I'm trying to put up his condo from work and update his SS, and my memory is not as good as it used to be! I'll check my details later today, but had to get to work early this am. Liz had to get to school too so it was a crazy morning! I also forgot and left a bit of food out for Zener after I did his mid-cycle night check. I suspect he ate it early this am shortly before his AMPS which may explain the big spike and quick drop, if it is possible to explain anything about Mr Z!

Liz said the vet called after I left and all looked good with renal and liver function. She did a fructosamine, because that is so standard, and though we don't think it's really necessary it's not something we feel like saying no to at this point. We'll give a better report tonight, but it was good news. Our best new discovery of the last 24 hours, Zener LOVES pill pockets! And the beans love giving him his meds and seeing his gobble them down rather than gagging him with the pill gun!

Hope everyone has a good Friday!

Re: 10/21 Zener AMPS 438;+2 310;+3.5 270 A Trak

Great descent for Zener today! Definitely looks like he snuck a snack before AMPS. Yay for pill pockets! That is great news.

Hope you both have a wonderful Friday!!

Re: 10/21 Zener AMPS 438;+2 310;+3.5 270 A Trak

Good vet report! That's always great to hear!

I'm going to have to get some pill pockets. If I mould some cheese around a pill, our civie will gobble it down and never even know it was in there. But not Weezer. Maybe the pill pockets will work for her.

Re: 10/21 Zener AMPS 438;+2 310;+3.5 270 A Trak

Thanks Melissa and Linda for stopping by and cheering on Zener. I do believe he snuck in a little snack, bad bean for forgetting and leaving it out. He so rarely self-feeds, so I haven't been as vigilant as I should be! The pill pockets are great and we were advised the duck and pea allergy ones have no corn syrup or other contraband in them.

Dashing home for a mid-cycle check before my dental appointment. Kitties are outside at the moment enjoying a atypically warm autumn day. I hate go have to bring them in!

More tonight on the vetty report.

Re: 10/21 Zener AMPS 438;+2 310;+3.5 270 A Trak

Great news about the vet and the pill pockets!!! I have some samples I snatched at a vet conference, so I'll try some with Miss Jettapickypants. Perhaps Zener can whisper to her how yummy they are! Have a great rest of your Friday!

Re: 10/21 Zener AMPS 438;+2 310;+3.5 270 A Trak

I'm behind so I hope there is nothing wrong with Zener that he has to get some additional meds.

You knw they charge you extra for fructosamine right? It is not a standard test in bloodwork and you don't need it at all. You have better data than a fruc test could ever give you.

Sure have missed hearing about things at your place. Hope you all are doing well and Zener is eating better.

Re: 10/21 Zener AMPS 438;+2 310;+3.5 270 A Trak

Hi Jac, I'll put Zener right on it. Zener is such a picky eater and not at all food focused so we were really surprised how much he loved them! :o

We were having some problems Wednesday with lethargy, liquipoo and no appetite, but it resolved in about 24 hours. The vet visit was a regular follow-up. The pill pockets are an answer to dosing him with Zobaline for peripheral neuropathy and pepcid for his tummy. We've been using a pill gun, so this is a great relief!

Yes, we realized that and our vet is pretty insistent on the test even though we are testing. She hadn't seen him in a couple of months so we acquiesced, this time.

Things are crazy as I am preparing to leave for a 4-day trip to London and Liz will be single bean in charge on her busy days at work. Zener was eating a lot better then we hit a bump in the road mid-week. He is doing much better yesterday and today.

Hope you all are well and the visit with the boys is fun fun fun!

So happy to hear good news....Glad Zener is eating better! Pill pockets work great & even My civvie used to eat anything in those pockets!!! He wasnt a great eater either..
I rolled pills in turkey, chicken, & some peeps use butter :? --Whatever works!
Have a good trip-we will miss you--Liz will do great--Hugs & lub from us!

Re: 10/21 Zener AMPS 438;+2 310;+3.5 270 A Trak

Missy and I just wanted to stop by and say hi to a fellow AlphaTracker.
His numbers sure are going down nicely. Wish Miss would take notes. I am going to have to try those pill pockets.....Missy just hates pills. That is about the only time I ever hear her growl...well and maybe sometimes at her brother. ;-)

Re: 10/21 Zener AMPS 438;~3 270;~7 174;+10 135;+11.7 118 ATr

Thanks for stopping by Mares and Missy. We use the alpha trak because we send Zener's SS to our vet weekly and they use the same meter, makes it more simple but the strips are pricey. We get them from ADW online for about 85 cents each.

Thanks Roni for the cheers! Liz will do great while I am away, she is an old pro now!

