If it's asthma, you'll probably use the Aerojet inhaler and Flixotide (fluctisoline). Although it's a steroid, I understand from here and elsewhere that it shouldn't affect FDMB cats the way other steroid do.

Beenie is doing so well with the cabergoline, I hadn't been on for a while, so I didn't realize that he was doing that good. Looks like Beenie and Tiffany are having a bit of a race :)

That sounds like Rusty's cough, but he stretches out flat on the floor on his stomach. He coughs like that a couple of times a week. He has chronic congestion--not asthma--and had it before he came to live with us (2010). He's been tested for asthma by his regular vet and twice by IM specialists. No asthma. He does have a lot of "gunk" in his lungs. His x rays have always shown white "clouds", but no donut holes.

I hope your vet can get to the bottom of it. Allergies are a real possibility, especially since your other kitties are affected by something, too. Rusty has fish and beef allergies, so I read the ingredients lists carefully. Lots of foods that purport to be chicken have fish in the list of ingredients. We use World's Best litter and have not found it to be dusty.

Sending lots of vines to Beenie and to your civvies.

Wow thanks Darrah. It certainly seems like the same cough.
Girlie is such a beautiful cat!!! Her coloring is amazing. The avatar does her no justice...she is so so pretty:)

That was Girlie at 14 years old and pre-diabetes. She was such a beauty, but I'm her mom! :-)

Here's another video just for an asthma cough (poor lighting, but also Girlie in poor condition): this is after she'd gotten back from hospital: she'd been diagnosed with diabetes, was in hospital with pneumonia, then had the Freestyle Libre implanted and was in hospital for another week as she went hypo and they tried to regulate her. As you can see, she looks very different from Girlie in 2013. She also hadn't had her asthma meds for a month; you can hear how how her asthma cough sounds much "wetter." It was awful! She looks and sounds much better now, thank goodness, even with all of her exploits on the trampoline and her higher numbers. And we're back on the Flixotide for her asthma, so no cough anymore. :-)

Thanks
Can food allergies present themselves that way? With a cough/asthmatic flare?
I just read some of FF chicken and turkey varieties have fish in them and I don’t know why. Before FD Beenie and Ming ate the same thing for years. Purina UR prescription wet food. Ming had a few blockages years ago and was on the food for so long. Since the carb content was too high for Beenie I switched them all to FF. I rolled the dice that Ming would be ok and so far no issues. When he had those blockages crystals were never present in his urine.
So now I’ve switched FF flavors and have switched from classics (0-3 carb content) to chunky (4-6 carb content) and recently (flaked) for Buddy.
I went back to classics for Beenie and Ming because they seem to have trouble chewing up all the chunky pieces and leave a mess on the floor. They eat all the classic pates with ease and it all gets eaten. So if food allergies can cause this kind of cough then food could very well be the culprit and I’ll need to weed out protein that’s causing a problem.
Thanks for the info!!

Poor Girlie. Definitely doesn’t sound like a dry cough. What an ordeal you two went through. So glad she is doing so much better now!!!
Thanks

Is Fritz a high dose kitty because of the steroids causing insulin resistance? I see he tested neg for IAA and Acro, thank goodness
The pred. contributes also he is 29lbs and I'm sure all the cat cells don't allow the i bsul

The pred contributes to insulin resistance and he's over weight that doesn't help.

Getting her to a specialist next week. I use Worlds Best Cat Litter which is corn based. Hope that's ok for kitties with asthma.
I found the Breeze litter box is best for asthmatic kitties. It has pellets and a box where the urine drains into a liners with piddle pads. I wash and change the piddle pads every other day. I only change the pellets every other month. I constantly clean his box and never leave poop in it. With asthma no smoking pretty much no odors of any kind in the home. I run a Rabbit aire cleaner 24/7 and a cool must vaporizer. No cleaning products with scents. Our laundry soap, dish soap bar soap and anything that has a scent is not good for them to breath. Pretty much clean fresh air.

I just had a look at the Breeze system (which looks a lot like the OzPet system), but I can't find any info on the pellets. Are they biodegradable? One of the things I like about the OzPet sawdust pellets or the Natty Cat Lucerne pellets is that you can use them for compost and they don't have to get thrown into landfill (garbage dumps). The Lucerne (alfalfa?) pellets have a wonderful natural chlorophyll smell, and Girlie really likes these. These are both Australian brands, though. I know that I've seen wood pellets (not sure about the lovely-smelling Lucerne) in the US, though.

I agree with you re: clean fresh air. I never realised how strong an affect that air fresheners and even scented candles had on her.

The cough looks like Martini coughing when she has a flareup. Her xrays don't show donuts, just a 'mist'. I use Swheat Scoop litter. Check it out. No dust whatsever. I am also very careful about any smells - deodorants, cleaning fluids, candles, etc. Fritz the Brave is an excellent site.
