Good Morning LL  We`re still confused about why Reuben won`t eat, other than that he is okay. LB fine, purrs, sleeps in relaxed positions, sometimes hunkers down like he feels bad, and when he`s reallly hungry he acts like a completely normal cat -- animated, talky, rubbing on everything and moving around. It`s the only time. And then when the food comes, he can`t eat, except for a few bites of KFC (if it`s right out of the oven) and Whiskas Gravy. I syringe feed the rest.

I hope everyone has a good day cat_pet_icon 's to all the kitties, and :YMHUG:'s to all the beans :-D

Ongoing Medications:
Clavamox 50mg bid
Pepcid 2.5mg bid

Re: 10/15 Reuben AMPS 111

Aww - poor Ruben. Maybe try some meat flavors of baby food? Hope his appy turns around soon! :YMHUG:

Re: 10/15 Reuben AMPS 111

Hi guys .. sorry to hear reuben is not eating well .. something must be going around cause there are other kitties doing the same thing! I sure hope he starts feeling better soon .. it is a nice blue start to the day though .. have a great day guys!

Re: 10/15 Reuben AMPS 111 1*97

Hi Alexa, Glad to hear Reuben is ok except for low appy. If LB action is ok and he is not losing weight, maybe he is getting sufficient food for his needs? He is certainly getting nice numbers on this dose  Enjoy your day!

Re: 10/15 Reuben AMPS 111 1*97 2*120

+2/120 I am guess this is a food spike, he finally had a good breakfast at +1.

Thank you Jane, Tara, Devon and Leslie! --

He ate a good breakfast at +1, I pureed the friskies and after one syringe-full he decided he would eat it off of a spoon.

I just found Cerenia - a miracle!! - at a clinic downtown. I`m going down to get it right now, as all I can think is that this is pancreatic flare nausea that the pepcid is not addressing.

Hi (((Alexa and Reuben))) I missed the end of your condo yesterday and help Reuben's belly gets back on track. Let me know how the Cerenia goes. I've tried it twice on Leo for car sickness and it stopped his vomiting, but of course Leo's barf-o-rama's were entirely car related. Healing vines to Reuben and sleeping vines to you.

My first thought reading here was have you checked in his mouth?
I sure would hate for him to come up with a new issue but wondered if he might have a tender spot that makes him hesitate.

I hope the Cerenia gets some results.
Reuben is definitely in the over 2000 piece puzzle category.

Well... at least you didn`t say 'over 3,000 piece category'

Now, I suppose we could call today a success if we decide that we are trying to RAISE bg, not Lower it...

IDK... he may be working on being a 3,000 piecer

Just checking in to see how you and Reuben are, Alexa. I hope you got some rest last night and I hope he will start eating more than KFC although whatever it takes.

Sending him healing vines and maybe with these numbers, you'll get some rest tonight.

Thank you so much Marje! Yes, I am remembering what sleep is like, and I think I like it! He is eating a little better, and his regular food now (anti-jinx). I got ondansetron and gave him the first dose before the pm shot.

I still don`t understand that mega-huge 67 point drop the half hour before PM shot time on 10/14 though. What does it tell me about how his bg reacts. What caused it. And now that I think of it, it more than likely had already been falling when I took the first reading. I just feel like there is important information there, and I need to figure out what it is. Any insight would be greatly appreciated!

Rhiannon - I will check his mouth in the morning, good thought. Thanks!

Lisa, thank you for the vines and good thoughts... so much appreciated! :-D I ended up getting ondansetron instead. tails crossed.

Poring over the Drama Meezer's SS - you're right, that drop is odd to me, too. (The one on the 14th I mean, where he dropped over 60 points from +11.5 to +13.)

A couple of things:

--- Your SS Notes say that he dropped those 67 points (from 134 to 67) in 30 minutes.
--- The SS BG Boxes say that it took 1.5h (from +11.5 to +13).
--- In the 14th October Condo, you state that it happened within 30 minutes as well, and that the *actual* PMPS was 167 (boosted by the KFC you fed).
--- From that, I think the sequence was:
(+11.5) 134
(+12) 67
(+13 = PMPS) 167

Hope I got that right  Onwards then to some thoughts on that dip - and I'm just thinking "out loud" as it were.

--- There can be so-called "second dips" at the end of cycles - BUT those are normally classified as dips that do NOT go below that cycle's nadir (which it looks as though he did not, although I guess it is technically possible somewhere between +2 and +6 - this is one of those times I wish I could see "invisible" SS-numbers!). So, most probably, this was not a second dip. (Having said that, when taking into account the dreaded meter variance - hypothetically, the "134" *could* have been a "107", and the "67" half an hour later *could* have been "80" - then, if the ostensible nadir of "97" was also off by the 20% variance, and was actually a "78", the second dip option would *just* make it into mathematical possibility. Technically.)
---You say in your SS Notes that he hadn't eaten in a few hours as that drop happened, and that that was when he vomited the dark liquid (possibly containing blood). Not eating can cause a drop in BG. Vomiting could too I guess (though I am nowhere near sure - does anyone else know this?) though I would think that's only a real factor when a cat has scarfed down food and vomits it back up very quickly ("scarf and barf" type opf thing) since then the food woulodn't have yet been able to affect the BG. It would still seem quite a sudden and drastic drop to me, if the not eating were the explanation, but I suppose it is possibly a factor. (Again, possible meter variance could make the drop be less drastic than the numbers you got suggest.)
--- There's always, I suppose, the possibility that your meter went haywire and gave you a false reading. (How long have you had the batteries that are in the meter now? Was it lying in the sun? Anything else that could have affected it temporarily, drop of water on it perhaps?)
--- The other omnipresent option os that it was just Reuben being a cat and throwing you a wonky number for no real reason at all.

If it's none of those, I'm out. Sorry :?

Anyone else see something I don't?

Hugs
Jane
