Izzy is still pretty constipated. I have been giving her miralax...close to 1/8th tsp 2x a day. I try to syringe feed her some to ensure she gets it and I put some in her food I leave out.

My question is: If I am using baby food to syringe feed and she eats 2-4 syringes full and the syringes hold about 15ccs. Should I be adding Taurine? If so how much?

I leave her FF out all day and she does snack on that too.

I think you need to ask your vet. Baby food is not nutritionally complete. It's missing taurine as well as other elements. The FF does make up for it but it really depends on how much of each Izzy is eating. If you give a taurine supplement, I don't know if there's an issue with a cat getting too much taurine vs. not enough.

If the constipation is an on-going issue, that's also something that your vet needs to address. It may be that there's a motility issue and some medication is needed. Zener has that issue and Anne and Liz give their kitty Reglan (I think).

Have you tried using pumpkin? That can help w/ constipation and can be a regular part of the diet. Hearts are a good source of taurine, you can get chicken hearts for the butcher. I freeze them in chunks and nuke briefly so they are still mostly raw. Both my cats love them. You can also get freeze dried hearts at http://www.justwheatfreedogtreats.com/poultrydogtreats. Tess and Emma like the duck or turkey better than the chicken.

She still eats her fancy feast so she is getting some of the vitamins etc from that. The syringe feeding is to guarentee her the miralax, rena food and binder. She doesn't have many teeth so she can't chew and the freeze dried food/treats usually get stuck in her throat since she can't really chew them. Even when I break them into little pieces she periodically gags, so I quit giving her them as treats. I add babyfood squash to her food too.

I'm just sending along poo vines and non-constipation vines to Izzy cat_pet_icon
I normally use the baby food squash when J.D. gets constipated. I have also used lactulose and that works well for J.D., but I would ask your vet about that.
