yesterday's fun & games...!
All back to regular routine today. Thank you ALL yesterday for your care and attention (and knowledge!) it really helped!
Snagged a Ketone test this morning - Negative.
WCR: Sooty still a food-aholic, still into everything... he even tried to eat a lancet this morning! One good thing though - we just tried putting the Xobaline tablet on the couter top - and he just ate it - all by himself!
Ps are all OK, thank goodness.

I just downloaded Sooty's SS into Excel and had it calculate his average AMPS - PMPS BG readings, from 9/24 until now. Here's what it came out at:

Averages: PMPS 299; +2 242; +3 245; +4 230; +5 248; +6 239; +7 254; +8 240; +9 262; +10 260; +11 267; PMPS 267

(we have no +1 numbers). I know this isn't all that meaningful as regards dosing etc but it would seem that if he has a Nadir, it's at about +4.

OK now I'm late for work - gotta go to the tbp!

Pink AMPS doesn't seem to be unusual for him... it's almost as if Lantus doesn't work too well in the dark !!

Oh dear - not a good report this PM. recently we were getting a bit encouraged and really seemed to be finally making some progress. No longer it seems...

Cathy is telling me that when I'm out at work his food craving has actually been getting worse every day since he has been on 3.0u and today she tells me that he has been really terrible. He is once again absolutely DESPERATE for food all the time and is making her life a misery. This although he is eating like a horse. He is getting at least 16 oz of Friskies LC per day spread out through the day. Cathy says he is crying all the time for food all day long and trying to eat everything in sight - even a pencil, earlier this evening.

His BGs on reflection really do seem to be actually going higher, since he has been on 3 units and on close examinationn of the SS seem to have been rising since he was at 2.25u.

What is going on has anyone seen anything like this before? The more insulin, the higher the BGs go and the worse the hunger is getting?

It doesn't look to me like his numbers have gone up appreciably. However, it's been 8 cycles at this dose and Sooty is still in the yellows. How about increasing his dose tomorrow to 3.25u?

As far as the food goes, until he's better regulated, Sooty's going to be hungry much of the time. Insulin allows glucose to move from the bloodstream into the cells. Sooty needs enough exogenous insulin to allow this to happen. We're not there yet. Because not enough glucose is getting into the cells, he's hungry. The other issue may be whether Cathy is more likely to feed him than you are. If she's a soft touch, he knows the crying will get him food. He may have Cathy very well trained!

Perry I think we've all been where you are and everyone kept telling me to be patient and they were right. I think this whole thing is a roller coaster and sometimes we do the best we can but we're still on the ride. Just hang in there and I bet you'll find a dose he likes and then he won't be quite so hungry.

Excellent point Sienne mentions about Cathy maybe being a softer touch. Shnookie, one of my civies, will cry and cry for more food, or a different flavor with me, but when my son feeds him, he eats what he's given.
