Good Morning all,

Jessica BG level seems regulated around dosage 5.75U to 6U. However, she is still quite hungry since I gave her all FF can food instead of mixed with chicken beast.
She needs almost 6 cans of 3.25 ozs per day. ( 3 cans in th morning , 3 cans at night)
Is it too much for her?
Most of the time, I can't take her PS blood Gluocose level without giving her food first.
I can only take the BG level test around 15 to 20 min after food.
Is it her BC level range still too high?
Recently, she drank less water and her stool back to normal.
That's a good sign. Hope I can reduce her appetite a liitle bit.
 
Hi guys .. I can't tell you if you are feeding her too much or not, but I "think" until she's quite regulated her food intake will probably be high ... She's definitely giving you some nice blues so that's good .. the less water and firmer stool is a good thing too .. baby steps :-D have a great day guys!
 
Hi, diabetic cats often need to eat more because they can't make use of all the food they eat. To know how much to feed, you need to know what her ideal weight would be and how many calories are in each can of food you are feeding. Then if she is at her ideal weight feed 20 to 30 calories per pound of ideal weight per day. An active 10 lb. cat would need 300 calories a day, an inactive 12 lb. cat only 240. If you are feeding that many cans of FF you might look into a food w/ more calories per ounce and larger cans. Larger cans often bring the cost per ounce down for the premium foods. Packaging is a big part of the cost.

Since she can't keep chicken down you may want to try some other unique protein like rabbit or venison. Be careful of beef because many cats can't handle that either.

If she is overweight there is a more complicated formula (13.6 X optimal lean body weight in pounds] + 70) as a starting point, you may need to reduce from that but you don't want weight reduction to be more than 1% to 2% a week. I wouldn't worry too much about weight reduction (if she needs it) until she is regulated though.
 
it is a lot of food, but your best guidance on whether or not it's too much is going by her weight. if she's gaining weight, and she doesn't need to gain weight, then it might be too much. if she's losing weight then it might not be enough.

i think the sooner you check her BGs after feeding the better. by 30 minutes the carbs would be affecting the test. in some cats it would be showing up by 20 minutes. can you check her while she's eating instead of waiting until afterwards?
 
That also seems like a lot of food to me but it does depend on her weight and activity as previously stated. I'm glad her poos are better.

I'm not sure why you took her dose down? If she were my kitty, I'd go back up to 6u and see how she does.

She gaining back weight a bit since she got diabetic half year ago. Her current weight is 10lbs. 11lbs was the weight before diabetic.
I know 6 cans per day is definately too much since her weight is stable.
May be I should add some water in the food to satisfy her appetite.
