Well, all that anxiety was a hiding to nothing as I got a call from Fitzel's new vet that the u/s Tech they were bringing in had an emergency call. She offered to reschedule at 3:30pm (the original appointment was 1:30pm) but Fitz had no insulin and was fasting for this test. I didn't think it wise to make her wait longer for insulin or food and this all turned out to be a gift as you can see by her AMPS number.

Even with the bupe she's still fluctuating wildly. I believe some of this is my anxiety, which I know she's picking up, but is the rest the pancreatitis, or her poor beleagured pancreas beta cells giving up the fight - or something more sinister lurking within that we've yet to discover.

Not sure if I should have or not, but I upped her insulin again to .25. I know I'm not getting enough cycles at the same dose but her nadir was so high the other day. It's usually mid-green - not mid-yellow. If I should lower her again, someone let me know. I'm open as can be to what to do for my Pirate.

I can really empathise with the poster who felt like giving up. I'm not going to do that, but I understand the gut feeling of helplessness and hopelessness.

I'm not sure when the u/s will be rescheduled - hopefully this week, but I don't know. The vet office doesn't have its own u/s machine and uses an outside source.

hmmmm, yes, I do think increasing to 0.25u was premature. She only had two cycles of 0.15u, not enough to refill her insulin depot and see what that dose can do for her when shot BID. Have you tested again since the 65?

edited because I had asked about Spec fPL, and I looked back at your previous threads and saw that you did have that test. :smile:

Hi Libby - thank you for stopping by.

Fitzel had the Spec fSPL which was sent out to a lab. Yes, the u/s is for pancreatits, but I'm not going to allow any aspirants or biopsies. Fitzel is 12 and a half years old and I'm not going to do chemo or surgery on her. I lost two cats in the past several years to cancer and I don't think their quality of life made up for the effects and recovery from chemo and surgery.

If a mass is found with the u/s I'll treat Fitzel with the best palative care I can give. I want her comfortable. Happy. Herself as much as possible, but I am willing to trade quality of life for quantity. Right now she seems happier than she's been for a few weeks. Could be the nippy nanner. :-D Or the bupe most likely.

Fitz is 71 @ +5.5

I value your advice and will take her back down to the .15. It doesn't seem that the .25 did damage, but now that you explained about re-filling her shed again (something that left my mind for whatever reason) it makes sense.

last time she got 0.25u, it took her from 307 to 31. Too low! It's true that her insulin requirements might be higher now if she is experiencing pain, but you have to be careful about increasing her to a dose that dropped her to 31. Plus, even just two days ago 0.15u left her lower than you were comfortable shooting at PMPS, and that was on a partially depleted depot.

I'm glad she is feeling good, though!

Good to see Fitzel with greens but keep your eye on her.

Sorry ultra sound was cancelled :-| I think you were correct to up dose to 0.25 because you were available to catch her if she went to low as she did not. It is very difficult to judge dosing right now because of bupe. Trust your own judgement and gut instinct!! Remember you are the one holding the syringe and you know Fitzel better than anyone else as well as ecid.
