Finally! Back to the Lagoon - Very Interesting Meter Comparison day!

238 Prime
213 Confirm

Since we're going to transition away from the Relion Confirm (Walmart is discontinuing the meter and strips) I thought it would be a good time to do some shopping and comparisons. About this time last year I was very upset and raced off to Walmart with tears in my eyes to purchase 'home testing supplies'. I had no idea what I was doing or which test kit to purchase - some weren't even on the shelf - so I just bought what was there...now in a calmer state of mind and I'm trying the Relion Prime and the Advocate Pet Meter along with our Relion Confirm (the one we've been using all along).

Tested with both meters until she got into the lagoon - surprisingly late in the day - guess she decided to move her nadir to the afternoon! :D Then added the Pet Meter. I'm hoping she'll go back to the lagoon today so I can get some more comparisons.

So time and testing shall tell the story. We're learning...

I hope Luci slides down and surfs for you today. Good luck with your meters.
Thanks Carla! I'm very pleased with the results I'm seeing so far - at least there are standard differences - like the Prime has read higher every time vs the Confirm (which I think is good)...I'm aware that sometimes the meters can read high one time and low the next - that would be confusing - but I'm looking at averages...so hopefully this trend between the meters will continue...fingers and paws crossed for a good day for testing Miss Luci :) Hoping that Furball is having a good day too :)

I use both the Micro and the Prime - have been for about 3 years. I always find the 2 are within about 20 points or less of each other. I use the Micro when it's cold and his ears don't bleed well, use the Prime when his ears are warm and bleed easily. I PREFER the Micro due to the small blood required and the speed of the sip. I tend to be shaky at times, the slow sip of the Prime sometimes causes me to move the strip away from the drop too quickly by accident causing an error.

Micro and the Prime
Is that the Relion Micro - is it one of the 'Prime' meters? I was at Walmart today - none of the 'Confirm' of any kind are out anymore...so I looked at their newest brand - the picture on the box of strips looks like it's got a really tiny strip - the area that sips up the drop of blood - I'm curious about that one - but I'm waiting on the OneDrop - hoping to see what their strip-sipper thing looks like and if it takes the small drop like the Relion Confirm did...I may buy one of the Walmart new ones (I can't remember the name)..but they had a lot of new product out there - just like them to discontinue the one I liked/used and get all new something else - to make me buy all new stuff...

But now with my comparisons I'm finding pretty much only on the lower numbers - where it counts the most - to be the most interesting data....

I'll continue with my dual testing - but I'm not in love with the Prime because of the amount of blood required (sometimes takes an extra poke and a squeeze to get that bigger drop)...with the Confirm it didn't matter how small the poke was, there was usually enough...

I'll keep posting. Thanks for your feedback! :)

The ReliOn 'Micro' is the sister meter of the 'Confirm' - strips say fits 'Confirm/Micro'. ReliOn Prime is another meter. Both of those are being discontinued by Walmart BUT the company that makes the strips for the Confirm/Micro sells the same motherboard meter as the Confirm and aren't stopping production. Those can still be ordered from ADW (American Diabetes Warehouse). Their Confirm/Micro equivalent meter is called the 'Glucocard 01'.

The Prime isn't my favorite by far...I too want that small, quick sip. I test Dakota a lot as he has lots of other things happening too...