Here's the latest on our slow steady drop all day to low blues.
Today

+3.5 270 0.6oz 11%
+7.5 174, 2 pill pockets with cod liver oil (our animal communicator told us Zener wanted fish oil)
+10 132, pill pocket with Zobaline
+11 FDCK
+11.7 118

Well well...the big guy is breaking the bounce in the next cycle! We are stalling for 30 minutes to see if he surfs or starts to come up. We need to shift his shot a little later anyway to better fit Liz's work schedule while I am away the first part of next week.

Vet report was excellent for his kidney & liver function and electrolytes. Here are the fructosamine results, which we realize are more for the vet than for us! "All is good with Zener, kidneys, liver, electrolytes. Fructosomine is 407 vs 462 on May 27. The ranges are
300-350 excellent
350-400 good
400-450 fair
450-500 poor
So he has improved a whole category!"

We expect it was even better than that, based on our meter readings, before last weekend's pink and red parade.

Our animal communicator also emailed us today with some interesting tidbits, in general, Zener is feeling better more of the time and our civvie is feeling neglected. I'll write more about that later when we post Zener's PMPS. Back to the testing stool!

Hi guys,
It sounds like everything is under control here! Nice vet report, and great that Zener likes the pill pockets. Have a great weekend. Anne, have a safe trip. Liz: carry on!

Great vet report! So glad to hear that Zener is feeling better! I know how hard it is when the vet is calling for things that you know you don't necessarily need, but you need the vet. I've gotten pretty good at doing the kind but firm thing... I finally put my foot down on the fructosamine tests and the alphatrak... I just couldn't do it financially any more. Thankfully, we've found a vet that will work with that and trust in the information I can provide them.

Anxiously awaiting the story on poor, neglected civvie... scritches for both of them from me!!

Keep an eye on Zener, btw... you may have a Rainbow Bandit situation on your hands!    Mannie has been running a bit higher these days....

We like to see that others on FDMB are confident we have things under control! I'm off to London Sunday and home Wednesday night late. Liz will keep up on Zener's SS while I am gone. Thanks for the vote of confidence!

We are testing every 20 minutes to catch a rise as this would be our lowest shooting ever and we are a bit nervous. It's okay for us to move his shot a little later this week while I am gone. Good news is Zener is wanted to eat! Back to the testing stool!

Thanks for the support Christie. Our vet is part of a practice with two other vets and all three are Colorado State Univ vet school graduates. Our vet has consulted with one of the faculty at CSU about Zener's diabetes treatment since so little is known about kitties with CH and FD. So, we are willing to let her have a fructosamine test. I understand completely about the financials of it all. We keep hoping (or hallucinating) that one day, we won't have to test so often. We have a relion micro as a back up meter and one of these days, we may make the switch.

Re: 10/21 Zener PMBG 117;+0.5 112 A Trak Stalling

Zener doesn't seem to care that the civvie feels neglected. He wants ALL the attention and he's making sure he gets it!

You are so right Jac! He does this on Friday nights! Beans are giving a BOS dose, will post in a minute. nailbite_smile

Maybe we're crazy, but it's a BOS dose! nailbite_smile This is our lowest shot value ever!

Alrighty, here we go! Shoot low to stay low. Looks like a surf at this point, and we have shot at 115 before, so we're giving it a go. It's Friday night and I can stay up and test if needed. We sure hate to skip since he is feeling so good at this point and we don't want those r*d numbers again tonight or in the morning, if we can help it. Will get a +1 and keep testing. All supplies are on hand and plenty of HC, karo and test strips. Paws crossed!

Re: 10/21 Zener PMPS 110 A Trak lowest ever, after stall

You guys are doing great!!

Once you can stop poking...

More Rainbow Bandit
Even More (that devil!)

Once Zener decides to stabilize and head up a little, you should be good to go... as long as you'll be around to poke (and have supplies), a 110AT is a shootable number.

Twas Christmas Eve when we shot our first AT low number... was a 94.

Re: 10/21 Zener PMPS 110 A Trak lowest ever, after stall

    on Christie and the Rainbow bandit... that would be my boy. He still rules the roost!

Zener is looking very good today - how nice is that PMPS! Good shooting!! Very nice on the good vet report too! Go Zener!!

Thanks Christie, when we saw you shot a 94 we immediately felt better. We'll be getting a +1 here shortly. Zener is feeling good, patrolled his backyard, and came in to use his litter box so I could test for ketones. What a guy! :-D

The Rainbow Bandit stories have us laughing which is great anxiety relief!

Re: 10/21 Zener PMPS 110 A Trak lowest ever, after stall

Thanks Celi. Binks told Zener it would be okay. We envisioned you with your chain saw and a mouse up your boxers and it gave us courage to shoot!
