Hello LL! I haven't posted in a long time, but wanted to pop in and say hello since I realized it was (WOW) two years ago that I first tested Papaya's blood sugar! There are so many names I am not familiar with here now, but I do see some that I know . . . so hello to old and new kitties and beans!
Looking back in my notebook, earlier this year Papaya was still recovering from neuropathy that at one point had left her nearly unable to walk. Now she is always trotting around underfoot with her tail held high, and I find her sitting smugly on various furniture when I come home. She stomps back and forth with me room to room as I get her empty dish to refill. In fact I leave dishes with little portions of her food on the couch, table by the bed, etc. to keep her busy finding them while I'm out and give her a bit of exercise! When we were visiting my parents this summer, every once in a while she would just march straight towards the back door and expect it to be opened for her. She's never been much of an explorer, quite happy to stay inside where it's safe and where there's food, so for her to want to go out and sniff around really showed she was full of catittude!
I actually got a diabetic friend to give Papaya one PM shot this summer so I could spend the day at the lake. Other than that, if I go anywhere Papaya comes with me, and I'm still doing the 4:30 AM shots and going back to bed afterwards so that I can make sure Bouncy-Diving-Cat is safe before I leave for the day . . . 2 years of never having more than four hours of uninterrupted sleep hasn't killed me yet, though I'm pretty sure I've lost a few brain cells LOL. Early in spring I fell on some snow-covered ice and landed very hard on my wrists, making it very difficult to grasp anything small for a couple months. I was sure glad Papaya is so patient with the test-and-shoot routine since I was rather awkward with it for a while.
For those that don't know Papaya, she is veryveryvery bouncy and would do black to green and back in a cycle or two, so her spreadsheet even now is more colourful than you might expect . . . but for HER, she is leveling out a lot and doesn't usually bounce higher than yellow or mid-pink. So if you are dealing with a hard-to-regulate cat, hang in there! Papaya is purry, playful, totally enjoying life, and no one who looked at her would ever think 'oh, a sick cat'. I guess she isn't going to be a cat that gets to go off insulin, but she's doing very well on it so I am happy too.
Wishing everyone a great day!
