Hi, everyone. Max has pooped on the guest room bed twice in the last two days. So, I'm worried, of course. Something must be wrong. He has CKD/CRF. So, I am going to try to treat him for gastric acid with slippery elm bark to see if this helps. If it doesn't, off to the vet we go. He's not vomiting or failing to eat, but he does drink a fair amount of water even when he's fully hydrated.

Hope you are all well. Thinking of Claudia, Rocket and Comet. Poor Claudia.

I don't think this is related to diabetes.

He makes a strange sound in his throat. It's kind of like a growl, but he's not showing other signs of being in a defensive mode. He's just lying there sleepy-eyed, and he makes a strange, long, growl. Sometimes when I pick him up he makes another funny sound in his throat. I'm wondering if when I pick him up some stomach acid goes into his throat.

He's peeing a lot, and I think he's drinking more than he would normally, but his gums aren't tacky. They aren't particularly slippery either, but you know when you see a pee spot in the litter box, and it has a depression in the middle from a forceful pee? That's what I see sometimes and other times not.

Hi Dale. I know every little thing makes you worry, especially if it might include relapsing.
Tucker has his moments of peeing on the rug in the living room. I actually think he's got a touch of catzimers, since he uses the LB if I remind him. Go figure! He still likes to drink water, but I don't think that a problem. He still has larger pee clumps than his sister Sophie. Always has. His BG #s have remained in the 70s-90s, depending on time of day.
Tucker ands Sophie both growl. It can be something new in the house, something slightly moved, a new smell or seeing a kitty walk by the house.
I've always heard a cat will purr when in pain, as a way of self soothing. Not growl. I've also read that pooping on something is an extreme form of territorial behavior. Sounds like there is something new you brought into the house, object or smell. Sophie growled for days after bringing Tucker home from the vet! Guess the vetty smells were intimidating. Just my thoughts....
Hope all goes back to normal soon.

Oh Max, what's going on guy? Pooping on the bed? That's not so bad, but whatever's bothering you is what your bean wants to fix. Feel better soon.

Thank you, Rhiannon, Chris and Anne! I appreciate your concern. I'm not too worried unless this continues.

I have thought of a couple of other things that might have upset him. We had house guests sleeping in that bed, but they left on Tuesday the 9th -- a whole week before the poo. Max had switched over to the office being his favorite room before they arrived. So, I didn't think he'd get upset over that. However, he might have smelled them or their pets on the bed. The pets weren't here, but I know cats can smell a person's pet on the person even the person is miles away from home. Dogs, too, I'm sure.

The most likely thing is that I ran out of food for him on Sunday night after Petco closed. I had to get Fancy Feast for him. I gave him about 3 cans of Fancy Feast before he pooped on the bed. Maybe that upset his stomach. I hate to change his food suddenly, but I wanted to make sure to give him low carb food. Next time I'll just buy a chicken. He never gets sick from that.

I'll try to slippery elm anyway just in case.

Hi Dale, I hope you find some answers on what could be causing Max to poop in bed. With that sound in the throat, I'm also noticing it with Maggie. Hers sounds more like when you're trying to clear the phlegm from a cold. Mags goes into the Vet for recheck of B/w, and I'll ask Vet about it. He did say to give her Pepcid every day which sometimes I forget, bad Bean. Good luck with the slippery elm bark. Keep us posted.

I would rule out a couple of things. Is Max experiencing any arthritis? If so, he may have trouble either getting into the litter box or squatting. If the bowel movement is formed, it's less a problem of not being able to make it to the box in time.

Is the litter box clean enough? Is Max unhappy with the type of litter you're using?

There are several GI problems that can effect defecation. You may need to get Max evaluated by your vet.

Hi Dale-
Can't really offer any input but hopefully it is just as simple as the food change. Max, we want to see you stay healthy. At least the BG looks good.

Thanks for popping in on Fur Ball's condo. I feel so nervous and its hard to really allow myself to actually believe he could be in remission. nailbite_smile Crazy huh? I don't like the blue numbers (even though they are low and within normal limits) and am wondering if he needs to be eating more smaller meals. He is eating at AM, +1 +2 and then whatever wet food is still leftover, he will graze on it later. Still trying to figure out what would be best for him.

Check this out: So uplifting! (No pun intended, lol.) Here's the video: http://www.liveleak.com/view?i=704_1350489947 This is the news story: http://news.yahoo.com/rescue-baby-elephant-rope-land-rover-145411591.html.

Sienne, As for arthritis, he seems to be doing okay in the jumping department. He jumps up lithely on our bed which is pretty high. The bed he pooped on is unusually low.

The poop was formed just fine both times; not hard either. I watch him go in and out of the box. He hops out quickly, and he never covers his poo or pee any longer. He tries, of course, but he puts his paw outside the box and scratches at the floor -- LOL, he's not going to cover anything that way! He looks back at the box afterward, and I swear I see him shrug his shoulders then turn and walk away!!!! I can practically hear him say "Eh, screw it."

I keep the box clean, and it was pretty clean when he did this -- only one pee in there; he hasn't ever seemed to dislike the litter. I've been using it for at least 6 months. However, I DID MOVE THE BOX! Gasp! And the last time he did this I had moved the box. Bad bean! While our guests were here I didn't want it in the foyer. So, I put it in our bedroom. I left it there after the guests left, and he did this about 4 or 5 days after they left. Maybe he expected me to move it back?

Who knows? It was probably a combination of everything being different for so many days in a row, and he said ENOUGH! I'm pooping on the bed! Interesting that he chose the bed we hadn't been sleeping on for about a week. We moved downstairs when the guests were here, and we have stayed down here since then.

We'll be going in for a check up soon, and I'll see if we can do some tests for GI issues.

GREG, Don't worry about the blue numbers! Max had some; and most cats who are in their trial period have a few. I don't think they mean anything as long as the cat isn't getting higher than normal numbers consistently. I know how you feel though!!! It is so hard to wait the whole 14 days and not worry about a blue number! It'll be fine!

Our kitties certainly are sensitive about their environments, eh? I hope Max feels better and decides to poop in a more appropriate location - good thing it isn't gooey, at least!

Be cool, Max! ~ Buster
