10/25/26 GI Flare
Amps 388 Libre 😢

BG has been very high the past 2 days since this GI flare began. Once I got her eating a bit better, I started raising the dose again. This morning I took her back up to the dose she was at before the G.I. flair started on Saturday, which had been giving me good results.
I was up overnight stressing about the high BG, studying her spreadsheet 🤦‍♀️

She didn’t poop at all yesterday, but this morning there was a poop in her box which was slightly formed, but still soft.
I gave a full capsule of S Bulardii, this morning in her meal, I had been giving half a capsule the past few days twice a day. Also still giving animal essentials Colon Rescue twice a day to support her GI, ondansetron 3x, Cerenia and Mirataz.

I have her back eating her regular lamb diet and she seems to be doing OK with that last night and this morning.
I also added her supplements back in this morning, hoping that will help support her system.

She stayed in her room overnight and did not come up to get me in bed this morning, so that tells me she’s still not feeling back to her normal routine. Hope she continues to improve each day ❤️‍🩹

Safe surfing everyone 🏄‍♀️🏄‍♂️🐈‍⬛🐈

Flat as a pink pancake (not the desired color for sure)!
I can't figure out why she's so high. Can a GI flare send her BG so high for several days? When I look back at other flares they're not this high for so long.
Of course I am itchy to increase insulin to bring it down but don't want to go too fast and have her depot overfill 😥

Wondering if her vet appointment last Wednesday could have triggered this flare? She had that happen last year when she had pancreatitis, a day or 2 after a vet/lab visit and she began with loose stools which just got worse.
This incident happened 3 days after the labs last week.
Maybe the gabapentin in her system and or the stress sets her off sometimes?
So many mysteries :bookworm:

She's had three different doses in the last six cycles. Might be time for some patience pants. 👖 I do remember another kitty Trixie who very often had a pancreatic flare after a vet visit, so it's not unheard of.

Yes, inflammation can do that. As can pain. Pancreatitis, if that is what she has, is supposed to be very painful. Is she still getting gaba?

I am so glad she is eating and her poop is more normal again. 🙏 I am sorry for the high bg. Looking back in her ss, this seems to be a pattern. Wendys question about pain meds makes sense to me. Maybe the feline grimace scale gives further insights? Her cute picture from yesterday looks rather relaxed. Binie usually went into loaf position when she was in pain. I hope she is better soon! 🍀🌿❤️

She doesn’t seem to get a flare after every visit. Maybe just sometimes.
So you think I should just ride the dose for a few days?
She’s not still getting gaba and she’s back to eating, so I don’t think it’s pancreatitis this time.
She only gets Gaba when I take her to the vet to keep her a little bit chilled out. It doesn’t really do too much, but the vets all seem to want me to use it since she’s so feisty.

Im glad she’s eating better too. And she had a second poop today a little more formed, still softish. But better.
She doesn’t have a scowl on her face (like she did when she had pancreatitis in 02/25) and she was then, as you mentioned.

She just jumped up on me on the sofa for a cuddle, so feeling well enough for that.

For a pattern, it’s just a very high cycle each time with no nadir. Very unusual for her 😢
I’m not used to such a high flat cycle for 3 days so far.
Thank you Heike 💕❤️

I'm so sorry Ivy is still struggling with this GI flare-up, Staci 😢 I'm sure the vet visit was very stressful for her. But I'm glad she's starting to show those tiny little signs of improvement. Hopefully, they're the beginning of better days ahead! Sending you both lots of love and gentle hugs

Sweet Ivy, please feel better soon!

Thank you Britta, ❤️ she hates going to the vet. Sometimes she’s ok after. But other times she seems to have a flare.
It just seems to be more than a coincidence to me 😢

It’s like you want to completely knock them out when they go to the vet because of the nasty ramifications. Like, completely drug them, if that were possible.
Jude’s UTI/FIC flares (inflammation) send him soaring. Oftentimes, because he’s often asymptomatic, I only know he is having a flare bc his numbers go up.
Is there anything as distressing for a CG than seeing those high numbers? I know we shouldn’t worry—they will come down—but they always freak me out. I understand the distress, Staci.
Feel better, precious Ivy!!!🍃🍃🍃🍃🍃🍃🍃🍃🍃🍃🍃

Yes, you’re so right Mary. Our kitties are so sensitive to vet visits. It’s such a hard thing to manage 😢
This seems to be a newer thing for Ivy but seems to be somewhat of a pattern (but not every time). It seems to be sometimes, but it is a (random) pattern.
I’m really not sure what to do about it since she needs bloodwork 😢🤦‍♀️😢
