update on the Civvies
Hi all,
I wanted to thank you all for the vines and prayers for my Bubby. I took him back to the Vet today, his temp is almost back to normal, but he was still not eating. The Vet thinks that he has a viral infection so he did B/W, and checked him all over, including his teeth. He said it was difficult to tell if the teeth were bothering him because Bubbs is so squirmy. The B/W was all normal, and they repeated the leukemia and FIV test since it was done in March when Bubby entered the shelter and could have been in the incubation period. Thankfully that test was negative. They also gave SubQs while we were there.
The Vet sent us home with Mirtazapine for his appy. And said to just keep an eye on him. If things don't improve or if it gets worse to bring him back. As soon as we got home, he had a couple of bites of food ... On his own! Hooray! He wouldn't eat at dinner time so I syringed maybe a third of a can of max cal. After that and meds, he ate 1/4 can of friskies... On his own! Woo hoo! A couple minutes ago, he had a couple more bites. I hope this means he is starting to feel better and is on the road to being healthy again.
Before we left, the Vet talked to me about FIP (feline infectious peritonitis) because he still thinks this is a viral thing, and if it isn't FIP he isn't sure what it would be. He said there isn't a good test for FIP since it is related to the carona virus and most cats have the carona virus antibodies, so the test could give a false positive. I did read about FIP tonight, it's a fatal disease. I sure hope Bubby doesn't have that!
Does anyone have any experience with FIP? Just wondering if there is anything that I can/should do, or need to watch out for.
Hugs, prayers and vines to all that need them tonight.
Thanks,
Kathie
