Been at this for over a week, now. Recapping this here to try to make sense of my furiously scribbled notes.
10/07 - Butters began acting disoriented. Took her to the vet.
10/08 - lab work came back showing poss early CKD, stage 2. Butters acting like normal self.
10/09 - Butters was clingier, seemed lethargic, twitchy. Ate all day. Stopped eating later at night.
10/10 - Vomited twice early in the morning. Took her to the ER closer to where she lives. Given plasmalyte, blood panels, spec fPLI, thyroid.
10/11 - spec fPLI shows pancreatitis. Came home from ER in afternoon with inadequate drugs to control her pain, no subQ fluids. Vets thought she was too nervous and that she would do better at home. Also told me Butters was in remission in her opinion. Butters wouldn't eat at home. Syringe fed her.
10/12 - still home. Twitchy. I gave her buprenorphine, zyrtec and ondansetron. Wouldn't eat. I syringe fed her. Gave half dose of insulin in evening.
10/13 - Still home. same medications. ate almost nothing on her own. I syringe fed her, gave half dose of insulin and took her to the other ER. IM vet took over primary care in the afternoon. Ultrasound showed pancreas is inflamed, diagnosed with "mild" pancreatitis. Butters ate a little a/d food. Placed on methadone and gabapentin for pain. Plasmalyte fluids. Cerenia for nausea. Cyproheptadine for appy stim.
10/14 - Still in ER. Not eating much. Resting more comfortably. No insulin given.
10/15 - Tried to switch out methadone for bupe the previous night, but it didn't work. Back to methadone, with plans for a fentanyl patch to see if she can come home. Ate "quite a good meal" around noon. Looking better than she did on the 14th. Finally gave Butters some insulin. BG 300+
10/16 - Fentanyl patches out of stock. Waiting for delivery. IM mentions Butters has a gallop rhythm. Vitals all stable, but still not eating much. I asked them to check her liver enzymes with next blood panel this afternoon. Concerned about the not eating. BG 300+

10/17 - spoke to front desk this morning. The person offered to help get an update. All she could find out is that overnight last night Butters ate very little but was comfortable. The hospital had a huge influx of patients so never got called with an update, which is understandable.

Four nights in this hospital for her now. I can't believe this is a "mild" case of pancreatitis?! I can't even imagine what a moderate or severe case would be like.
My heart goes out to everyone who has or who had a kitty battling health issues in addition to FD. It's hard to see them so sick, and a lot of work and worry trying to keep them stable and as healthy as possible. :bighug:

It is good to hear Butters was comfortable last night.
Prayers for some positive news for you later :bighug:.

Awesome record keeping Lyla :). Do you have one for yourself....:p?

Day 1- scoop of ice cream, 4 ounces wine........
Day 7- gallon of ice cream, 1 bottle of wine ....

Butters will be discharged this afternoon:joyful:.
Someone at the hospital drove to a pharmacy last night get her a fentanyl patch, while they still wait for their supply to arrive. That was nice. She is doing well on the patch. Has been eating here and there...apparently she enjoys Tempations treats.
Her liver enzymes are normal.
Her BG is another matter. Has been very high. They gave her 0.5u again (half her normal dose of 1u that she was on before all this started) this morning and she has been in the 400s since yesterday afternoon. I will be asking for dosing advice later....do I keep her at 0.5u or increase maybe even to .75u?
I know she isn't out of the woods yet but I'm just glad to get her home.
I'll update when she is home.
Thanks everyone :bighug:

Aww. So happy she'll be back home with you and that she's got what she needs to feel better :)

Hopefully you can get her BG back under control easily, it was so perfect before she got sick.

Hope she is more relaxed at home with her mom and it helps her recover more quickly. Hugs to you both :bighug:

Alright Lyla and Butters, I'm so happy!!!!
I'm sure she will be more relaxed being at home and that they got the fentnyl
patch for you .Best news I heard all day.
Will be checking in thru the day to see how everything is going ♥♥♥:bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug:

Pom Pom are OUT and shaking Lyla :bighug::bighug:!!!

This is great news :)!!!

You have a tool for the BG so try not to get too worried. That is something you can manage easily with your experience :p.

I AM SO relieved to hear that she's coming home!!!

I think going back to the dose that worked for her before all this started should be ok. If they were feeding her kitty crack aka Temptations treats...then don't focus on her BG's right now...just go with the flow for a few days...hopefully she'll be back to eating the right things and her BG's will slide right back down.

