Back to work today. Was nervous so I left down soft food to be picked at. I think that feeding the cats only bid is not working out so well. They all seem crazed hungry for the time in between. I need to find out if this ff diet is good for older civies and cats with crystals, past liver issue, etc . Twice seems a little anxious again, but so far the 3rd eyelid isnt up and he is +10.5 304. Going to be giving shot half hour early again so we will then be back on schedule.

There's no reason you have to feed only twice/day...Just make sure that for the 2 hours prior to your pre-shot tests that Twice hasn't eaten. We need to know those pre-shot numbers aren't influenced by food.

Other than those times, it's actually better for the healing pancreas to have small meals through the day, so you can either let him graze (you can add water to keep it from drying out so much, or make "Foodsicles"....wet food plus water, put into ice cube trays and freeze. Pop them out into a bag. As it thaws out during the day, it starts to "smell" again, so it provides a way to put food down in the morning before you leave that they probably won't eat (since it's frozen and has no smell) but later in the day, it'll be there for him.

You could also get an auto-feeder and set it to open somewhere during the day'

Good boy Twice...stay in safe numbers for your mamabean! She's gotta work to buy you all that wonderful fuds you're eating! :-D (but you can come down some too..just not TOO far down)

I leave out food all over my house when I go to work. More than enough for my two cats to eat. Sometimes, it's all eaten, and most times it's not.

Keep coming down Twice, nice and easy, tonight.

Thanks for the tips Chris. Will try the water with food scenario first. Do you know how much wet food Twice should be getting. He is so skinny now that I am letting him eat what he wants for both feedings. That is working out to be 2 cans of ff bid, and I know he wants snacks too. This seems like a lot, yet he's still skinny...and acts starving. I am also unsure what amount to give the overweight civies. They are begrudgingly existing on 1 can each bid, some eat more, some less.
I was looking at China's sheet again, she sure likes those greens! Hope you're feeling better from your flu Chris. :-D

Hi Dyana,

I actually tried that today and all the food was gone. Judging by how crazy 6 of the cats were acting, I'm pretty sure the last one (Rockford) ate most if not all of the food! I'm thinking of locking him up tomorrow and seeing what the plates look like when i get home. I'm just relieved I dont have to limit everyone to 2 feedings a day. I have no idea where I got that idea.. :?
 
Looks like Twice is easing down to nicer numbers. :-D

There is a good section on weight loss on http://www.catinfo.org. The formula she uses for amount of calories per day is:
Required calories per day = [13.6 X optimal lean body weight in pounds] + 70. Use that formula as a starting point and weigh regularly to adjust based on results.
