cat. She is seeing nadirs around 100 so you hold the dose.

The higher numbers you are seeing are her "bouncing" from lows that her body is unused to.

Bouncing is simply a natural reaction to what the cat's system perceives as a BG value that is "too low". "Too low" is relative. If a cat is used to BGs in the 200's, 300's, or higher for a long time, then even a BG that drops to 150 can trigger a "bounce". Bouncing can also be triggered if the blood glucose drops too low and/or too fast. The pancreas, then the liver, release glucogon, glycogen and counter-regulatory hormones. The end result is a dumping of "sugar" into the bloodstream to save the cat from going hypoglycemic from a perceived low. The action is often referred to as "liver panic" or "panicky liver".

As her body get used to lower numbers, the bouncing will reduce and she her cycles will become flatter.

It's fine to do the curve on Sunday. :cat:

Question away :p You decrease
the dose when the BG falls below 90 if Money drops below at any time following SLGS you decrease by 0.25 units

below 50, it's "take action" time, where we start giving him carbs to try to bring him back up quickly. If this happens Post for Help
Such as HELP is BG Below 50
