Hello LL folks,

Yesterday's condo.

Angie had a good day today - she's seemed well enough anyway. We've had a few wild spring thunder storms over the last couple of days. Angie decided she was going out this morning while the wind was howling and the rain coming in sideways under the porch and hitting the door. She made it as far as the sodden door mat and wisely (and briskly) changed her mind!

I'm very confused about her spreadsheet. Last night she started low at her pmps and then went up from there. This morning she was quite high at amps and I now wonder if she went down again last night after I stopped testing. I stopped because she was going up but isn't a nadir supposed to be in the middle of the cycle, not a shot time? Should I have kept testing last night? Would someone mind looking at her spreadsheet (again) and letting me know what you think? I'm very rarely catching her coming up again but I feel so sleep deprived, even with sleeping during the day after testing and at night after testing. I don't think I can do much more every day so I want to be better at knowing when it's most important.

I don't know why I have such a hard time getting it. Diabetes has made me feel more dense than any thing else I've tried to learn about!

Thanks so much for all your on-going help.

Grace

Hi Grace ~O) ~O) ~O)

I had to smile at the thought of Angie wanting to go out in all that wet. It sounds like here. Mannie always did too.

For whatever reason I cannot open the 2014 SS, no clue why, as I can open the 2013 one. Perplexing! Last night sounds like maybe Angie was in bounce mode, due to the lower numbers. Guessing here as I cant see the SS. Sometimes when they do this you just don't see that expected low at what we believe to be their nadir. I would have done what you did last night, test the usual test times, and once I saw up was up I would not have tested further. I on a normal night would test at PS, +2, +4 or +5. Then be done until +11. This plan worked for me. I liked the +11, as I could compare that to the PS number and know if we were heading up, or heading down at the time of injection. it was a "be aware" test for me, as Mannie could be such a diver, drop low fast, and I wanted to know if the +11 compared to PS indicated that was his plan. Nadirs can shift, usually they are at about +6, but no guarantees n that, and well, every cat is different.

These were the tests that I viewed were necessary for Mannie. It was the general plan, but I would modify it if I saw him heading down.
+11
PS
+2 (and a +1, IF the +11 was lower than PS, or if i was shooting a green number)
+4 (sometimes a +5 depending on my schedule) I'd do this test to see what path he was on: dropping, steady or on the rise. normally I didn't need any more tests

I hope this helps. It is what worked for me, and allowed me to get the sleep I needed. FD is hard... it always seemed that our kitties are changing how they deal with it too. I'd get things on a plan for Mannie, and then he'd change things, shift his nadir, etc. It is always such a guessing game. we do what we can to keep them safe, and help them deal with it all. I think you are doing great with Angie.

ETA The SS finally opened up for me. YAY! I suspect that she was on the rise in the 10/26 pm cycle due to the low greens at PS, and kept rising, giving you also that rather high amps on 10/27. The am cycle of 10/27 looks fairly normal to me, headed down and then back up at pmps, with a fairly normal nadir. the numbers were up enough that I don't see any concern for further testing during that PM cycle. the +2 is down from pmps however, and with that in mind I probably would have done a +4.

Just my opinion, but hope it helps.

Hi Grace - I think you are doing a great job with the testing. :YMHUG: Like Michelle, I suspect the evening of the 26th she started bouncing to that lovely stretch of green she'd had during the day. I too would have stopped testing that night when you did. Sometimes bounces can be a little bit delayed from the low event (or at least low compared to what Angie is used to). The 27th looks like a nice touchdown to blue again, and maybe a Lantus double dip at the end of the day, where the preshot is lower than the +10 or +11, but still higher than the nadir. Several cats here do the double dip.

Nadir times can and do vary, some cats (especially those named Neko) like to shoot the 12 sided dice before a cycle and see what hour the nadir will land on. Seriously though, the nadirs are often later when you get a bounce breaking cycle like you did on the 26th. When Neko was on Lantus, I caught her nadir at +13 a couple of times. Neko's Lantus nadir was reliably between +3.5 and +13.
