Good Morning LL!    What else can I say? After her start in Pink i certainly wasn't expecting that dive or that she would still be low this morning! :-D :-D

WCR All 5 Ps, CleanBuried Plate Club! This doesn't bode well for the feeder today. I guess Wellness beef & Chicken is going off the menu.

Christie, Hmmmmmm, That's a good idea on the consultation.

Marje. this is where I found the info on USG numbers. It's from Tanya's page on "What do all those Test Results Mean"
Urine Specific Gravity (USG)
Because of their desert heritage, healthy cats have concentrated urine. The normal range is 1.008 to 1.060 but a cat with a USG below 1.040 is generally considered to have a problem of some kind; in CRF cats it will probably be between 1.008 and 1.012. Once a cat is receiving regular fluid therapy, this test can be rather unreliable.
Cats with diabetes or hyperactive thyroid may also have dilute urine. Other possible causes of dilute urine include liver disease or use of corticosteroids. Cats with pyelonephritis (kidney infection) may have low USG.

Re: 10/17 AMPS~64

wow, Ann...I'm just catching up on your condos from the last 3 days...
totally understand the 'obsession with research' reaction.

Tessie...what on earth, little girl? i realize that you, like your bean, are a GREAT multi-tasker...
but let's focus that talent on party planning, and NOT have any additional health concerns!

what an absolutely gorgeous amps!

Re: 10/17 AMPS~64

Ann:

Tess is looking stunning in the 60s!!! Go go go Tess!! I hope she continues surfing today....where is our KK?? Love the Buried plate club!!!

Oh..BTW, her name isn't in the subject line.

Thanks for the info off Tanya's page. I swear no matter how much you read on that website, there is something you miss. That's very interesting...I wonder if she means a cat that has symptoms but has not started treatment? The reason I say this is because it would make sense for an untreated cat with FD or hyperthyroidism to have a lower USG because they are PD. Once the condition is treated and they are drinking less water, then their USG "should" return to normal unless they are getting fluids. It could also be ECID but I "think" she might be referencing untreated cats (same as with the pyelonephritis).

Hope you all have a wonderful day!!

Re: 10/17 AMPS~64

HI Ann & Tess,

Great AMPS, Tess. KK Kitty will be surfin' green today!!
Good reading today, Ann! Don't let it get obsessive, however. Go out and have some fun. The books and articles and web pages will still be there when you get back.

Rusty doesn't like beef flavors and even got sick on Cowboy Cookout. Maybe Tess isn't a fan of beef either. We're sticking with Wellness Turkey, which is always eaten with enthusiasm here. Did you see Marje's comment in Rusty's condo yesterday? She has been feeding Wellness Turkey almost exclusively to Gracie and Tobey for months and has not noticed that it spikes Gracie's bgs.

Check in with you later. Enjoy the day,

Ella & Rusty

Actually....I feed WN chicken, beef and chicken, and turkey (all 4%)....I rotate them. But I annotate it on Gracie's SS. You can look and see that none of them keep her from getting into the lower numbers. On her lantus SS, you can go back to when I was feeding the 0-1% foods and the WN and there was no difference. The consistency of switching ONLY to WN 4% seemed to help control her dives over time...for the most part.

I am considering going to the TC feline raw for two reasons (1) I think it's healthier and wonder if Teddi's lymphoma had to do with diet...even high quality canned and (2) less fat, more protein. I'm sure I can get Tobey to eat it...Gracie...hmmm..

Re: 10/17 AMPS~64

Good morning, guys.... and lovely start for Miss Tess this morning!

Glad you're considering the consult. FWIW, I have found that the homemade diet created by Dr. LIsa has been MUCH cheaper than using TCFeline or Feline Instincts... there was really only one pre-mix out there that came even close in terms of affordability. Between that, and her recommendations on testing to do/avoid, she has saved us more than the amount of the consults! We spent an hour on the phone each time, with her walking me through every number on his labs, explaining what the number was and where the number at not generally, but in terms of a 15 year old diabetic cat with a skin condition.... and she gave me numbers to look for in terms of future blood work (like "you're okay with where you're at, but if the number gets to X, we need to look at intervening).

With you having several recent blood tests for comparison, she would be able to tell you want the changes mean big picture and number by number. I just really like that I feel like I know what I'm doing... and can have intelligent conversations with Willie's vets. This time, Willie's BUN and Creatinine were high, which freaked the vet out... but I know that because of his very high protein diet, those numbers will naturally run a bit higher than normal, and that those alone are not cause for alarm (especially given that his phosporus, at a 4.0, is okay and had actually decreased). Similarly, Tess' diet is atypical in comparison to the carb fest enjoyed by a majority of cats, and that will be reflected in her test results. The key is knowing which differences are okay, and which ones require intervention (low phos food, binders, egg whites, etc).

