Drama-rama yesterday

Zener is doing fine this morning. Appy was a little iffy but a tummy massage by Annebean and he CPC'd his breffis. :-D :-D And sitting on the shores of the lagoon! Of course, this is the morning that Anne is going to Phoenix for a 2-day conference and I have to leave a bit early (+5). Let's see a nice surf, Z!

OT: The mouse has moved to under the stove so Tillie is beside herself, going back and forth between the kitchen and the woodpile.  We now have two live traps and I will be pulling out the stove to clean up. I'm sure there is enough food there to feed a mouse for a year. And the other drama yesterday was almost burning down the house! Yike! I was toasting a corn tortilla in the toaster oven and the tortilla ignited! Silly me, I opened the door and blew on it. Uh, that was not a good idea.   So I closed the door, unplugged it and took it outside. Phew! The kitchen was full of smoke and the smoke alarm didn't go off.

Thinking of ailing kitties and beans, Jamie and Jupiter, Dyana's J.D. (good test result), Dara's Bob, Melissa's Tarragon (just a couple of coughs last night), Sienne's sister and her cat Shiwa. Also thinking of grieving beans, we miss the GA kitties, too. Paws crossed for OTJ trials and for OTJ kitties to stay at the falls. You can do it! TGIF!!!

Re: 10/4 Zener AMPS 104

Wow, what a day you had yesterday! Good thing you didn't burn down the house. We once had a family of mice living in our oven in our house in Brooklyn. It had been a very hot summer and Edward hadn't baked bread in months. When he turned on the oven to bake in the fall, this horrible smell came out! We opened the oven door and found a mouse sitting in one of our cast-iron pots. We later found that they had built their nest in the insulation chamber on one side of the oven. We set live traps and took out 18 mice!! It took weeks to get the smell out. So, the moral of this story is: start early!!!

Have a great day, Liz. Safe trip, Anne,

Zener and Tilly: get busy!!

Hi Liz - glad Zener is feeling good this morning. Maybe I should try the tummy rub for Bob....

Sorry to hear about your corn tortilla! I guess you should have those smoke alarms checked.

Hope you have a great day!

Eeeekkkkk...the mice are taking over! It was probably responsible for the tortilla disaster!!!  Zener is looking awesome today...pretty low blues and greens! Hop on the surfboard and enjoy those nice numbers! TGIF, Anne & Liz!

I hope Zener surfs safely for you today. Wow on the corn tortilla. It sounds like you need to get the smoke alarms checked. Good luck catching the mouse. I'm sure it's driving Tillie crazy.

Great surf for the Z-man today!   Paws crossed his tummy is better now.

I just had to check for the latest mouse report. In addition to peanut butter, you should shred up some tissue inside. It'll look inviting like a nice comfy home. My cousin was married to someone doing his PhD in mouse research, so she got to help trap mice all the time and she helped us when we had one in our attic. Stoves are a great place for mice. In our family cabin, I remember a mouse under the wood stove, then it ran over the nose of our dog who was heating herself behind it. Amusing for most of us.

Zoikes on the tortilla! Thank goodness everything is safe.

Beautiful cycle Zener  Keep it to the low blues, please.

When I caught the mouse in the live trap a few years back, in the morning, I went to check the trap and it was closed, but they are touchy as that's how they catch the mice. I lifted the trap up and I didn't think anything was in there because it didn't seem any heavier. I opened the end and two little eyes looked back at me  . I took the mouse inside the trap outside and it wouldn't come out, even when I lifted the trap on end and shook it a little. I was worried about the mouse and wanted to make sure it was okay. We have a front door to my condo and then another front door outside of that one that is shared by my upstairs neighbor and myself. It forms a little square "mud room". I took the mouse and trap in there and with both doors closed sat down and opened the trap. The mousie hopped out and was covered with peanut butter. I watched her clean up and she seemed okay for release, but, J.D. was outside the outside door and Ginger was just inside the inside door. I was kind of trapped in that little mud room with the mouse with a cat on the other side of each door. Eventually, I opened the outside door slowly, and caught J.D. in time, to let the little mousie run to freedom. For a day or two, Ginger kept searching for it inside the house.

Things sure are exciting at the Casa de Zener lately! ;-) :o
Yay for a great surf today!
Boo for the mouse finding a new hiding spot (but Yay for the mouse deciding to stay in the house a little longer, closer to my 'expiration date' guess).
Boo for well-done tortilla (and toaster oven).
Yay for the flames staying IN said toasted toaster oven! nailbite_smile

Re: 10/4 Zener PMPS 117

Hi Liz,
Just a little background on Alice and MICE: Alice was very smart and I think she considered the mice in the camp her friends (they were large, white-footed mice, not house mice). She had several wild friends: a squirrel in Brooklyn (they actually played together); a porcupine who lived under the camp cabin who she would visit. She was remarkable in many ways and impressively musical. Once, after listening to the Met Opera broadcast, she sang the entire overture to Mozart's "The Marriage of Figaro", note-perfect (but without the rhythms--all the notes were the same length!). Her favorite composer was Wagner and she and Edward spent a lot of time listening to Wagner operas together. When she heard Wagner she would come from wherever she was in the house to sit in front of the speakers.

Since your mouse is undoubtedly a house mouse, Alice is probably enjoying the drama from the Bridge. Go Tillie!!

Nice PMPS Z Man! Good surfin' today!

Re: 10/4 Zener PMPS 117

I'm sort of cheering for the mouse. If for no other reason, just to read a "whole mouse report" for the next few days.

Re: 10/4 Zener PMPS 117

Very nice numbers for Zener today!

Do you have the traps baited with nuts? We had mice in our basement a few years ago...smart little buggers! We used cashews as bait (live traps as well), and they soon learned out to steal the nut without tripping the trap! We finally had to glue the nut down with peanut butter. It took a while, but DH eventually found the microscopic hole they were getting in and sealed it off...we've been mouse-free every since. The kitties have never been allowed in the basement, so they were none-the-wiser about all of it.

Re: 10/4 Zener PMPS 117

Wow, what excitement at Zener's house!! Hope the mouse is out, running free; the house is smoke free; and Mr. Z continues with these lovely numbers!!
Wow on the smoke detectors - scary :o

Jane

Very exciting day.
I'm very glad your house didn't burn down. :o :o :o
Maybe this happened to let you know that your smoke alarm isn't working! ;-)

Nice numbers for Zener today.
I hope his appy is better tomorrow.
