Performing an 18 hour curve today with BG tests every 3 hours. Bama was hungry and ate FF Mixed Grill Pate for the first time which he enjoyed. I am pleased to see that there is no fish broth or carrageenan listed in the ingredients. He has never eaten well when offered fish flavors other than tuna and sometimes will eat salmon. I like that FF lacks any disgusting odors that other canned food has.

Looks like that bounce you predicted yesterday happened. And he's ready for an increase to 6.5 units.

Both of you have suggested Bama may need to be tested for acromegaly and/or Insulin Auto Antibodies and you may be right. However, in studying his SS he appears to have been making real progress while on his first pen of insulin, specifically between the dates of 9/17 and 10/5 when he had several dips into blue. I started using his second pen of insulin on 10/9 and while he had a dip into blue during PM cycle of 10/9, he has hardly touched blue since. Maybe I am reaching for justification that isn't there but I am wondering if this second pen of insulin is somehow compromised and he is not getting insulin at full strength. I've compared the old pen with this current one and the other three in the box. All have the same batch number and expiration dates. Could the insulin be at fault here? Should I try dosing from another pen and if so, should I continue with 6 units until I determine if the insulin is to blame for lack of progress? Thanks for your insight. Your experience is invaluable to me and to others on this forum.

From my experience here on the forum, when those of us (myself included) pondered whether it was the insulin causing the numbers, it never was. Unless you are seeing floaties or discolouration, it's not the insulin.

I'd be increasing to 6.5u as Wendy suggested, you don't want him getting too comfy in these higher numbers.

I agree with Christie. 99/100, it's the cat, not the insulin. Though I'm pretty sure all of us have wondered that at one point or another. The only time it was the insulin for me was when it had been on the road for six days of long driving in the car with the temps over 80F every day. Though it was in a cooler. One pen out of a 5 pack shouldn't be any different than the others.

Since the second pen, blacks have gone away from the spreadsheet, and quite a bit more sunny yellow. So I think there are signs of progress. But I'm greedy for a lot more blue and even seeing some green. He needs more juice.

I know how you feel. When I looked at Darcy’s spreadsheet a few times back in 2020 I thought I had seen some glimmers of light in his numbers that later went away. I thought I had been shipped bad insulin. Ordered a new vial …. but that wasn’t the problem. A new vial had no effect. I was even being told that my spreadsheet made it look like I had received a bad vial of insulin (not on this Board at the time!). Unfortunately, it was my cat and not my insulin. You can always try a new pen to make yourself sure.
