Last night was the first night her BG lowered at all in the evening to 375.
And thoughout the night, her BG only went up 25 points from that time to 400.

Hi there

when you have a moment could you post Ginger's feeding schedule?
Like when she eats, how much etc...

And one other question, have you been checking for ketones as well?

Re: 10/3 Ginger AMPS 400

How's the food transition going?

We also try to get a read on the 5 Ps (purring, preening, playing, peeing, pooping) as part of a Whole Cat Report (WCR). Ginger is more than just her numbers!

Re: 10/3 Ginger AMPS 400

5am & 5pm I test, feed, shoot

So 2x a day she gets the following.
First 1 tablespoon Special Kitty canned (she rarely eats it all.)
3/4 cup EVO dry is put in bowl (for 3 cats) to pick on. So each cat gets approx 1/4 cup of the dry.

The vet tested her urine a week ago. No ketones present, PH was negative. She ran another test which was fine too.

I need to buy the test strips.
How often should her urine be tested?

She is drinking alot of water, so peeing alot. She is following me around the house more again and purring when I pet her.

Re: 10/3 Ginger AMPS 400

Ketones testing at least once a day, especially with higher numbers.
If there is a history of ketones, IMHO definitely at least once a day. And also a good idea to make the notes on your spreadsheet, so we don't ask you daily.

Thanks for the info on the food, can you kinda post it in +hours , like AMPS she gets breakfast, then example, +3 she gets a little kibble, +5 she gets a little wet food....etc, etc...
sorry to be a nerd here, I'm just curious and it's good info for others who are following you to know when exactly she eats and what she eats in what + hours thru the cycles. Make sense?

Ginger always ate dry food until this current transistion to canned.
All 3 cats nibble all day long on that 3/4 cup EVO dry in the bowl until its gone. Usually gone by +8
So nothing at +9, +10, +11.
Same with PM feeding.

Re: 10/3 Ginger AMPS 400, +6 352

To do the Ketone testing, I have put her in the bathroom by herself with a bowl of water and an empty litter box with about a tablespoon of litter for the "smell"
It sometimes takes hours before she will go into the box.
The vet said I should not have used the litter at all. But she wont go into the box otherwise. (except to lay down)
The vet was able to extract the litter molecules out, so got a good test done.

What can be used instead of litter, so the urine will not turn the wrong color?

Re: 10/3 Ginger AMPS 400, +6 352 (new question added)

You can do it a few different ways. If you want to use a clean litter box and put something in there that won't react with the urine, you can use clean aquarium gravel. You may be able to use a little litter, take a little bit of the litter and put water on it and then test with the ketostix...if it is negative, it is probably not going to affect the test.

Other ideas....use the normal litter box and litter, put a piece of saran wrap in the area she usually pees, tuck the corners in...you may be able to get a puddle in there to test from. Otherwise, if she will pee with you in the room, stick a ladle under her when she goes, test from that, or just put the strip into her urine stream.

Re: 10/3 Ginger AMPS 400, +6 352 (new question added)

Try some aquarium gravel or anything non absorbent. There are litter boxes made that use non absorbent litter and the urine is collected in a tray underneath. One is available through the feline diabetes home page.

Re: 10/3 Ginger AMPS 400, +6 352 (new question added)

I do the same thing as Laurie - I sorta stretch and sort lay plastic wrap over the litter and stick it to the sides. shadow doesn't even see it, squats over it, the pee puddles up on the plastic and I can dipstick it. works pretty good for us, even if it is a little low tech. :-D

Re: 10/3 Ginger PMPS 432

I dont know about the plastic wrap option for Ginger.
She would step on the plastic going in and out of the box. She pees right at the front of the box, then turns around to get out. At least she does with the covered box we use for all 3 cats. (one cat thinks he needs to dig to china, so the covered box is necessary. lol) That is probably because he was outside on his own for who knows how long before I took him in.

I will probably try a little of the aquarium gravel. Even a tbls of litter makes the urine a different color which might be a problem with the test strips.
Thanks for the suggestions.

Re: 10/3 Ginger AMPS 400, PMPS 432

Actually, I have never used any of the tricks...I'm very lucky, Tinkles has no privacy issues, so I just stick the strip in his urine stream! He totally ignores me.
