? 10/24 Chloe - AMPS 86 | PMPS 155 - Pepcid question

Big (for her) swing up tonight.

Question for those of you who give their cats Pepcid/famotidine: does it need to be given at a specific time relative to their meals? The only instructions on my bottle are to give once a day. The last 2 days, Chloe spit up within 30 minutes of me giving her the pill, pretty late in the day and probably an empty stomach. Should it be given with food? Shortly after?

I was giving Famotidine to Bandit for a few days and the vet asked me to give it before food. How much are you giving her and when you say she spits it out, do you mean she pukes it out?

She is getting 2.5 mg in a pill pocket. She takes the pill, and then she has vomited it up twice. Neither was immediate - both were 20-30 minutes after the dose. She takes Cerenia in these same pill pockets, so I don’t think it’s those.

I have only ever given it after a puke [watery] and about an hour before a meal. I think the bitterness of some of Bama's meds [Ondansetron, Gabapentin] causes him to vomit soon after receiving it even in a pill pocket if he happens to bite through the pocket and taste the medicine. So, my solution was to insert the famotidine [2.5 pill fragment] into a #5 gelcap and give it that way. I still have to fight him to get it down but, at least, if the gelcap doesn't dissolve in the fight, he doesn't taste the bitterness.
