10/18 Ginger - At the rainbow bridge

7 am update:

The ER vet said she still doesnt look great, but is more responsive and is holding herself upright (laying down, but upright) rather than laying on her side motionless.
When he walks into the room, it is ovbious she is aware and follows him moving around the room. (with her eyes and head)

Sodium levels are still slowly going down at a good safe rate. There are no signs of swelling of her brain so far.
Her BG level has been in the low 200's overnight.

Intern Specialist will see her around 9-10 am for evaluation and exam.

So far, so good. Let's hope the good report continues when the specialist has made the exam.

I'm of course upset, but ok.
Very glad she is improving rather than getting worse.

My Babibear cat that was born in the same litter as Ginger. We raised them both from 3 days old...
He is staring at the spot where Ginger would lay all day by the water bowl. Looks up at me and cry's.
Last night he laid there all evening.

awww, poor babibear, he just doesn't understand. My Ralph is very sensitive to things like that...He still walks around looking for my akita, and he's been gone three years now, and in the mornings, he just crys and crys until my mom gets up (he just LOVES her).
I hope that the Internal Specialist can figure out what is going on with your girl and can get her on the road to wellness.
Healing vines, white lights, and snowflakes being sent for Ginger and I'll also send some of those calming vines to Babibear to help him through this hard time...and of course (((((((Lori)))))) this is for you :YMHUG:

I hope you get some good news from the Specialist. Positive thoughts and prayers for Ginger and comfort for Babibear, too, and hoping soon he gets Ginger back home.

Aww Lori, how sad for babibear. doesn't understand where his sis went. I'm glad the vet report is somewhat better this morning. Still sending prayers that Ginger makes a full recovery.

Lori I'm keeping good thoughts and sending healing to Ginger. It's hard on the kitties at home too I hope BabiBear( so cute)will be able to get extra cuddles and lap time. Take care of yourself too.Love and healing light to everyone.

9:30 am.

Intern Specialist called me with really bad news.

She said Ginger was in Hyper(something) Coma when I brought her in.
She said it was a very rare conditon which caused swelling to her brain.
She said it was caused by Kidney Failure.
She is hearing abnormalties of her heart as well.
She believes Ginger will only have a 10% chance of survival and it would be a hard rough time for her.
She thinks I should put her to sleep.

I have to call her with my decision of what I want to do within the hour.

I made the decision to have her put to sleep. I do not want her to keep suffering.

I am so sorry Lori. I know your heart is breaking and I wish there was something I could do. You and your family are in my prayers. You did everything you could for Ginger and this is your final act of love - letting her go free from pain and suffering.

Lori, you made the right decision for Ginger. Even though it hurts you so much, you saved Ginger from pain and suffering.
My thoughts are with you and I hope this pain will slowly ease away in time and you can remember the happy loving days with Ginger. I'm so very sorry.

I know you will look in Ginger's eyes and she will tell you what she wants to do...just quiet your mind and listen and remember that if you decide

I'm so sorry, Lori. My post from earlier is gone, but I was hoping the improvements were a good sign. I'm so sorry you had to let her go but sparing her from future pain or discomfort was the kindest choice. I'm glad you got her to a place where they could help make her comfortable first and pass peacefully. (( Lori and DH, and scritches for Babibear ))

All our GA kitties will be waiting to greet Ginger at the Bridge. You are freeing her from pain and suffering. It is often harder to let go than cling to false hope. You are once again putting Ginger's welfare before yourself.

She did recognize us when we went to say goodbye.
I am very glad we made the decision we did. She was probably only 1% better than she was last night.
She did lift her little head to look at us, and reached for my hand with her little paw, but it was a real effort and she laid her head back down.
She went quick and peacefully holding my hand.

The specialist did tell me we did everything right for her, more than most people would do and that there was nothing more we could have done for her with this rare condition. She was glad we made the decision we did, instead of trying to see if she could survive it all.

I so appreciate your good thoughts and wishes and all the help and advice everyone here gave me. I could not have done this without you.

My condolences to you and your family Lori...I am so sorry....that was sweet that she was holding your hand. This is so difficult, but it was the most loving thing you could have done...this was an unselfish gift that you gave to her.....

So sorry at the outcome but glad you had the strength to do the right thing when Ginger needed you to. So glad she knew you that were there.
