Crazy yesterday

At least Zener is coming down from that beyond yucky number from last night. His appy is so-so, some bowl chasing has been required this morning. He is napping in the chair, while I went for a walk. Back to grading exams for me.

OT: Tillie had a pee overnight but no appetite this morning. The vet left a message and said the urinalysis came back showing she still has a UTI so it looks like another round of clavamox and adding in an anti-inflammatory. I gave her some cerenia yesterday so I will ask the vet if I should continue that. Any ideas?

Thinking of ailing kitties and beans. Happy Caturday, LL!

Peepee has trouble with every AB. She usually has projectile pukus and won't eat for days on just one dose. Lately she has been taking a new AB named Veraflox. This works great for her. We were the vets first patients on this and he wasn't sure if it would work on her UTI, but it did. No inappetence or pukus. We use the liquid. No bubble gum flavor, but it is a little chaulky. It is made just for cats. Don't know if this would work for Tillie's appy, but you might ask about it. I sure hope her UTI clears up soon!
Wishing Zener good appy vines today. Have fun with the exams, be easy on them.
Have a good day.Liz

Liz,
I am sorry to hear that Tillie still has UTI and she is not eating.
I hope she will feel better after some medication.
Sending lots of healing vines to her.
Zener, keep sliding down to blue!

Re: 10/19 Zener AMPS 322;+3 274

Here's what the Bayer web page says about veraflox:

Veraflox™ is approved for the treatment of skin infections (wounds and abscesses) in cats caused by susceptible strains of Pasteurella multocida, Streptococcus canis,
Streptococcus aureus, Staphylococcus felis and Staphylococcus pseudintermedius.
Veraflox™ was designed to improve upon the efficacy against Gram-positive and anaerobic pathogens versus previous generation fluoroquinolones while delivering the same
Gram-negative activity.*2

That's probably why the vet wasn't sure it would work on the UTI, since it's for skin infections. I'm glad it worked! I am a little skeptical that another round of clavamox will do any good. We are going to culture the urine and see what that shows.

We are at the vet now getting more squids. Thank you for the vines!

Sending many many vines for Tillie.

Did they put Tillie on any special food for the UTI?

Recently our cat had a uti and they prescribed clavamox and hills prescription food for "bladder issues" I cant remember what exactly it was called. I dont know if the food helped or if it was the AB but the UTI seemed to clear up very well. They also gave fluids to make sure to flush the fluids out to help get rid of the UTI. Is Tillie drinking any water? Is it possible its not clearing for that reason?

Sending appy vines for Zener, come on Z show us some blues!!

Have a great day Liz.

Looks like Tillie is going to hijack Zener's condo again. The cystocentesis showed no bacteria but the white blood count of 6-10, which is high. So the vet wants to do another round of clavamox, 10 days. They are going to culture the urine to see if there's anything else or if another AB would be better. She is also getting Cerenia and onsior for 3 days. I can also give cyproheptadine for appy stimulant if needed. Tillie got another 100 ml of fluids today but she still is not interested in eating at all, so I used the piller to give the clavamox, onsior and Cerenia, chased by some water to wash it all down. I will give her some cypro if she doesn't want to eat in the next couple of hours. nailbite_smile nailbite_smile

ETA: She peed in the carrier on the way home and there was some blood in it. Poor baby. The cystocentesis says her urine was pink and cloudy. No crystals.

Re: 10/19 Zener AMPS 322;+3 274;+6 258 Tillie not eating

It sounds like a culture and sensitivity are really needed to figure out what the best AB is. I really hope Tillie feels better soon.

Re: 10/19 Zener PMPS 310 Tillie not eating

Sorry to hear that Tillie is still feeling punk. Clavamox really is hard on a lot of cats.

Yes, did they do a C&S? Tess has had several UTI infections. For her the bacteria is usually e-coli. Clavamox did a number on her, no appy and vomiting an hour after the ab like clockwork. Last time she was switched to Orbax, which is listed for e-coli. No vomiting and no loss of appetite! :-D :-D :-D And the infection cleared up fast.

To keep it from recurring again she gets glucosamine chondroitin, it strengthens the bladder lining to resist infection. And also cranberry/d-Mannose which can block the bacteria from latching on in the bladder. She also gets probiotics every day, the more good bacteria in the gut the fewer bad bacteria can inhabit it. E-coli can easily migrate from the anus and up the urethra!

I gave Tillie some cyproheptadine about an hour ago and she just ate about a tablespoon of chicken florentine. She doesn't like fortiflora anymore. Thank you for all of the vines and good wishes! We are going to get an ultrasound tomorrow to rule out a kidney infection.

Hi Liz,

Happy to hear that she ate a little bit. Clavamox didn't sit well with Cleo either, but I don't know if any would. Hoping she feels better tomorrow and her appy improves. fingers and paws crossed for a good vetty visit~
