WCR Powder's P's in place. Although he is up & around I can see the high BGs taking their toll on him. One of the signs he has with elevated glucose is watery eyes. This morning his eyes are runny and goopy. They haven't been this way for a long time. He's not as purry.
I was thinking about the BGs and how they coinside with stopping the Clavamox. I'm thinking that he may need more AB's for his gingivitis. Other possibility is UTI but last urine done 10/5 was normal except for +1 glucose. I'll call vet today.
If I get an appt today I'll have them do a urine but I need opinions on the urine aspiration through the abdomen. It seems invasive to me and I have been able to get clean urines. Is it supposed to be better or just owners have difficulty getting them?
Hope all have a good day in LL and kitties and beans under the weather turn the corner and feel better.

Re: 10/30AMPSPowder409

Hi Kathy....I think it is good that you will be bringing him in. Cystocentesis is the most accurate, cleanest way of obtaining a urine sample and many people recommend having a C & S done on the sample... Culture & Sensitivity test....my vet charged $107 I think for that to be done. If an infection is present, the culture and sensitivity test will show what type of bacteria is present and allow the vet to treat it with specific antibiotics.

Some people get a sample in a sterile container at home, but the cysto is really the most reliable, if the kitty's bladder is not completely empty. My vet just did that automatically and never suggested that I get a sample from home. I know that some people have problems with the kitty urinating before they have the chance to do the cysto. So if you can get a sample at home and you are comfortable with that, then do that and see what your vet suggests. If there is bacteria present, there might be a question as to whether the collection method contaminated the sample itself. I would discuss this with the vet.

Does he have any symptoms of anything?
Will you have blood work done as well? That will show if there is an infection present too and the teeth/gums might be involved since you just had the dental. Let us know what the vet says Kathy.....

Vet called back. Wants to give him 2 more weeks of Clavamox because sudden BG rise when it ended. If that doesn't work he wants to give Baytril a go even though Powder hated it. Now I have pill pockets ;-)

Pat no specific symptoms just not as much spunk and being too accommodating. He's eating and drinking using litter box and begging for food. He did have pretty bad gingivitis so vet thinks maybe he just needs more time on an antibiotic.
Thanks Pat about the cystocentesis info Pat.

Oh..that sounds good. Are you giving Powder Fortiflora or another kind of probiotic?
I forget if we talked about that...my brain is like jello...

Oh...wow...that is quite a drop...are you feeding him something now Kathy?

Re: 10/30AMPSPowder409+1 353+1+2 150

Anitbiotics wipe out all bacteria Kathy....so we replenish the friendly bacteria with a probiotic. Given a few hours after the ABs, it can be sprinked on the food and many kitties enjoy the taste. I cannot find Fortiflora locally, so I order it online.
I looked back as far as I could in your links but couldn't find any discussions about it....it might be good if you can look into getting some, ok? http://www.amazon.com/FortiFlora-FELINE ... B00164YL22
You might find it elsewhere, but I have just ordered it from Amazon in the past.

Feed him a little now and watch him this morning , okay?

Yes Pat I gave him more breffis he's up a little now. He objected when I got him for his test so that's a good sign  I give Powder and the pooches Aniimal Essentials Plant Enzymes and Probiotics. The holistic vet that does acupuncture etc recommends this in her practice. The amt is 1/4 tsp a day for cats so I divide it and give it twice a day.

There's a glitch in trying to get this posted. Keeps trying to load but won't post so sorry it took so long to respond

There is virtually no way you can collect a sterile urine sample at home. Even if you can convince Powder to "pee in the cup," there is still a high probability that the area of the cat or surrounding fur has bacteria that can contaminate the sample. If you don't use a sterile cup, then that's another source of contamination. The bigger issue is that you need a culture & sensitivity (C & S). Otherwise, you have no idea which AB is appropriate to treat the bacteria present -- or even if bacteria are present. Without a C & S, you run the risk of causing AB resistance. Frankly, why run the risk of putting Powder on the wrong AB? You end up putting him on a trial of one AB, it doesn't work and you've then delayed treatment. If you get the C & S, the appropriate AB is selected at the outset. Otherwise, you're throwing mud against the wall and hoping that something sticks. Dr. Lisa has posted about how not getting a C & S is causing all sorts of problems. You may be able to find her posts on the Health board.

The puter gremlin has been at play today again causing extra long response times to trying to post a message cat(2)_steam So when Powder decided I needed something to do he gave me a big surprise at +5. :o With the trouble I had been having all morning I focused on the feeding the boy and testing and repeating not wanting him to bounce too high so I wanted to avoid syrup but I had it out ready to go. I noticed he was shivering a little at +5.50 so added a dental treat because he loves them so. I could only wait 10 mins. nailbite_smile to test again and was relieved to see another increase . Once I saw the 140 I figured it was safe to get his medicine. Man was I right  Cute video of what Powder did while I was away. http://www.stupidvideos.com/video/anima ... gg/#298202

Holy Cow! What a drop today! I have no advice on how to stop the bounce - almost all our kitties have bungee cords. Before you switch to Baytril, you might talk to the vet about Zenequin. Blackie took it several times for UTI's with no tummy upset.

Cute video! It's been a long time since we've had kittens. I forgot how they jump.

Re: 10/30PMPSPowder357+2.5 246

OOPS that was some typo  100 points is a big difference. The boy is still picking at his food even his favorite. Will keep checking.

I added to this post so I didn't bump it up. It's +6 now and he ate some LC + MC with gusto at +5 so I think he feels a little better. This has been really nice to see him in blues and greens most of the day :-D cat_pet_icon I test as long as I can. Ni Ni
