Khan is walking much better, more active coming and going from his room to my bedroom and to my son's bed. Purring last night! and cleaning himself early this morning.

Amps: 274, 1u, B12, 1cFF
+1: 267, 1cFF-- he sure was hungry!!
+5: 276, 1cFF (no not a typo it is 276)--seems to be more alert.

Good morning! It's good to hear that Khan is acting better! I would go early (+5) if you are nervous. Since you have just started Lantus, the shed is still filling and you really have very little data on his nadir.

Hi Jenee...did you leave food out for Khan today? When you go back to check, you can post the new number in your header. go to the first post and click "edit" and then add the number after your +1...good job with that this morning!
Feed him after you test and then leave food out for him for the rest of the afternoon, okay? See you later! :razz:

SS updated, I'll take lunch at +5 (11am) then get back on here to post. If there is an issue at home I'll stay at home.

Good morning, Jenee and Khan! Sounds like the other ladies are on the spot and are giving you some good information. Sounds like he is doing better...I like to see that! Hoping you get a nice number at +5!!

Good morning! Nice to read that Khan is doing better. It is always nerve wracking when one has to work and have an FD kitty at home. it is nice that you are able to go home and check on Khan. Good advice given above too. have a good day - I hope Khan does too.

Yes happy he is getting better and on the road to recovery. I gave him 1cFF.. maybe I should of left out more food? I did freeze some cubes last night. how much do you usually leave out?

Was that 1 can of FF? I guess it depends on how much they are eating...maybe for now leave 2 pucks? do you think that will be enough? when will you be home? If that is a can off FF that should last too, right? Or did he eat the whole thing in one swoop?

Yes that is 1 can Fancy Feast. Most of the time he will eat the entire can. This morning at 11am (+5) there was a bit left from am feeding but not much. He dove right in when I opened another can at 11am. He is so good, comes off his perch right when I get home, sits with front paws out so belly on the ground, I give him lov'n and rub and blow warm air on his ear, poke him, then feed him. He is the only one in his room during the day so I can monitor him-eating/peeing/pooping. He has a window, cat tree, cat house and a warm heating pad.. pad is in his carrier.. which he freaks out if I even take him close to it.. all because of what he went thru at the vet's office.

I'll look for suggestions on what other items to offer to keep him comfortable..what have others found to work since I have 5 cats I like different ideas/options.

Hello there,

I don't think I've visited you before! Welcome to lantus land!!!

It's normal to be nervous... getting the hang of the insulin, the food, the lingo and working at the same time is tough!!! It will get better though.

I just wanted to perhaps make one suggestion... deal with one thing at the time for now... (unless it's ketones and/or infections). At this stage, I think perhaps you should focus on getting your head wrapped around the food and the insulin.... it's plenty at the start.... and I mean that with all due respect.

W.r.t. the food, diabetes is a starving disease were the nutrition doesn't get to the cells of the body. Don't worry too too much about how much you serve - within reason. At the blood sugar levels will level out, you should see the 'appetite for destruction' attenuate. I hope you find this helpful.

Khans' BG dropped in 2.5 hrs

Do i have to worry he is going to drop fast? Should I be getting every 2 hrs and checking him?

That's a pretty big drop, I'd check him every hour, at least, so you can feed if you need to slow it down.

that is what I was thinking too. How low do I allow BG to go before I feed a high carb food?
 
going to bed, will test at +5, +6 to see how low he goes - Khan sleeps right next to me so to test will be not a big deal. If he drops below 100 I'll be coming back on here.
