Last night was Mandarin's 10th cycle on this dose and, out of nowhere, he all of a sudden decided to go on a little shark hunt. I just don't get why it takes him so long to finally work a dose... and why he can't just plain drop into the high greens first and give me a little warning. Very glad that I caught this... and despite the extra HC food, his AMPS is still nice.

Meanwhile, Walter is on a carb-induced high. I just don't do well separating everyone in the middle of the night, so Walter also got some leftover HC food.

Little Iris is still steadfastly refusing to eat anything. It's been since Sunday night now since she has kept any food down. I have offered her just about anything I can think of, but she acts like she is nauseous as soon as she sniffs the food. Her vet isn't in today, but I just talked to her and I will drop her off at the clinic so that one of the other vets can check her over. She probably needs another Cerenia injection (I only have pills at home and I don't think I could get down her) and fluids.

I am worried and exhausted... and I have to get ready to drop her off and teach my first class. :arghh:

Glad that you caught Mandarin's drop! It has to be so hard dealing with 2 diabetic kitties plus a very ill baby! Sending more vines and prays for Iris and hugs to you! :bighug::bighug::bighug:

Sure Walter didn't mind the treat and he'll be fine. If Doodles gives me blue after a dosecrease I've been holding it 10-14 cycles min before another increase. He's seemed to slow his response down too. Poor little Iris and you! Can they give you some injectable cerenia to bring home? Sending mega vines and prayers for the little one and extra :bighug::bighug::bighug: for you. Boys, please go easy today.

Many, many prayers for sweet Iris. I was going to suggest the same thing as Karen: get some injectible cerenia to bring home. Have they rerun bloodwork on her? That might not be a bad idea, too, to rule out any sort of infection...

More vines for little Iris... :bighug::bighug:
Gotta get some food in her, hopefully the vet can help with some anti-nausea / appy stimulant that can help her keep a little something down.

Sorry to hear poor wee Iris still isn't feeling like herself yet. Maybe they can syringe-feed her at the vet while she's there? Agreed, sounds like she needs some more anti-nausea meds and maybe some fluids. Poor kitten.

I'm glad Mandarin decided to work the juice but he really doesn't know what "nice and slow" means, does he?:nailbiting:

Hang in there. Sending vines to both you and Iris. I'm sure you're exhausted. And a couple of these. :bighug::bighug::bighug:

We got back home about two hours ago and all I could do was put on my pjs and climb into bed for a nap. A long nap. I was so exhausted, I could hardly keep my eyes open on the drive home (luckily, I only live 2 miles from campus and the vet clinic). I'm feeling a little better... even though I could have easily stayed in bed until tomorrow morning.

Iris once again got fluids, pain meds and a Cerenia injection. I have more fluids for tonight and some Nutrical (high calorie supplement). She licked the food once at the clinic, but that was it. So far, no luck here either. I'll give her fluids at the same time the boys get their Insulin (8 pm) and hope that that will encourage her to eat. With all of her breathing problems and her ouchy mouth (she's teething), I would hate to syringe feed her. But we might have to do that.

Just wondering if Iris should have fluids again so soon?
I'm sure you've probably tried this but would warming her food a bit help? Or possibly feeding her from a fork/spoon?

She's really got to eat soon - I'm not clear on what the vet thinks is wrong
I wonder about slippery elm bark - when made into the slurry, it is supposedly very soothing for the throat and presumably the esophagus

Syringe feeding is so hard — the poor kitties hate it and we hate doing it for them when they feel so yucky. But she does need to eat and maybe that will help her feel better once she has something in her stomach. More vines and hugs...

Christina, I am so sorry to hear that little Iris is not well . Poor baby. And then Mandarin shark hunting at night! Geez, you must be exhausted. I hope you can get a good night sleep tonight and that Iris will eat for you and the boys will behave. Hugs. :bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug:

Christina have you thought of purchasing a bottle of cerenia? I keep one at home.... I always inject after I give fluids and right into the fluid bubble because it burns like fire but it works-

Also you can get ondansetron injectable... on some lactated ringers you can add any injectable in the fluids...(it has a place to inject--not into the whole bag)
The injectable ondansetron does not burn as bad as cerenia-
maybe if you can get those in her for a few days a little cypro may help??
I hope you get to rest... I am so sorry your going thru so much...
prayers:bighug:

I was going to ask about an appetite supplement like Cypro, too. You really need to get some food into her. I am very concerned about Hepatic Lipidosis. I lost a kitty to it because I let him go too long without eating, so I'm hyper-sensitive to it. Ondansetron is definitely a good option, too. You can give it in addition to Cerenia, and more often.

Sending lots of healing vines for Iris.

It's 3 am and Iris FINALLY ate a few bites of food!!! :woot::woot: I'm staying up with her for a bit to make sure that it stays down... but it's been about 10 minutes and she already went back to sleep.

And after trying just about every food imaginable (warmed up as well as room temp, home cooked, baby food, various canned foods, with and without Forti Flora), she finally went for plain old FF chicken.

Meanwhile, Mandarin is diving. He started the night at 397 and just made it into the lagoon. Still high greens, but an impressive drop for sure.