Tell her that she has a lot of Auntie's rooting for her!!! Get well Butters!! :bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug:

Butters is home! She is on a lot of meds and acting very drugged but she is no longer meatloafing and her twitching isn't as bad.

Since she got home, she has peed in her litterbox, eaten 1/2 oz of her usual food, and has been drinking water nonstop. I believe the water drinking is because of her high BGs. Her last BG was 527 @+5, taken in the hosptial. We are now @+8.

Given how high her numbers are, do you think I should stick with .5u (half her current dose), or do I go up at all? We know she had tasty treats in the hospital. I'm planning to go back to her normal LC for as long as she eats it.

Meds:
Fentanyl patch: 12mcg
Gabapentin: 50mg every 8 hours
Cyproheptadine: 2mg every 12 hours
Cerenia: 8mg every 24 hours

Butters and I both say thank you for all the support! :bighug: She is still battling the pancreatitis but at least she is doing it at home now.

No dosing advice here but oh my goodness, over the moon she's home:bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug:! And you really timed her shave well :)

I know that feeling so well! Just being happy that they’re home no matter what kind of laundry list of meds you’ve got to juggle!! :bighug::bighug::bighug:

I tend to agree with Sue that her bg will regulate itself again. Although here I am still struggling with Minnie’s since her May hospitalizations. I’ll shut up and let others chum in :D

Welcome Home Butters:bighug::bighug::bighug:....where is a Pom Pom emoji when I need it?!

I know those #s are tough to see but as much I am sure you want to get them back down (been there!)...and you will, I would agree with Sue and stay with the dose tonight and see what happens with them as she settles back in. I would want to make sure I get a new baseline with her at home and also get a sense of what and how much she is going to eat before making a decision about the dosing. I’m sure she is exhausted—no pet or human sleeps really well in the hospital:(.

Woohoo! Baby Butters is home! :joyful::joyful::joyful::joyful:

Do Temptations come in maple cashew strawberry flavour? :p I've seen people give 1 or 2 as HC. If she's been enjoying them, it sounds like more than 1. Those vet BG tests, are they by any chance on the AT? Those will be higher in high numbers. Though still not Butters numbers of course. What dose you give tonight you can think of as an experiment and a chance to gather data. Both of you need to get back into routine. 0.5 units is probably not where she needs to be, but maybe you need a night without worrying about a kitty dropping.

I may fight Butters for the Temptations if I ever find them in that flavour.:p
They are AT numbers, yes!
I think based on what @Tomlin @Sue and Luci and you have said, I'll stick with 0.5u for tonight and probably tomorrow morning. I think I have enough to worry about right now with getting the hang of her meds schedule.

And now I have cut off her Temptations supply. Though I'd run right out to buy some if that's all she will eat. She still hasn't fallen asleep but has eaten a second 1/2 oz portion of her normal LC food.
I sure do want to get them back down! I get it, though. Gotta keep focusing on the pancreatitis and helping her recover. BGs will come back.

Yeah, glad she is home and comfortable. Once settled and back into routine, she will come down. Remember the depot has to rebuild again. Did they give you more fentanyl patches? They are tough to get off.

She is like “No Ice Cream and Temptations Celebration?” :p I am SO ecstatic she is eating at home:bighug::bighug:. That is awesome :)! Some munchies, snuggle time and rest.....so nice.

Good call. You can get some Smith and Nephew
Uni-Solve adhesive remover from Amazon. I use the wipes to get the sensors off if any part is still stuck & it works really well :). Just squeeze the pad slightly and rub back forth as you peel the patch off. I find it more controlled vs the bottle of liquid & cotton ball.

So so so super happy Butters is home, she say heck what do I have to do to get good drugs around here:eek:, stop eating?? And go to the hospital! Thought I thrown in a little humor.
So glad she’s peeing and eating some, agree with dosage as well, she’s been through a lot and some it might just be stress, she I’m is super happy to be home.

So glad Butters is home with you!! It's wonderful that she has eaten, and peed in the litter box for you. Nice job, Butters!!!

I'm sure she feels much better with the proper meds and the comfort of home with mom there for her. I imagine you do as well. Give her tons of cuddles and kisses. :bighug::bighug::bighug:

I'm sure her BG will come down for you soon, you were a pro with her. Enjoy your night:)

No. Fentanyl is a controlled substance and they won't give it to me for her, lest I decide to do something untoward with it. I have to bring her back on Tuesday to get it replaced.

Thanks for the reco. I assume I will have to remove a patch at one point, so will hang onto this for future reference. :)
