Yesterday was a stressful day. Zener was not feeling good and not eating well or at all. He is not food focused so this is an on and off struggle but he hadn't been so lethargic and punk in quite some time. We dosed him with pepcid in the afternoon to hopefully settle his tummy, if that was what was bothering him. Last night, he started to feel much better and began eating. We were greatly relieved.

We had to give him all MC last night to get him eating, so may be why we're seeing the higher number this morning. We have our check up at the vet today and will post results tonight. Thanks to everyone who visited us last night when we were so anxious about Zener not eating. You are all such fabulous support for Zener and his beans, we cannot thank you enough.

I'm so glad to hear Zener is feeling better...you must be relieved! My senior civvie, Mario, is the same way...he's not one of those "I gotta eat all the time" type of cats, and when his appetite strays off course even further it's always worrisome.

Good luck with the vet today!

Amy

I'm glad Zener could be tempted into eating last night. Good luck at the vet. I'll check back tonight to see how that goes.

Very frustrating when they dont eat!! Moonie sometimes doesnt eat after her shot, which she knows make me upset--But then she does--Hope you get a good report from vet tonite-Paws & fingers crossed for good results--Hugs & lub from us!

Re: 10/20 Zener AMPS 393;+1.5 335;+3 233;+5.5 117;+7 110 ATr

Thanks, Roni. We agree that not eating is very annoying. Especially because I like to eat. Monnie is such a sweetheart to eat to keep you from worrying.

Just measured his +5.5 and +7 - looking like a nice blue surf! I got some pill pockets (Duck & Pea flavor, without dried corn syrup) and gave one to him as a poke treat. He LOVES them! Probably won't eat anything else now. Oh well. He's done much better today with his eating. So we will use one tonight with his Zobaline pill and see how that works.
Liz

Anne & Liz, good luck at the Vet today. thinking of you and sending some good vines for Zener. Glad he's better today. Hope the Vet can help with his appetite and get to the bottom of things.

Re: 10/20 Zener AMPS 393;+1.5 335;+3 233;+5.5 117;+7 110 ATr

Perhaps Zener is not eating due to the fact that he has chosen to join the Dive Cat Competition,
and wants to fine-tune that sleek body???

best of luck at the vetty, diver-man...hope they find a simple solution for iffy appy...

Thanks all for stopping in and sending best wishes for the vet visit! Our doc thought his coat was looking good and was not concerned about his slow weight loss. She thought 6oz wet food per day was okay and not to stress about it so much. She told us that cats who shift to wet food who are overweight often lose to their ideal weight, while those who are underweight often gain to their ideal weight. She thought the pepcid was a good idea and suggested dosing on a regular basis to help him with his tummy and eating issues. Overall, she was pleased with his SS values. All the blood work will be back tomorrow. Zener's favorite vet tech gave him a little pedicure and everyone told him how handsome he was looking. All in all, so far so good. Full report tomorrow when we get the results.

Liz bought pill pockets today to experiment with for giving Zener the Zobaline and Pepcid. He was ecstatic and wiggling all over just from the sound of the plastic bag. Tonight we try with the meds inside. ;-)

Thanks Ann for sending all the good thoughts. Zener was much better today even before going to the vet!

Celi - Zener would like to know when you took his picture for the dive cat photo?

Jaclyn - it is stressful to have a kitty that doesn't like to eat. We worry about that as much or more sometimes than his BG values. We've heard from others here on the list with kitties who are not food focused and tried many of their tricks with some success, thank goodness!

Thanks so much for all the support!

