was going to get a +7 but we lost power for 5 hours. very bad storm. Tibbs was very stressed by high winds and lightning. i think his pm blood glucose was so high because of stress from storm. i'll get a plus 6 on the pm cycle and we'll see where he is. bad diarrhea today ( fresh bright red blood in it) don't know what that is all about. He seems fine otherwise but he def had a stressful day with the bad weather.

I think bright red blood in stools/diarrhoea is a symptom of bleeding in the lower part of the GI tract. Maybe give the vetty bean a call?

Poor Tibbs. Sending cat_pet_icon for your boy and :YMHUG: for you, Nadine.

Hon, if you have bright red fresh blood...Vet ASAP! No amount of bleeding is a good thing. I don't care if its out his nose, boy parts, or butt, where there is blood there is bleeding, where there is bleeding there is a need for a vet visit, unless of course it's on his ear from where you just poked.

Hi Nadine,
I am so sorry that Tibbs has this new complication. I definitely agree with everyone that a vet visit is in order. Noodle has had a lot of experience in the past with the diarrhea and bright red blood. The vets told us it was colitis--an inflamed lower bowel, extremely irritated. The "itis" means inflammation and if the bowel is irritated enough and gets kind of raw inside, bacteria will multiply and cause diarrhea. Maybe the inflammation is partially responsible for Tibbs' numbers and maybe the diarrhea is culpable too. Anyway, paws crossed for Tibbs. Please keep us posted.

Hugs,
Christi
P.S. Noodle's numbers are up again too and his urine sample is cloudy so it's back to the vet for us today too. Thinking of you.

thank you all. christi i'm sorry Noodle is having higher numbers and urinary problems. please let me know how he does at the vet. Tibbs is much better today. vet says he also has colitis and the stress and loud noise of the terrible weather made it worse. he has some medication to take and i have to give bland diet (which he really sort of gets anyway) he seems much better today and no more blood in his stool. i guess this possibly can be making his numbers higher. hope meds will help. thanks everyone.

The colitis would be painful and that wouldn't help his numbers. Glad Tibbs is doing better today. cat_pet_icon

Saoirse was a bit off today - think her digestive system was playing up. She doesn't need meds as often now but it's only through trial and error that I can measure how she's progressing. I didn't give her any ondansetron last night and she was very uncomfortable today. She hid for a little while and that always makes my heart sink because I know she's feeling sore. It shrivels me up inside to see anything wrong with her. I think 48 hours between doses is about the maximum she can tolerate at the moment while still maintaining good clinical signs. I'm looking at some nutritional supplements for her - especially for her liver - because I think that's her main problem from a BG regulation standpoint. Been reading up a bit (as best I can with the PTSD) and the glucose dumps after longer fasts may be due to the liver showing resistance to insulin and panicking as a result. I put a call in to our vetty bean today to get his input but he must have been too busy to ring me back. (He does telephone consults for us as much as possible so as to save both of us from the stress of our respective anxiety issues when we leave the flat.)

Me? I'm a bit fretty because I badly need to find us a better place to live and trying to deal with the outside world freaks me out. I wish I had someone to help me sort it out. The OCD is worsening and the sleeping is even more erratic a a result. :YMSIGH: I'm also really sad about Rosie's Chatran being so poorly. Been in tears several times today thinking about them.

How are you keeping, Nadine? For all of the niggles I have about how Saoirse's doing, she has been so easy to regulate - beautifully smooth, green Lantus curves for the last 48 hours (albeit a little higher than I am aiming for). I am wishing so hard for Tibbs - and all our other wee tutu-sporting trampoline artists - to settle into pretty greens. I feel frustrated alongside you when I read about the bouncing and the worry over what to do to make it better: I had a similar rollercoaster ride with Saoirse's pancreatitis flare. It's tough going when we can't make it all better straight away, and I feel for you. :YMHUG:

Hi Nadine,
So glad Tibbs is better today. May I ask, what did they tell you to feed him and what med is he on? I'm interested because Noodle has had colitis off and on for years. The vet said Noodle still has a trace of a UTI , so another round of meds, but agrees that his teeth should be cleaned as soon as the infection is gone. She is also very open to Levemir at some time in the future if the Lantus doesn't bring him down in a few more weeks. She definitely feels the teeth are contributing to the high BGs. Anyway so glad Tibbs is better

Hi Aine,
Read your post about possible liver supplements to help Saoirse. Has anyone mentioned mentioned milk thistle to you (it's sold as Denamarin here.) When Noodle had hepatic lipidosis we gave it to him for 30 days, along with L-carnitine and arginine and his liver numbers improved markedly.
I am so sorry you are feeling stressed today. Looking for a new place to live is so difficult and, like you, I find dealing with the outside world overwhelming at times. How great that you have a vet who will do phone consults and spare both you and Saoirse the extra burden of trips to the vet's office.
I hope your baby girl feels better and that your sleep and stress levels improve. Thinking of you both...

Hugs,
Christi