I know (too well!) it's all stressful having to suddenly worry about the kidneys on top of everything else, but you guys do such an amazing job with Tess.... once you get the answers you need, you'll have her back on track in no time... and in a few months, we'll no doubt be celebrating her fantastic bloodwork results!!

Hugs from us!!

PS-- You forgot Tess' name in your subject line! :-D

Re: 10/17 AMPS~64 +2~47

morning guys - great discussion here today.

sorry for the buried plate club - too funny! guess Wellness Beef and Children is a no go... I've been feeding Mannie wellness exclusively for the most part for along time now, it hasn't spiked his BG either. I think the consistency of the same foods gives one a better understanding of what the insult is doing - one less variable. I will also rotate the flavors that he gets; Chicken, Turkey, and Beef and Chicken.

yes on the USG. It is common for FD kitties to have diluted urine... it comes with the territory or so I am told - even treated diabetics. Unless you are so tightly regulated you will see this, Mannie's has been diluted for some time, my vet it not concerned and won't be unless there is a dramatic change in the numbers. I liked you inclusion of lab results - adding all together. I did this with Mannie too, so I can see where his numbers are, and how they have or have not changed with each BW panel done. it is extremely helpful.

Have a good days guys!! very nice numbers for Tess... But hey: she would like credit for them - no Tess in the subject line...

Re: 10/17 Tess AMPS~64 +2~47 +3~66

Great numbers for Tess..Gee I seem to have stumbled upon a very scientific conversation!
Tess is doing great, looks like Moonie could join her in the buried plate club, I have lots of pix of buried cat art--Lucy(Libby's) also did this!
I'm keeping this light, as I am happy for such a great cycle for Tess--Hugsa & Lubs from us!

Re: 10/17 Tess AMPS~64 +3~47 +4~66 +5~53

Tess is keeping me hopping this morning, I think the lower numbers are from being fussy about the food rather than just a big drop. i think she is still a full mini meal behind schedule. I've resorted to a little 9% gravy to get her to eat today.   Sorry about missing her name, goofed up the + time too. All fixed now.

We have been Feeding Wellness primarily too, i agree that the same basic food helps to keep things consistent. However, their Chicken is off the menu and now it looks like Beef and Chicken too. That just leaves the Turkey and she gets tired of having just that. I don't want her to refuse that too so i was mixing in a little more FF in the last couple of weeks. I wonder if that is what brought her Phos numbers up?

John is out shopping now trying to see if we can find the Wysong. The only place I'm sure I've seen it is all the way down in St Barbara. We're going to give EVO, Merrick Bfore GRains and Blue wilderness again too. She has snubbed them in the past though. That about does it for the low Carb/Low Phos food, except Friskies. That's probably the only one she will like!

Re: 10/17 Tess AMPS~64 +3~47 +4~66 +5~53 +6~47

I broke down and opened up the FF Salmon and added a little, it looks like she will finish at least one of the snubbed meals.

Re: 10/17 Tess AMPS~64 +3~47 +4~66 +5~53 +6~47

Ann - rest your brain! You're making ME tired..

Tess - nice numbers but don't dare go too low...dat's no fun...

Hugs,

Binks has discovered a fondness for wellness chicken, turkey, and gravy foodies...
but I suspect it may be influenced by the fact that he has a bit of a neutered boy crush on Tessie :-D

For goodness sake...DO NOT let on that i shared that tidbit...
he'd NEVER forgive me! He's so shy along those lines that he could barely bring himself to whisper it in my ear.

loving her cycle!!!

Awwwww, Binksy, I'll gladly share with you all the Wellness Chicken you want! -- Tess

Re: 10/17 Tess AMPS~64 +3~47 +4~66 +5~53 +6~47 +7~62

Hi Ann, beautiful cyle today for Tess. I'm a little behind in condos, but why is the WN chicken and beef off the menu? I'll go back and catch up but thought I could take a short cut.

Re: 10/17 Tess AMPS~64 +3~47 +4~66 +5~53 +6~47 +7~62 +8~48

Hi, Ann. The WN beef & chicken is off because our little darling doesn't like it anymore and will go on a hunger strike till she gets some junk food! ohmygod_smile cat(2)_steam ohmygod_smile   Don't know why she is snubbing other than she is a cat and ECID  She knows it will work when she gets BG below 50, like the present 48. I added about half FF tender beef & chicken to the leftover and she gobbled it all right down   ~ John

Oh how funny, John; that sounds just like Maggie and her particulars with food. They do love the FF, especially the grilled, which is a no no, except when they are low. Wow on the +8 @ 48! Beautiful green cycle today for Tess.

Re: 10/17 Tess AMPS~64 PMPS~61 +2~61

Wow, what great cycles today! Just wondering how much of this is from her picky eating. She did eventually eat all four breffis, but stretcheout until +8. Please don't do that tonight, Tess!
