Furball was happy and purry this morning. Her numbers make me wonder how low she went yesterday while I was at work. I hope she slides down and surfs safely today.

Sending prayers for Krystina and Nelli (@Krystina & Nelli) and @JoyBee&Ravan and Peggy Sue and @Susan&Felix and @AliceMeowliss&Cassandra and Alice and @J.J. and Phoebe Squeak's DH's recovery and @Olive & Paula and DH and @Pamela & Amethyst and @LizzieInTexas and family and Jamie and Andy (@Bellasmom) and @Suzanne Burton and Tucker and Lyane's Sister-in-Law (@Ti-Mousse) and Dan and Luna (@For_Luna) and @Sarah and Blaze and @Ella & Rusty & Stu(GA) for Ella's pneumonia and @Sue and Luci.

Oh my goodness Furball!
Carla, I'm really happy you'll be there starting tonight so you can figure out what Furball is doing while you're at work. :bighug::bighug::bighug:

Morning Carla, I hope Furball comes back down into nice numbers soon, those yucky highs are no fun. I had been poking around again in older posts recently, and I found some words of wisdom from Jill...I know it's not quite the same as if she were here to advise you directly.

"About your shooting technique...
I only ask because there was a point when Alex's numbers were a little higher than I liked. After injecting insulin for several years, it dawned on me that my technique was off. I had gotten a little sloppy and wasn't quite getting the injection into the subcutaneous layer. As soon as I made the correction, Alex's numbers went right back to where I wanted them. "

Of course you and I both know there are so many variables, but might be something to think about. Have a great day :)

Thanks Christie. I've been wondering about that. A couple of her shots lately have seemed off, including last night.

Yoshi is high today too. Maybe I’m not getting in the layer? What does this mean? How do we make sure we are doing it?

Sure hope Furball comes back down!

Just popped into Yoshi's condo as well, but since you asked here, I thought I would mention that you might see some useful info here:

I had gathered some links on tips for testing and shooting from @Marje and Gracie (see post #12), as well as some pics of the skin layer, and sub cutaneous tissue then underneath is where the muscle is. The question has come up often enough here about what affects insulin absorption, and of course every cat is different in how they metabolize insulin, so I guess my suggestion would be that as we get a better understanding how our cat usually responds to insulin (ie. onset/nadir/duration, as well as how quickly your cat usually clears bounces), and when things don't seem to line up with what we know of our cat, then often it's worth looking at other possible reasons.

These are certainly not Furball numbers. I would be surprised if she went so low as to cause these high numbers. Although things can change, she’s been in the 50s without a bounce like this.

Have you had her checked out lately at the vet?

Alot of things can affect insulin absorption including whether the shot goes into the correct spot subq. However, Carla is an extremely experienced shooter and so I would think her technique is impeccable. It’s possible there could be a little build up of fat tissue in areas where repeated shooting might have occurred since Furball has been diabetic a long time.

When I see a cat like Furball start having high numbers like this, I would be considering a vet visit just to check everything out.

Sorry @carfurby along with possible health reasons for the high numbers, I had thought to make what I felt might be something else to consider, I wasn't suggesting anything more than that.

I got to come home from work early today and got the 10.25 test.

@Christie & Maverick You don't need to apologize. A couple of her shots have seem strange lately and I've been fighting air in my syringes again. One day it looked like I had a good dose, but thought I'd better check. When I pushed the plunger in the whole dose was air and I couldn't tell there was no insulin since it wasn't just an air bubble.

@Marje and Gracie I have not had her at the vet lately. Her polyp ear is bothering her and that could affect her numbers.

Sending vines. It is possible if You are getting air in there and the dose is getting reduced by a lot to see these numbers.
