Hi LL,

Sorry for no Zoe updates, but that is my fault, I have been sick and had trouble adjusting to a new Med.....but now Zoe needs thoughts and prayers. We are headed to the ER - she has been in the litterbox 8 times in the last 45 minutes and is really straining.....passing a little bit of bloody urine.......

If you look at her SS, she is doing great.....bg-wise.

Oh, Sherry, I'm very sorry to hear that Zoe is not feeling well. I'm sure that the ER vets will know exactly what to do to make her comfortable so she can heal. Please update when you can. Lots of healing vines on the way, for Zoe and for you, too.

Zoe has to stay at the hospital for a few hours while they give fluids and so they can draw a urine sample. She was given bupe and is much more comfortable. The feeling is either a bladder/kidney infection or cystitis. Will know more later.... Sorry for any misspellings - trying to post from my phone.

sending toms of healing vines, we've been through that w/ Tess. Tifil is going through the same thing and there was lots of good advice there.
 
We just got......diagnosis is probable Idiopathic Cystitis. They were unable to draw urine for a culture.....the first attempt, Zoe peed all over the table (a little tortie-tude).......so she got more fluids and the second attempt was unsuccessful, because she became too fractious wth them.

Treatment plan:
Bupe every 12 hours
Clavamox (just in case there could be an infection, as she is prone to them)
Skip lantus tonight

You might want to sent a PM to Marje. She's dealt with cystitis. I also believe that people have had good luck using glucosamine/chondrointen (e.g., Cosequin) as a supplement for idiopathic cystitis.
 
So glad you are home! Sweet Zoe is fractious? That is what they always put down for Turnup and DH says "that's an odd way to say sweet." :lol: Hope she is feeling better soon and the bupe and clavomox help!!

Have a great night and give Zoe scritches and hugs for me!
 
My kitty accidently peed in one of the tech's faces as soon as they laid him on his back :lol:

So glad to hear that Zoe is home and is feeling better with the pain meds... Hope she continues to feel better and that you all get some rest tonight!
 
I believe several of my cats have "fractious" in their files. Glad to know I taught them well...take no crap from anyone!

I hope Zoe is feeling better quickly....
 
My old vet thinks all cats are "fractious", one of the reasons we found a new one!!

So glad that Zoe is home and sending healing vines for a swift recovery.

aw, i'm so sorry zoe's not doing well - hope you get some answers quickly! thinking about both of you and hoping you're doing better on your meds too. i wondered where you'd been. take care of yourself!

I was also gone all day and so sorry I missed the chance to send healing vines to Zoe. I'm sure you were very nervous today and I'm glad she's at home with you now.

Gracie had chronic IC for three years...no bacteria or crystals. Stress induced...usually from me being gone for work but other things too like workers here. I always gave her bupe when she had an episode and rescue remedy. We did try glucosamine/chondroitin but it didn't ever help her; we tried everything...herbal remedies, acupuncture, qi gong, and finally steroids which brought us here. There is a very good FLUTD yahoo group with a knowledgable moderator.

As it turned out, Gracie had high levels of aluminum in her system most likely from overvaccination of mom since we don't vaccinate. Our vet detoxed her using Standard Process supplements and she has been doing great since May, 2010 anti jinx.

IC is a very painful thing and the pain causes more stress for the kitty. While there is a saying that if you give them antibiotics, in 7 days the IC will go away and if you don't give them AB, in 7 days the IC will go away. While I do believe that most cats exhibiting the symptoms Zoe had do NOT have a UTI, I also am slower to discount bacterial infections in FD cats if they are dumping sugar in their urine. There's no reason to believe Zow is doing that because her BGs are great.

So glad that you are home with a definitive diagnosis and treatment plan in hand. Poor sweet (aka "fractious") Zoe! My Miss Belle was always just so afraid that she never showed attitude at the vet... would distract her too much from zeroing in on the perfect hiding spot and planning her ess-cape!! :lol: :lol: With Willie, on the other hand, I get nothing but compliments for what a perfect patient he is. He's been known to purr and shake his tail during a blood draw. He really is an embarrassment to the species. :lol: :lol: :lol:
