While those numbers are nice compared to where KR's been the past two weeks (without insulin), I'm concerned about how far she's going to drop over the next 3-4 hours. I realize ECID, but could someone with more experience give me an idea at what point (+4? +5? +6?) is best to test next? I absolutely have to get some sleep, but I'm not sure for how long to set the alarm for the next test. If you look at her SS you'll understand why I'm leery of not testing overnight.

Thank you,

Christine

Re: 10/6 Kitty Rabbit PMPS 269, +3 144 - help, please!

What I would do now, is give KR a teaspoon or two of low carb food. Often a bit of food will slow things down. I'd test at +4 to see if the food had the desired effect. I doubt you're going to need to be up late testing but let's see what the numbers say.

A small housekeeping detail... We link our condos (it's what we call our daily thread) together. By having the link to the previous day's information, it's much easier to go back to find things if you need to. Kitty Rabbit's condo/thread from 10/5

here, file this away for later .....

The way you make a fancy link is as follows:
• copy the location of the link from the top of your browser
• then, open a post and above the text box are button. Click on the button with URL inside;
• the following will be inserted at your cursor: .
• inside the first bracket, insert an = sign and then paste the location information of your link. It will look something like ;
• in between the two sets of brackets, type what you want to call the link. It will look something like this: [url=the http:// location of Reuben's condo from yesterday]Reuben's condo

Sienne,

Thanks for the instructions. I wouldn't have had any idea what to do without them.

+4 is 151. I know she ate recently, but I'm so tired I can't remember if it was before or after the +3 test. Hopefully it doesn't matter.

Wait until +6 for the next test?

One other item: KR has not peed all day (she hasn't pooped either, but that's normal). Given the amount she's been peeing up until this morning, this is making me very, very nervous. I saw her in the litter box once today but she didn't leave anything at all.

I add water to my cats' food. That said, I would keep an eye on the litter box. If you see KR straining to pee and nothing happens, it's a vet visit.

Also, keep in mind that as her numbers are coming back down, she may urinate less. Polyuria and polydipsia (excessive urination and drinking, respectively) are both symptoms of diabetes. KR may be both drinking and as a result, peeing less. Is her litter box use significantly less than before she was diagnosed.

If you want to set the alarm and get a +6, I think it would be fine. I know this is difficult. Once you have a better sense of KR's cycle, you'll know when it's safe to go to sleep. If you look at Gabby's SS, you can see that I pretty much know whether she's going to drop by +3 or +4.

Is she still drinking much water?

Once we started insulin, I never see my cat drink any water , she pees once a day and poops but it's always while we sleep.

I mix a little bit of water in her food especially with her b12 granules.

+6 is 139. I've got less than a full cycle of results to go by, but I think we're safe for the rest of the night.

She's drinking the same amount, and eating just fine. I did, however, just realized her left ear is very warm to the touch, and she wasn't lying on it when I woke her up. Without being able to describe it, I'm certain she's just not herself tonight. There's still nothing in the box.

Looks like I get to be the first person at the vet's in the morning. Oh, joy.

I think you're OK to go to sleep, as well.

In the future, can you put your test numbers in your subject line? It makes it easier for us to know that you've got info and whether we need to stop by to take a look.

Re: 10/6 Kitty Rabbit - update

After being completely abnormal all night (sleeping with me, rather than wandering the house), I woke this morning to a grouch who PEED! Looking at the amount of pee in that box, it appears she did it all at one time last night. I never heard her cry (and the litter box is one room over from my bedroom) so I'm guessing she was just exercising her right to be a difficult old lady.

As for this morning, AMPS was 392. And man, she did NOT want that blood test. Nor does she like her meals interrupted by pokes with syringes, but she'll get over both. I added two tablespoons of water to 1/4 can Friskies; she's apparently in food heaven.

The warmth in her ear is gone, too. There's no other signs of infection.

All in all, I think (I hope!) we dodged a vet visit today. Now, if I could just explain to her that beans need SLEEP.......

Thank you, Rhiannon and Sienne, for you help again.

Christine

That's a good WCR (Whole Cat Report). Sleeping with you, peeing, ear not warm, eating her food.

We usually start a new thread each day.

If you like, you can open up a new thread with 10/07 Kitty Rabbit AMPS 392 as the Subject Line,
and add what you just said about how she is doing better in the text, and don't forget to add the link to this thread from 10/06.

You're doing a great job.
