If his back legs are walking lower chances are it’s diabetic neuropathy - nerve damage. Nothing to be overly concerned about you can fix it no problem with methylcobalamin B12 (not cyanocobalamin which is usually what’s in a B12 vet injection) and getting him regulated. I’ve used Drs Best brand (for humans - just break open the capsule and sprinkle on food) and found it effective, I’ve heard Zobaline talked about favourably too.

I use Zobaline for Jax since it has folic acid for absorption included. Like @Vyktors Mum said, you need regulated numbers + Methyl-B12 to help repair the nerves. So if you start Methyl-B12 now, it might be a little bit before you see physical improvement (but I totally recommend starting the Methyl-B12 when you can). Jax had mild neuropathy - some of it improved when his numbers improved but more of it improved when I got him on Methy-B12.

@Diane Tyler's Mom uses the vitacost brand of Methyl B-12 and adds Folic Acid; this is cheaper than Zobaline. I've quoted one of her posts below:

Thanks both of you for this information. How much of the methylcobalamin should I give him, what dose? Same for the Folic acid.

Looks like Vitacost does have the lowest price.

Should I ask the vet about discontinuing the cyanocobalamin shots? The fewer shots, the better! Or have her order methylcobalamin shots next time?

Thanks a bunch. Wow you guys are better than vets!

The methylB12 dose will be somewhere around 3-5mg. I’m not sure about folic acid. The maintenance dose for an older cat that’s having B12 for other reasons is much lower so there should be no issue stopping the b12 injections because likely whatever dose Squeaky’s been having this will be higher. It’s pretty rare to find injectable methylb12 and I imagine if you do it will be much more expensive.

That sounds great. I'll ask Dr Angie for her take on the folic acid. Anything that gives this little pincushion one less shot would be GREATER THAN GREAT.

    THANK YOU SO MUCH!!

    For neuropathy

Alot of members use this , I use it myself you can buy it on line from Vitacost
    Vitamin B-12 Methylcobalamin -- 5000 mcg - 100 Capsules
It's 17.99 just be sure this is the one you buy
Some us Zobaline , but it's expensive
    This is the same thing
The only difference is the Zobaline has 200 mcgs of folic acid
So I buy the folic acid at the supermarket and crush it up and add it to the B-12
If you can't find the 200 mcg get the 400 mcg and cut it in half
The Vitacost brand is a capsule so just open it and pour the powder on the wet food
Has no taste, no need to crush it up
The Zobaline is 33.99 for 60 pills, too expensive
I saw a big improvement I'd say 3 months, could be sooner. One capsule a day.
Once you get your kitty better regulated the B-12 methyl will help

    Vitamin B-12 Methylcobalamin -- 5000 mcg - 100 Capsules
