? 10/26 Hershey - Can I try cheese? CKD stage 2 And, Pepcid AC?

Hey, y'all -

I've been reading Tanya's CKD information and doing searches on here until I feel like my head is going to explode. It's been a couple of days since we were able to get Hershey to eat more than about half the daily amount he should (recurring theme). We try everything in our arsenal and it's more strike outs than homeruns. Sometimes he wants the Sheba added to the Wellness, sometimes not. He started consistently snubbed the boiled chicken and the egg and the baby food...He's never been much on treats, but we bought some to try. If the planets align just right and we put the right number of the right combination of flavored flakes on his food, he might eat it. I've talked to him and even begged...Sorry to ramble on in my frustration...

Q: I'm wondering about cheese. Is it okay for CKD Stage 2? Any particular flavors?

Q: How about Pepcid AC? Our vet went into strictly doing dental, so we have a new vet who has only seen Hershey once. Should I call her before trying Pepcid AC? or just try 1/4 (10 mg) tablet?

I'm struggling with my own health issues right now and am just exhausted. Thank you for stopping by and for any assistance you can offer.

Pepcid works for stomach acid but not so much for other types of nausea. Has she had recent labs? Stage 2 shouldn’t cause nausea so I’m wondering if something else is going on. Vomiting? Diarrhea? Or just inappetent? Do you think she might have an infection?

He's always been a grazer with finicky tendencies. I was thinking of trying the Pepcid because he has a history of kind of a foamy vomit sometimes near mealtimes. I figure he's like me, if I get too hungry. And, I've read the extra acid could cause them not to want to eat. His last labs were June, I want to say. If we hit the right combination, he seems interested in eating, that's why I was wondering about trying the cheese. See if it's the flavor of the day... Thanks for loaning your brain cells, might are about spent!

What you are describing could be stomach acid. 1/4 a regular strength Pepcid might help if tbat is the case.

Hi Libby. One of the tricks listed on the ways to get a cat to eat includes spinkles of Parmesan cheese. It's a bit salty, but probably OK in moderation if no heart issues.
