? 10/20 Comet PMPS 332 - need help for tonight's shot after challenging day

Here is the thread for this morning's AMPS. Did not shoot as Comet's AMPS was so low, he is not really established well yet on Lantus (what we are to do, as per vet: 1/4 unit provided BG was >250 and he had eaten well.). So the day would be great, right? No. I feel like I screwed it up and am miserable.

So feeling I like I failed him completely and am hoping you can guide me tonight. He is over 300 now and will still be there at the time of his PMPS (an hour from now). Edited to add PMPS: 332. Your help would be greatly appreciated. He seems to react strongly to the insulin even though it is a small dose.

Please ask questions if you have them or if the previous thread and my spreadsheet are unclear. And thank you for taking the time to do this. I feel like we've been thrown in the ocean and are struggling to swim. Sometimes it feels like we're doing pretty well, but this day has taken a lot out of us. I am a mess and he is still as sweet as ever. I really want to do right by him.

Thanks for reading this far, and thank you so much for your help.

Editing to add the following smart points by Mogs in the earlier thread:

>>I think Comet looks to still need some insulin support because he has been hovering in diabetic numbers without it but right now the 1/4 unit dose looks too high.<<

Also I am home all night so will be able to watch him closely. I should be able to see him through +5 easily. After that will be harder as I have not had much sleep in the last couple of days, but I am game to check as much as I can. We use the Freestyle Libre right now, so the checking isn't hard, but the tiredness can be.

Some additional info for members replying to this thread:

- Comet is currently underweight.
- He has experienced intermittent vomiting over the last couple of days.

Yes, vomited twice. Both seemed in line with what usually makes him throw up (eating too much too quickly), but who know, it could be something else/diabetes related. He usually eats fairly slowly -- has a few bites, walks away, comes back and repeats a few times.

Hi Jenny - I don't give dosing advice but Comet does not need food "on board' for Lantus...you just need to have confidence he will eat (this is different than other, harsher insulins). At a minimum, my comment will bump up your post in case someone more experienced may see it.

Thank you. His vet suggested we do it as he eats more slowly (has a few bites, walks away, comes back later, repeats a few times). It just felt safer to know that he has had something.

How long until you'd need to shoot?
Soon, I need to prep the shot soon. I was hoping that by posting this early it would up my chances of getting advice before I need to make a call. I get that everyone is busy, though.

There was some discussion on the earlier thread about possibly considering a .1 unit shot. Hoping I can measure that well.

Awesome sauce :bighug::bighug::bighug:

And Jenny until you tell me you got the anti nausea from the vet, I’m going to keep reminding you :p
:) I have listened to their stupid on-hold music so many times that I cringe when it starts playing. I will definitely let you know when I have it in hand! That you for being so persistent in your care for other kitties.

Omg lol I feel the same about my Animal Hospital. I’d rather hear silence than that music again and there’s also voice over “we care about your animals as if it were our own” I know it by heart now haha!
