Good Morning LL. I got up this morning, the girls were already awake and a little loud, but hadn't been in my room yet, and Muffin was still on my bed. So I figured I'd get her test done before the stress hit. I got 142, and the girls hit the room right after, so since I couldn't feed her anyway, I decided to call that a +11, and hope that in an hour she'd give me a better number. No such luck. :? She's not into her breffis yet, but she'll probably start on it shortly. She was very cooperative for both tests this morning, but that's been the extent of our interaction so far.

These weird high pre-shots concern me just a little. She brings herself down, so I guess she's ok without insulin? Do non-diabetic cats experience high BG's during stress?

Thanks Michelle, for weighing in last night with your experience with I131. Very helpful. :YMHUG: We're asking for good vetty vines for Shnookie this morning - he goes in for heart murmur and T4 rechecks.

ETA: I did find some possible contraband in the kitchen! Looks like she may have licked out the tuna helper pan that didn't get washed last night! ohmygod_smile

Re: 10/18 Muffin ambg 144 Is this ok? Day 11

Sending good vetty vines for Shnookie today. Hope Muffin comes back down where she belongs! Bad beans for not cleaning up the pan!

Hi guys .. ohmygod_smile muffin!! You can't go around eating left overs out of pots and pans .. that is NOT very lady like! Hopefully she brings herself down today .. have a great day guys!

Re: 10/18 Muffin ambg 144 Is this ok? Day 11

If it's contraband, you know the cause. I'd get a test at around your +3 to see if Muffin brought her numbers down.

Any animal that naturally produces stress hormones (corticosteroids) will release those hormones when stressed. It's a protective, "fight or flight" mechanism. BG goes up so there's more energy available to deal with the source of the stress.

Anne, I`m so fascinated by your journey with Muffin! I`m learning about staying calm from you... Tails crossed for a number that makes the bean smile at +3 :-)

Good vetty vines for your Shnookie! :YMHUG:

Re: 10/18 Muffin ambg 144 Is this ok? Day 11

Hi Anne,
Day 11 already! I wouldn't worry about the 144 as long as Muffin brings herself back down. And, as you say, it could be from the tuna helper! (or from stress).

Good luck to Schnookie. Have you see Dr. Lisa Pierson's new chapter in her CatHealth website? It is all on Hyper-T. It is excellent:
http://www.felinediabetes.com/FDMB/posting.php?mode=reply&f=9&t=81379
She gives many references to the work of Dr. Mark E. Peterson (the pioneering work in feline hyper-T). We took Stu to Dr. Peterson's clinic, but his health had so deteriorated that he could not begin the I131 treatment. Here's a link to Hypurrcat, Dr. Peterson's website:
http://www.animalendocrine.com/hypurrcat/hypurrcat/

Hope this helps. I agree that if you have access to a treatment that will cure hyper-T in 98% of cases, you should do it, especially if the dose of methimazole keeps needing to be increased and Schnookie is only 8 years old.

Hugs to you all,

Ella & Rusty

We're gonna dance anyway! It'll help work that contraband out of Muffin's system!

Good luck w/ Schnookie's vet visit. I have no experience w/ hyper-T, but I'm learning a lot there.

Pmbg 93. I never got around to testing during the day.

Shnookie had a good vetty visit, thank you all for the vines. I had to push it back a couple hours, because Shnookie was nowhere to be found this morning. When he did show up, he was obviously not feeling well, so I was really happy we had an appt. I decided to run a full blood panel including a specfPL. Shnookie was laying under DD's bed when I had to administer the acepromazine - he NEVER lays under a bed. He's very much a center of the room kinda guy. No tachycardia, no doubt due to the acepromazine on board, but heart murmur is still there. No worse, but no better either. Dr said he'd call the cardiologist Shnookie saw in March to see what he recommends. He'll also look into the best place for the I131 treatment. There's a VCA very close to me that does it, but I don't know whether or not they do the scan (can't remember exactly what it's called) and I definitely want that done first. UC Davis will probably be the best place he thinks, so maybe we can do that and the ECG (if that's what's recommended) recheck at the same time.

I nearly got a new kitten. ohmygod_smile One of the techs has 2 kittens she has rescued. One is a grey and white male about 6 weeks old, just wild and adorable. She's probably keeping that one. The other one is an all black female 3 weeks old, found by the side of road choking on dirt when she was only 3 days old. I played with her while we waited, and absolutely fell in love with her. So much so that I made Shnookie wait after we were done so I could play with her some more. She's really stolen my heart, and I can't stop thinking about her. But there's just no way I can bring another cat into this household. Here she is:

Hi Anne - sorry for the late post... DGS days are always so busy and so hard to find any time to visit anyone. And by the time I find the time I'm in major sleep mode.... I hope your day has been a good one!

Cute kitty!... hard not to adopt, huh!

WONDERFUL to see Muffin back n track. YAY!
