Good Morning ~O) ~O) Not sure what`s going on still. But he is eating one way or another, sometimes on his own, sometimes off of a spoon.

He is still throwing up when the meds wear off, an hour or so before shot times. And he`s way too interested in water for my liking. I am worried. The other day I interviewed another vet when I bought the ondansetron, and (heart in mouth) I think I should take Reuben to him. He was knowledgeable about pancreatitis, was insistent that home bg testing must be done for diabetes (!!!) and we were able to come to an agreement when we had different ideas about things (like NOT anesthetizing Reuben to do a blood draw, which is a normal practice in these parts  ).

We had blood work done 2 months ago, so it feels weird to be doing it again so soon, but I can`t think of any other way to find out what the problem is, and eliminate the biggest worries. Any thoughts on this? I know I`m probably not thinking about things all that well right now, from so much worry... so input is helpful.

I am going to get the +2 now, probably should have gotten the +1... :YMSIGH:

Things are fine in the LB; he purrs; and sits.

Ongoing Medications:
Clavamox 50mg bid
Ondansetron 5mg bid began 10/15 1 hour before pre shot with pepcid
Pepcid 2.5mg bid

Hi Alexa, Glad Reuben is eating, sorry is throwing up. No suggestions, just hope you can get it figured out. cat_pet_icon Did you ever try the liver shake? Your new vet sounds enlightened which is quite promising. Maybe blood tests will give some new insight to help Reuben, glad they won't anesthetize him for that.

Re: 10/17 Reuben AMPS 101 2*80 3*61

As of +3.5 reuben was missing...

at +3 i had gone up to the terrace where he was hanging out (!) to take the +3/61, and came back into the house to post the reading. i went back at 3.5 and he was nowhere to be found,....i couldn`t find him Anywhere. :-/ i spent an hour looking for him, absolutely everywhere, and he was nowhere to be found.

he had just had a good meal, and i figured the the lowest he would go today would be maximum upper 40's. so i just had to chill out. aaaaaaarrrrrrghhhh;

At +6 just now he just re-materialized, with a bg of +6/49 .....in the same spot where i had last seen him before  WHEW! he was hungry and ate a big lunch. off a spoon of course, i am well trained now.

So since his nadir is normally earlier than +6 I assume he went lower. He must have found an amazing place to hide so he could sleep undisturbed by the poking.

That was interesting.... confused_cat nailbite_smile

Re: 10/17 Reuben AMPS 101 2*80 3*61

doesn't it just wig you out when they do the disappearing thing! i've been known to be running around practically naked except for my dressing gown, in the middle of the night, in the back yard trying to find Ruper! (least back in the early days!).....

glad you found Rueben, sorry to hear he's been throwing up. i use a product made by SISU (for people) called Multi Enzyme - it's really good for the digestion and helps with upset tummies etc. all my cats have had it at one time or another. Used to be called Digi Enzyme and then they changed the name.. might be Super enzyme now (!?)... anyway, pull apart capsules and I put one in the morning food of any of my cats that's feeling a bit off, seems to really help. might be worth looking into? nice to see Reuben in the greens though!

Re: 10/17 Reuben AMPS 101 2*80 3*61 6*49 9*60

thank you pip, i felt better knowing these things just happen!,, and i`m definitely going to look for those enzymes! so much appreciated

leslie - thanks for the support :-) no livers yet, so no liver shake, still waiting. i will only buy from one place, but you have to get there really early. that so hasn`t happened recently, the reallly early thing. but soon. he's eating though. up at least a pound and a half

i`m assuming that i take a reduction tonight , and would love to have confirmation of that if possible! thaaaank you!!

Re: 10/17 Reuben AMPS 101 2*80 3*61 6*49 9*60

Alexa

Yes...I would most definitely reduce him tonight to .25u and let him try it on for size. Good luck with the reduction. I'll be around tonight and will keep an eye out, ok?

Re: 10/17 Reuben AMPS 101 2*80 3*61 6*49 9*60 11*79

Thank you so much, Marje! We'll try it on right now. And I`m very happy to know you`ll be around  Thanks again!!

Re: 10/17 Reuben PMPS 96

Hello Alexa,
I came to answer your question over here.
You'll just have to watch to see if the lantus didn't do well. Suddenly your numbers don't make sense.. ( not that they always do...ohmygod_smile
But I dropped my lantus early on , no padding at all standing up and it hit the hard floor twice in a row. ( me.. idiot)
And it did just fine. I dropped it again a month ago but only from 2 ft off the ground.
I'm amazed... I have a third of the vial left.

And today, we did a blood draw, from Shadow's rear leg, no anethesia, just me holding her head and a helper holding her other rear leg.
She didn't like it but she didn't move.
I think some vets aren't confident that they can react to a moving cat well enough and would rather they lay perfectly still .
But I would want a vet who is willing to try first and see if my cat will cooperate or become a tazmanian devil.
(added cost and added risks for your cat)

How amazing that Reuben is down to 0.25u.
Go Reuben!!

Re: 10/17 Reuben PMPS 96

The difference in Reuben's SS from August to October is amazing! You are doing a great job, Alexa. And that vet sounds very promising - paws crossed.
