10/3 Racci AMPS-89,+3-70,+6-73,PMPS-93

Happy Fursday!

Racci's wonderful all green day yesterday did not continue into today unfortunately. She had some looser stools than normal yesterday so I decreased her miralax a little and she did not go last night or this morning yet so I hope it didn't make her constipated. It's hard to believe that small amount could make that much of a difference but........ I guess we'll see when she finally goes. Sometimes it's not until her next test & meal.

Other than that, Racci is having a good day today and has shown all other p's. She was playing with her toy basket this morning and dumped it on its side so she could use it as a pillow - very cute. All her little toys were spread all over the rug.

Jane & Ann, sorry I missed your notes last night. I fell asleep before you posted. It was a great day yesterday, thanks! Maybe Racci will turn around again with this test coming up and do well for the rest of the day.

I hope all the other LL furbabies are doing well today and that poor little Tarragon heals quickly. Have a great day!

Hugs,
Melanie & Racci

Re: 10/4 Racci AMPS-143

Nice start to the cycle for Racci. Something is up in LL lately, poor poo performance is practically pervasive. Paws crossed for better poo soon!

Re: 10/4 Racci AMPS-143

oooh. that number again. We had that for a pmps last night. our highest number in a very long time.

Poo vines for Racci.
Lots of kitties off kilter today.
I can see where that Miralax can be very hard to fine tune.
Hope Racci has better numbers here as the cycle progresses today.

Happy Fursday!

Re: 10/4 Racci AMPS-143,+3-124,

Racci playing with her toy basket, what could be better? Hope you get the LB situation fine tuned soon, but at least it`s about fine tuning now, right? Thanks for your visit yesterday, we always love seeing you in our condo! Reuben sends Racci a snuzzle! cat_pet_icon

Re: 10/4 Racci AMPS-143,+3-124,

Hi Anne,
I noticed that too, that a lot of kitties seem to be having poo issues lately. I'm pretty sure that's why Racci is higher today. She's very sensitive to that. Her bg always goes up if she doesn't poo. Maybe the weird weather is causing everyone's poo to be off. One day it's warm, the next cool, then back to warm! Thanks!

Hi Rhiannon,
Yes, Miralax is a little hard to fine tune for some of them. Some cats are really sensitive to different amounts. Racci usually takes 1/4 tsp bid so instead of making it full, I shaved the measurement a little and obviously that was enough to make her constipated or maybe since she went so many times yesterday, she has nothing stored up?
Based on Racci's +3, I guess this will not be a green cycle. Oh well, at least she had a perfect day yesterday. It means there's hope and she's getting back her usual BG's slowly. Thanks!

Re: 10/4 Racci AMPS-143,+3-124,+6-115

Racci made her poop today after her +6, which is very late for her, and her appetite has been off today as well.

I'm a little upset without knowing if I should be or not. I recieved Racci's test results and the items that were high are the:

amylase-1327 (100-1200)
lipase - 308 (0-205)
Platelet count says 98 low (200-500) It was given minimum due to clumping.
Differential -Absolute (highlighted in bold as if it's off but nothing to compare it to)

Amylase and lipase are the panacreas or other bowel/stomach problems from what I can tell and could be pancreatitis or a damaged pancreas or maybe something to do with her chronic constipation? The platelets scare me and make me think of cancer. I'll have to call the vet tomorrow but wondering if anyone knows anything about any of these?

Re: 10/4 Racci AMPS-143,+3-124,+6-115, Test Result??s

Amylase and lipase values are pretty much irrelevant in cats. The tests are considered to be unreliable in cats. They used to be considered useful in diagnosing pancreatitis but they are now outdated. The values are more meaningful in dogs. In cats, not so much.

The platelet count is artificially low due to clumping. If the platelets clump, the machine analyzing the sample can't give an adequate estimate.

Re: 10/4 Racci AMPS-143,+3-124,+6-115, Test Result??s

Hi, I panicked when I saw low platelets on Max's results, too. My vet's lab takes a look at the platelets under a microscope when the number the machine spits out is low. If they are clumped, the tech notes that, and the vet then knows that this number is not reliable and that the platelet counts may not be that low. I understood from my vet that unless there is a reason to be concerned about platelets, they don't try to get a better sample.

Hope Racci poos soon!

Re: 10/4 Racci AMPS-143,+3-124,+6-115, Test Result??s

Thank you Dale & Sienne! You made me feel much better! The tech told me that the high values were something they don't look at and I couldnj't imagine what she meant. How could you discount something like that? Now I understand why, Sienne.

I imagine even though she didn't refer to the platelets that she meant those too because it also says about the platelets: Platelets EST - Adequate. Which I guessed to mean estimated? which would make sense with what you said Dale.

Thank you both so much!!!! I can go back to being happy over the results of her tests.

Re: 10/4 Racci AMPS-143,+3-124,+6-115, Test Result??s

I think we all need a pocket size Sienne to take with us to the vet and whisper in our ear.
We'd all feel so much more confident.

Glad to hear it's back to all good!!

Re: 10/4 Racci AMPS-143,+3-124,+6-115, Test Result??s

Pocket Sienne!  Sounds like you have nothing to worry about, and that's great!

Re: 10/4 Racci AMPS-143,+3-124,+6-115, Test Result??s

I definitely have less to worry about. Yes, a pocket Sienne would sure come in handy!!
I still wonder though if anything is wrong with her pancreas to have the values so screwed up. They must have those values for cats for something. I probably still need to find out what could be the significance. I read online in one spot though that they don't worry until they're 7-8x more than normal so who knows.

Re: 10/4 Racci AMPS-143,+3-124,+6-115, Test Result??s

Melanie -- I think it really does mean "adequate." I can't remember why I think that, but the vet and I talked about it. Poor guy, he's probably glad he doesn't have a lot of pet owners like me! ;-) He's very good-natured about it, and doesn't take offense that I'm always asking questions. He did say that the reason he doesn't hand out test results to every owner as a policy is because he would spend all day addressing unwarranted concerns. I know the feeling sometimes. Ha ha!

Re: 10/4 Racci AMPS-143,+3-124,+6-115, Test Result??s

That's reasonable about the platelets. I can undeerstand where he's coming from too.
