So yesterday morning I gave Bailey a mix of YAZC and Purina DM dry to try and increase his calorie intake. I mixed it with some enzymes.
I guess I gave too many enzymes because he got very nauseous and stopped eating the rest of the day until night time
I was surprised yesterday too because after his insulin his BG dropped pretty low - at a weird time. I would have guessed the dry would keep him high all day. Then I get this nasty red this morning. I actually got a 491 first time and a 392 second time and this is the average. I am guessing this is the dry - Q:isn't this late for dry to be having an impact? Anyway I am not giving him the dry for now because I can't tell how much enzymes to give in the food and we want him eating. He is eating this morning and behaving normally.
So I emailed the vet and he mentioned lymphoma or IBD causing the weight issues. I am not convinced.
However having spoken to DH, DH is saying "by the way Bailey pees and drinks a lot still". I knew he likes to drink in the morning - but doesn't touch the water bowls the rest of the day. Today I measured and he drank 1/3 cup (2.7floz). Its more than the other cats .. Q: I don't think thats a lot per day- what do you think? Plus he is over the renal threshold fairly often so I would expect him to drink more than the others. Anyway I am now wondering about CRF? He also seems a little dehydrated today (pulled at his skin - dropped slowly) but he had diarrhea yesterday and wasn't eating well so I am not surprised. I will work to get his fluids up today.
Anyway the vet is aware of all this and is thinking about it. Bailey has an appointment on Wednesday to discuss
- doing bloodwork to check B12 levels (related to EPI) and for possible CRF
- how to increase his weight
- I read prednisone can sometimes help EPI. Deal with the BG increase with insulin increase I guess.
- I found a food called Iams maximum calories - 333 calls per 5.5oz can. Any idea on carbs or phosphorous?
- Possible CRF
Wendy
PS After doing some research my vet didn't like the Creon 5 new enzyme I found. Couldn't find much success with it. Said I could try it if I wanted though.