Vet report in previous post in Zener's condo. All went well, blood work results tomorrow. Big pink start to the day, then lots of blue. :-D

+3 233, 0.5oz 11%
+3.5, 0.25oz 11%
+6 117, 0.30oz 11%, 2 treats
+7 110, 1 duck & pea pill pocket (test to see if Zener would eat it - LOVED IT!)
+11.3 132, pill pocket with 3mg Zobaline & pill pocket with 1/4 pepcid ac
PMPS 188, 7th cycle @sk1.0u, 0.75oz 11%

Zener's appetite is much better today. :-D Liz tried the experiment with the greenies duck and pea pill pocket and Zener was beside himself with joy at this treat. So, the big test came at shot time - pill pocket plus meds. He gobbled one, then the other with almost as much enthusiasm as Julie's punkin! ;-)

Beans are also beside themselves with joy that he loved it and we may not have to gag him with a pill gun, paws crossed! We've been so darn busy this week, plus punk no eating days, and haven't visited many condos this week. Hopefully, we can catch up a little as the week winds to a merciful close! Hope everyone has a lovely evening.

Re: 10/20 Zener PMPS 188 ATrak

That sounds like Zener had a good Vet visit and it's nice the Vet thinks Zener is looking good and likes his ss. I remember Maggie lost a little weight transitioning to wet food in the beginning. Great the pill pockets are a success, too. Now just to receive the results tomorrow. Hope you and Liz can get some rest tonight. Have a good night, and we'll be looking for an update tomorrow. Hugs.

Thanks for all the good wishes and hugs! Zener was over 15lbs a few years ago, and our previous vet advised us to put him on diet kibble. Even though we fed him a "good quality" wellness kibble, we had no idea how bad it was for him. He was on that food for several years and lost only a little bit of weight. He was 14lbs before diagnosis and has slowly gone down in weight since then. We think around 12 lbs would be a good weight for him. We are looking forward to a better night's sleep tonight and will post the vet update tomorrow.

Wow... quite a jump!

PMPS 188, 7th cycle @sk1.0u, 0.75oz 11%
+1.3 301 ohmygod_smile 0.35oz 9%

Not sure if the pill pockets could be part of this big jump (he's not had them before), or the vet visit stress, or he's being a cat. We got an early test because he wanted something more to eat and we are so happy he's eating that we went ahead and tested then fed. We don't usually test this early in the cycle unless we are shooting on a low PMPS. Will check him again around +3 and see if this could be the beginning of a bounce from his lovely low blues/greens on the AT in the AM cycle.

Re: 10/20 Zener PMPS 188;+1.3 301 ATrak

could he be bouncing from that 110? shouldn't be the pill pockets making his BG go up - they don't have any carbs in them, i don't think.

so glad zener liked them. punkin didn't at first - i just used them to coat the pills. 18 days of pushing them down his throat before he took over and wanted to eat them so he could taste them!!! even after he was all enthused about them i still threw "blanks" every now and then just to keep him eating them. just in case he ever caught a taste of the nasty meds. in fact when we drove to colorado that's what we used for pokey treats. pulled off a little bit of the pill pocket and he was Mr. Happy Boy! :-D

Re: 10/20 Zener PMPS 188;+1.3 301 ATrak

Wrong way, Zener.... down you go! So glad the vet visit went well today... sounds like Zener was busy charming the pants off of everyone there!   Willie is like that... screams like a banshee the whole mile (I seriously have contemplated just walking him there), tells everyone in the waiting room his sad tale of woe, then is a perfect gentleman in the exam room while everyone coos over what a wonderfully behaved boy he is. Then we get back in the car and he goes into full on crazy mode again.

Glad to hear he likes the pill pockets! Willie is easy to pill (no teeth will do that!), so I've never tried them. Hopefully he doesn't hear about them from his friends!

Have a great night, guys!

Looks like the bounce is the most likely culprit. Despite the shoot up in numbers, he is feeling much better! :-D And so are we.

Wow, that's a great idea to give him blanks every now and then! We have some other treats that are similar in consistency and he loves them, but they contain honey, so now we only use them to bring up his BG. We are delighted to find something he seems to like as much that is okay for him to have on a regular basis.

Re: 10/20 Zener PMPS 188;+1.3 301 ATrak

Christie, you are hysterical! We have such a vision of Willie traveling to and from the vet and telling his sad tale of woe to whoever will listen in the waiting room, that really cracks us up.   We will ask Zener to please not send a PM to Willie about the pill pockets!

Looking pretty flat, so perhaps an early night for sleeping. I-)
