I was contemplating using some R yesterday (viewtopic.php?f=9&t=105610) but with a +5 number like this one, I'm thinking the Lantus is doing the trick after all
He eats a bit when I give him food, but it's not much. We haven't worked through a small DM can yet since yesterday. Maybe 1/2 to 3/4 since last night.
Lots of cats don't like DM. J.D. ate most of a case eventually, but he was an exception. Have you tried any low carb Fancy Feast or Friskies or one of the other low carb canned foods?
He was apparently eating the DM at the vet, that is why I bought it. I have tons of Friskies and other varieties as well. Just thought he eats this one, so I'll go with it. I think it's more of an appetite thing than the flavour. Since he eats some, instead of snubbing it completely like he does with most foods.
As long as he eats it, stick with it. From a "feline diabetes" standpoint, it's fine, and low carb.
How much does he weigh? A good ballpark number for calories per day is 20 calories, per pound of ideal weight, per day. A small can of DM is just under 200 calories. Diabetics usually need "more" rather than less per day, but 20 is a good estimate.
He's 12.5 pounds. Which is skinny for him (can feel his bones on his back) since he is part maine coon. I will have barely managed to get him to eat a full can in the past 24 hours. Hopefully tomorrow he'll eat more.
His PMPS is high again, but his behaviour is pretty normal. Greeted me at the door and asked for his supper.
