So, a plan is in place to get more PM numbers on Missy. I will do the best I can with it and get some info that will allow me to see what she is doing at night. I will also make sure she has food for the PM hours.
Yesterday my meter kept erroring out every time I tried to check her during the day, so I took it as a sign we both needed to recharge our batteries. I did some 'dirt therapy' out in the yard and I got it working eventually.
This is day 3 of the increase from 4.5 to 4.75. (5th cycle this am). I think that she is responding well, based on her behavior. She is more active, seems to be drinking less, is VERY alert this morning and the best thing of all, was yesterday she tracked and whacked her brother!!!!! :o She usually avoids him like the plague and rarely jumps HIM. That was worth all the angst I went through the last week and a half with her just to see that!
Today I will get more numbers, now that my meter is working....and will be planning on some PM numbers as well. I am back on board.
Thanks to you all for your advice and concern for my girl. :thumbup

Great news, Mares! It's so heartwarming when they are obviously feeling better. And payback time is overdue!

Hi guys .. oh yes, when see behavior like that we forget all the past frustrations, don't we? Hope you guys have a great day!

Re: 10/27 MISSY AMPS 280 ATrak

all great news, mares! you sound like you're feeling better too. nothing like a little dirt therapy to help.

Hey Mares, It's really difficult for you to leave food out over night coz Phoenix might eat it right? Not sure how you get around that (put name tag on the plate!!!) . I leave LBs night food on one of those cold packs for sprains etc. I freeze it and then put the food on it over night. I also cover it with a saucer which LB removes because he's a kitty genius. (from my side) I was also thinking that when you do the ear test on Missy, you should shut the door on Phoenix so he doesn't see the attention she's getting. Would that work or would it make him more suspicious/fretful? BTW LB's numbers way down yesterday and then this morning I have a big full blown bounce. Two steps forward and one step backwards!! A'gh!

Re: 10/27 MISSY AMPS 280 ATrak

Hi Anyname!
Yeah, somehow I don't think the name tags are going to work. :-D The visual does put a smile on my face, though. I can just see them, with their little napkins and name tags, gobbling away. Wish it were so, the little pigs! They didn't get to 20 + pounds by having good table manners.

I don't know how I can keep him away when I test. He has gotten wise to the microwave as well. I just tested her and he was outside on the deck and he like to have scratched a hole through the glass in the door! That night I slept on the couch, he heard the microwave and came bounding down from upstairs. They don't 'do' closed doors. ;-) oh well, we will work it out!!

I like the cold pack idea....will do that tonight.

I am so happy to hear LBs numbers were down. Yay! Also sorry about the bounce. I know the feeling  it IS a roller coaster ride, isn't it?

How are his allergies doing? Hope he's feeling better, poor guy!

That's great to hear how well Missy is responding, and the whacking made me laugh. I see your problem with the overnight food, and uh the name tag thing with Phoenix. let me know how that works out  Good luck with the pm checks. I had a hard time with it in the beginning, too. I finally had to make my morning shot so earky in order for me to stay up and get night time checks, if that makes sense.

Re: 10/27 MISSY AMPS 280 ATrak

Hi Mares!! What a great report today. So glad you will be able to get more numbers on Missy and that she is feeling like a whackathon!! That's too funny!!

I am not able to leave food out for Gracie....the kitten, Tobey, will eat it so I have to get up and feed her during the night if need be. We're used to it. Tobey also likes to be present during Gracie's tests but he's just a silent observer  I think he's hoping one of the chicken treats will make it into his mouth.

Glad you got some dirt therapy....always helps the soul! You're doing great!!! :-D :-D Missy is better....all is good!

Anne,
That may be a great thought! One way or the other, it sounds like I will be hearing an alarm clock (oh, I thought I gave them up when I retired, but I guess Miss had other plans for me  ) I might have to mull that over....

Re: 10/27 MISSY AMPS 280 ATrak

Marjorie,
Wish that Phoenix was a 'silent' observer! I sprinkle chicken dust on his food to get him away from us, but he figured out he could just lick it off quickly and be back with us......and get more goodies  cracks me up how fast they learn to work you. And they are both thieves!! If I leave the lid off the container, they sneak over and do a 'dine and dash'.
Just gotta love 'em !

Re: 10/27 MISSY AMPS 280 ATrak

How funny on Missy and Phoenix!!!! He's a smart boy!!

Oh yeah....didn't anyone tell you that you have to learn how to be a LL zombie from lack of sleep?

Marje,
How do you do it with a 5 year old, too???!!! At least I only have myself to consider...DH can pretty much sleep through anything. I am getting the zombie thing down.
Can I ask why you switched to Levimir? My vet was discussing maybe switching Missy, but not too any great extent, yet.
Thanks.
