Well, it's official...China's URI now has a bacterial element to it too, so we're on AB's for the next week! She's also lost .9lb since she was there on 10/15 which I think is too fast.. She was 17.7lb on 10/15 and only 16.8 today...that's almost a pound in 11 days

The vet took a sample from her nose to look at under the microscope (China was NOT amused!!) and confirmed the bacteria but said it seems to be only in her head at this time....her lungs sound clear

She got a shot of Baytril and sent home more Baytril for the next 8 days...1/2 of a 68mg tablet once a day...what worries me though is despite me reminding the vet that she was diabetic and not wanting anything with sugar, I noticed when I got home that what she sent was a "flavored" type so I don't know if it has sugar in it or what they "flavor" it with (and so far, Dr. Google isn't telling me anything but the "active" ingredient)

Needless to say her BG is still high....was a little better this morning but I won't be surprised if she's over 300 again at PMPS

I'm also supposed to start the civvies on Chlor Trimeton and if they start having a cloudy or yellow/green discharge they'll require AB too

Let the fun begin!!

Oh Poor China! So glad you got her in and that the diagnosis was quick- hopefully now she can start healing:) And hoping your other babies don't have it .
Vines to you all!

I'm glad you got some meds for China. I hope it helps her get better soon. Hopefully the civvies don't need an the AB. Sending prayers. :bighug:

Chris - Glad you got a clear diagnosis. Hope China does well on her meds and the civies won't need further treatment. Healing thoughts and prayers going your way. Ouch, with the nose, not fun mom! Kathe and Coral

OK China, no drastic weight loss please. Hope you feel better after being poked and prodded today by the vet - they do mean well even if they are pushy!

So glad you got her in. Sooner treated; sooner cleared. Wish I knew about the Baytril. Have used it plenty, but never with Polly. Guess you'll have to let her numbers be your guide.

Now, Miss China. Make all your adoring fans happy: gain some weight!

Lots of vines; lots of hugs.

Marilyn

Well shoot...now one of the civvies isn't eating at all!!

Thought it was a little funny when lunch was served and he was nowhere to be found, but when the dinner bell rang, he didn't even come check it out. Got the Chlor Trimeton into him (he's never been pilled before so I think I surprised him...no telling what will happen when he knows it's coming) and was hoping that might trigger his appetite, but so far, no go :(

I'm happy to see China in "better" numbers tonight....whether it's from the dosecrease kicking in or the AB doesn't matter right now...at least it's a more acceptable number (of course it could be the hot tuna toddies or the spicy pumpkin niptini's at the Full Moon party too!)

Still no joy on the one civvie eating even a little....but #2 is still eating well

Can't tell if mine is bouncing or doing her normal high at night. Glad to see China coming down a tad.
Sending appy vines to the one who isn't eating.

Baytril is supposed to taste really bad. I only got one dose of liquid Baytril down punkin and he walked around vomiting and foaming at the mouth. It's probably why they gave it to you flavored.

I hope your crew feels better soon!

I'm glad I didn't take the liquid then! She asked if I wanted liquid or pills

These are tablets (and huge...especially considering China has a small head/throat) and look kind of like the flavored heartworm tabs they use in dogs (still can't find what they are flavored WITH though)

Luckily, I can cut the half tab into fourths, but it's still going to be a trick to get it down her...and of course if I cut them in half, it means pilling her twice!

That's what I use gelcaps for. I cut the pills down to fit in one (or two). They are much easier to get down and the cat doesn't taste anything.

Sending lots of healing vines for China, Cheaser and Cleocatra and :bighug: for the worried bean. Kitties, eat yer fuds!

I too use gel caps and wouldn't ever be without them. If you decide to try them get size 3. I used to give baytril to my first cat and since she was a good eater could powder it and put it in her food so the pills must not be too bad tasting. They weren't flavored. I hope nobody else gets this bug. Vines for all of you Chris.

Chlor Trimeton ??? My vet never suggested anything other than AB's to prevent secondary infection. SO ticked that I could have them all some of this and maybe that would have helped them

The Chlor Trimeton is an antihistamine....it's used to help with the symptoms of the cold, like sneezing, drippy noses and runny eyes, but since China was at the vet yesterday and it was confirmed that she had a secondary infection, she was also started on AB's

I don't jump right in and give AB unless I know for a fact that there's a bacteria to kill...most colds are viruses and AB do nothing to help a virus

Norman who is my diabetic is starting with the licking his nose..if he starts blowing the bubbles out the nose then he can have the Chlor Trimeton ? He is not wanting to eat , he is doing the same thing the previous 3 did prior to him...this is going to be fun if he refuses food cause no insulin
