Pretty sure that last night Shooter got into the kibble for the other 2 kitties that I accidentally left out. :arghh:
Although his high numbers could be bouncing from greens and/or the kibble I'm actually surprised he wasn't sky high! Thankfully he's already coming down.

Yesterday was an eventful day. Good news - my fiance' is now my husband ;) but my "youngest" kitty (12yr old Pepper) was diagnosed with pancreatitis. All of his bloodwork looked good except 3 things were high - MCH 17 (12.6 - 16.5), Creatinine 2.7 (.0 - 2.3) and SpecfPL 7.9 (0 - 3.5). The vet did find it odd that his Creatinine was high but not his SDMA which was 11 (0 - 14) so it is on the higher side of normal. Thoughts?

Congratulations, Heather! Sorry about the pancreatitis. I think you’ve dealt with it before so you know how to treat. Do you have Cerenia and fluids for sub-q and pain meds on hand?

I would not be alarmed by the Mean Cell Hemoglobin as it’s just slightly out of range. Not sure what to think about the Creatinine SDMA thing if the vet has no clue? Let me think about this.

Do you think Pepper is dehydrated? Did the vet think so? Some of the other blood values may reveal some level of dehydration. Things like whether a cat is dehydrated and whether the kitty was fasted before bloodwork can raise creatinine. I’m assuming Pepper hasn’t been eating normally if he’s got pancreatitis. Also, if he’s eating kibble that’s very dehydrating (you mentioned Shooter getting into some kibble possibly). Whenever I let my cats eat a meal of kibble because of lack of time or lack of canned food they are at the water bowl all day!

And the short answer is that you can get a good picture of Pepper’s kidney function by having the vet do a urinalysis. If the urine specific gravity is okay, then Pepper’s kidneys are concentrating urine well and he should be in good shape!

Congratulations, Heather! :woot:

If you update the latest labs in your SS, everyone can take a look at them. I don't have very much experience with CKD (although both Budge & Bandit are CKD Stage 2/3), but maybe the pancreatitis flare has knocked some values off temporarily?

I didn't think I should make spreadsheets for Koda and Pepper since they are not diabetic.

You can still make an Ss for them but don’t link it with your signature. I’ve started making bloodwork spreadsheets for my cats so that I can easily see changes in blood values over time.
or, just type in the results in your post. By that time though you might as well make a spreadsheet!

He wasn't fasted but Pepper and Koda do jump up on the fridge (Shooter can't jump) to get their kibble off and on throughout the day. Maybe I should start trying to wean them off at least during the day and just have it up at night. The vet never mentioned dehydration and his skin doesn't tent at all.

A urinalysis was included in his panel. His specific gravity was 1.034 but it doesn't show a reference range for me to gauge. pH was 7.0 and urine protein 1+ everything else negative and normal.

He is probably fine then in that way. I hope Pepper feels better soon!!!!
