Good morning BJ. I'm glad to see that Spitzer did ok overnight. The high number this morning is to be expected, dry food lasts a long time, which is why it is better to give HC wet food. If possible, I would try to pick up some today...something with gravy over 18% carb from J&B's list. It will help you bring up low numbers without the long lasting effect.

I'm not experienced enough with Lantus to be comfortable giving dosing advice, but I agree that Spitzer's dose needs to be decreased. Hopefully someone with more experience will chime in soon. You might want to put "dose?" in your header so others will take a look before shot time.

Spitzer's Sunday Condo
I linked your condo from yesterday.

Are you home to monitor during the day?

I'm thinking that it might make sense to start a little lower, at 0.75u. You've had to skip a few shots due to low numbers. Rather than skipping, it makes more sense to lower the dose so you can shoot twice a day. It's also a safer strategy if you're not going to be home.

I've been bringing the insulin dose down as I, too, have noticed that what the vet recommended, and my attempts to decrease it, still get him too low for too long.

Going with 1 today; plan to stop home about +6 to check on him.

Lots of canned food out, and so far, he does eat if he needs to do so.

Actually, the numbers for the day were too low, because Spitzer should have been high enough to give another insulin in the evening. I wound up staying up til 1 am monitoring to make sure he didn't hypo out on me because I gave him insulin in the evening and should not have done so.

Thank G*d he eats to accommodate the insulin, or I'd've been doing Karo syrup or making a mad dash to the Vet ER.

You can see the dry and HC starting to clear his system already. Good idea to reduce the dose this morning, however you've got to start holding a dose for several days to see how it is working. Right now you may still be seeing some action from an overly full shed releasing extra insulin. it can take a couple of days before you see how just the dose you are giving now is working. I think Sienne was right about the .75u, it would have been safer.

Can you get today's AMPS into your first subject line? Put DOSE in that first subject line too, for more advice.

Hello there,

I don't think I've stopped in your condo yet... welcome to lantus land.
The learning curve is a little steep but there is lots of help and lots of information on this board.

I agree with the others who have suggested to stick to the 0.75U dose for now. Gotta get that bean (you) trained.... :? Pitch the kibble and get ready to dance with the wet food servers.

See you around.
