I am freaking out. My dad just called, my mom watched Leo lick his belly for a long time and went to rub his belly and he bit her, when she looked closely at his belly there was blood all over it. My parents aren't sure if it's his mouth or belly that's bleeding, he's not cooperating with them at the moment. So they phoned and thankfully Dr Andrea is on call this weekend and told my dad to bring Leo in this afternoon.

He's been eating fine today, my dad said he ate alot for breffis and his snack, I spoke to him early this morning to find out if his mouth was hurting at all and my dad didn't figure it was so we decided not to give him any bupe today.

Please LL, keep my Leo in your thoughts and prayers, I feel so helpless being at work and not being able to do anything.

Re: 10/15 Leo AMPS 79, Going to vet, bleeding :(

WHEW!!! All is going to be ok, nothing wrong with Leo's tooth extractions and the sutures are still in his mouth and look good. But his belly on the other hand, he has licked a 4" by 4" spot so badly that its bleeding. He was not licking his belly when i dropped him off on Thursday so it must have started on Friday or today, why the belly licking, i have no idea. Andrea mentioned something about pain and this is how animals deal with pain. Andrea gave my dad some AB's and 2 more days of bupe. I could not 100% understand the name of the AB that was given to Leo (not cerenia, i've told her repeatedly not to give it to him) as my dad was driving and talking on his cell phone. I talked to Leo a bit too on the cell phone, he was meowing into the phone and i said HI BABY!! I'll give him a call later when he's home and got the AB's right in front of him.

Glad to hear that Leo is OK. I hope you figure out what is causing the licking- it sounds painful dor the poor guy. Could it be stress or allergies?

Hi Tracy, I'm so glad Leo is okay and hope the antibiotics and bupe help Leo feel better. I know what a scare it must have been to be so far. Your parents are a Godsend. Scritches to Leo. Hugs.

You know my sister likes to bug me all the time that Leo has abadonment issues with me leaving him to go to work. We joke about it all the time, but seriously sometimes i think it might be true. My parents say that Leo has real catitude, but only when i'm around. He slaps the dogs, other cats, walks around growling, hissing, etc. but the second i leave he's fine, turns into a happy, furry, purry boy that loves cuddles from my parents and his brother Toban. Could Leo have abadonment issues? and this is how its presenting itself?

Ok so talked to my father again, Leo is on clavametin, has anyone heard of it? It must be another name for Clavamox. There was nothing wrong with his belly, he just licked all the fur off and so badly that its bleeding. He is wearing a cone and IS NOT happy about it.

I'm glad Leo is OK.

Are you sure it's not Clavamoxin? I can't find any reference to Clavametin.

Could this also be allergy? Have you had a hard freeze yet?

Oh, so glad that Leo is OK! I was hoping that it would be something relatively minor. He may not like the cone, but it's for his own good.

Healing vines to you, Leo, and comfort vines to you, Tracy!

OMG Tracy!! So so sorry for you, Leo, and your Dad! What a scare
Glad it was a psychological cat reaction & not an injury! Cats do some really strange things and I myself am still learning as my 2 were my first cats...Moonie is very unhappy when I am not around & acts quite differently..Hope sweet Leo is all better real quick! Hugs from us!

Good point Sienne, i was thinking allergy too. The only new foods i bought for him this week was Weruva-Chicken Soup with Pumpkin, it wasn't on Janet and Binky's list but i looked over the ingredients and it seemed alright, i cracked open a can (5.5 oz) on Thursday night when we got to my parents place and he ate maybe 1/4 of it? Leo could have definitely started the belly licking after eating it.

We are getting into the season of freeze/thaw right now, nights are below freezing and the days are above freezing. What would that have to do with this? I'm very interested to hear why!

I tried looking up the clavametin as well and couldn't find anything, it has to be clavamox. AB's for 10 days BID.

What a relief to know that Leo's problem is not too serious. I bet he looks so cute with the cone! That is pretty funny how he gives you all the catitude and then is a perfect gentleman when you leave. There might be something to the abandonment issues, although it sounds like it may be more of an allergy thing. Hope you get some answers soon.

Hi Tracy-

I'm glad he's okay. Maybe you could have a session with an animal communicator to see what's bugging him? I've used Dawn Allen and Claudia from this board. Both have helped me.
