FRIDAY flip_cat flip_cat flip_cat Hope you all got a good night's rest and are ready for the weekend! Gracie seems to like this 282 number...she is frequently at this for AMPS...funny, huh? I'll be happy when I see a blue number for AMPS!! But...so many possibilities with her based on the last few days...we have been elated at the amount of time she has spent in the healing range since Tuesday.
WCR: oh she's feeling good :-D 4Ps and she and Tobey are racing around here. Ever since her visit to the eye vetty, she's had one runny eye but the vet said all was good so I'm wondering if she had a little reaction to all those drops they put in her eye. She still has a teeny, tiny bit of swelling in her meibomial glands so we are continuing eye soaks and will go back in Jan. She's such a good eater for us.

Question: does anyone use an alcohol pad to wipe over the top of the pen/vial before you draw out the insulin? The instructions to the lantus said to do that, and I have been but I don't know if it's really necessary and I worry that if the alcohol isn't all dry, it might take the coating off the needle. Thoughts? Thanks!

DH going back to work so I want to spend some time with him this morning before he goes. I'll check into condos later....let's all have a :mrgreen: :mrgreen: day out there!

Hoping that Gracie will bring that yellow back down to the lower numbers. Come on Gracie!
I don't use the alcohol myself so I can't speak to that issue....

Morning guys! My vet told me to do the alcohol wipe as well, I think I did it once on my first vial, but then I had similar concerns as you. They had also told me that something like white crystals might form if I did not do this, so I figured I'd wait to see those - Never have, so never wiped again.

Lets see some more blue Gracie! Maybe even some greens today?

I haven't used the alcohol wipe either, and no issues with the insulin.

Gracie sure is looking god lately - you guys have done such a good job with her. I so look forward to what she does today.

Good luck for DH and the return to work. I hope that goes well for him.

WOO HOOOO....our girl wants to be blue or green today and this morning I'm feeding 5% cause she LOVES Cowboy Cookout!!

We keep our used syringes and lancets in an empty 1/2 gal plastic milk jug and then take it to the vet for disposal when it's full. Mike was looking for it this morning to get rid of the syringes and couldn't find it...but it had been on the counter earlier. Guess where he found it....not a hard question considering my tired state of mind lately...it was in the frig :lol: :lol: :lol:

We're all ready Mannie, Binks, Moonie, Raja, Shadow, Tess, Buzz, Spot, Blackie...and all the kitties...gets them all Mannie and come on over...it's time to prune the catnip and my bean bought the salmon and FRESH tortillas (they are so yummy and she bought the no carb kind...whatever that means). This will be so fun..we can still lay out around the pool.

Thanks Pat!! I gave her 1/2 tsp 6% with dribble of gravy again....I really want her to surf this and not pop up.

She's looking so good. As you know from our PMs, Marjorie, I most definitely don't know the nuts and bolts of insulin treatment - haven't had to undertake that yet - but it certainly looks to me as if the outcome we hoped for just might be what happens! In any case, I'm sure Gracie is feeling better with the treatment she is getting now (and you must be feeling more in control, too).

Jean...Thanks so much for checking in and I'm so glad Megan is still doing well and you don't have to dance this dance. It has had a steep learning curve and we're finally starting to figure out what Gracie needs to control her dives and to get her to surf but she still surprises us....like a 144 at PMPS when she had been in yellow all day :lol: :lol: I look back on our initial posts and how freaked out I was...just like all newbies (even tho we still are definitely that with so much to learn); I'm not sure how much in control we'll ever be but we are at least getting more comfortable and a 51 does not freak me out like it did at first! She is most definitely feeling better with insulin on board and she is totally back to her sweet, crazy baby self thank GOD and I do thank HIM.

Thank you, Angela...I've been so swamped this morning monitoring Grace, that I haven't gotten to any condos yet...gotta see what's going on in LL!!

So I gave DH a heart attack....when Gracie was 70 @ 6.5, I decided to go ahead to my golf lesson since I hadn't fed in 1-1/2 hours and she was slowly coming up... I figured she would surf just fine. He called me from Vegas and said "you went out when she was at 70??? I can't believe you left her" :lol: :lol: Then I felt like a bad mamabean so I rushed to my lesson, did it, and rushed home only to find she is back up to 194 grr_red grr_red grr_red I don't know if I overfed the HC but I probably didn't even give her a total of 1 tsp of gravy over a couple hours. I just fed her so we'll see what she does tonight.

It's POURING down rain here now flip_cat flip_cat so think I'll grab a blanket and go out and take a nappus on the front patio. Will check in on condos later. Hope everyone is well.

I doubt that +9 is food related. Gracie will most likely bounce. Not to worry -- she's clearing these bounces in less and less time. Great cycle today and it certainly seems like you feel like you're in control. Great job. (And tell DH to stop panicking!!)

What a beautiful cycle! Don't worry your, instincts were fine. It was late in the cycle, Gracie was going up and no food influence for an hour and a half. Life goes on.

Thank good ess Mannie remembered to put the top up on the roadster. Just got a text that they piled in with the first drops and are nearly at Buzz'z for the bonfire. Thanks for the update on how Tess was doing, she sent a text w/ her +9 numbers and said she'd be home for her shot but might have to leave again right away. Wanted to know when I would trust her w/ her own insulin supply. ohmygod_smile

Sienne...I know you remember it was just three weeks ago that I was asking for help when her BG was in the 300s..."when do I test, what do I do". See how far I've come with the wonderful coaching in LL? What a team!!! I know I still have so much to learn but I truly don't panic as much...having said that, I still haven't shot low yet but Gracie is giving me gradual practice and letting me get comfy with each step before throwing me into the shooting low scenario. Yes...it will be interesting to see what she does at PMPS tonight. I'll probably do a +11 ...learning my lesson on that one.

Glad they made it ok, Ann...I was worried when Mannie spun a little gravel as they left :lol: :lol: I'm thinking you can trust Tess with her own insulin supply!!!

I missed another great day for Gracie! Marjorie, you are doing a fantastic job with her (you too Mike) I'm so happy to see these numbers from her.

Thanks Libby, Anne, and Michelle...we are working hard at figuring her out and she is so responsive to HC that I have to go really light with her on it. I wouldn't be surprised if she runs a little higher tonight...she says she's very tired. I am afraid I overtest her (you can see on her SS) but since she sometimes can drop quickly, I don't want to miss anything and evidently there will come a time when she's ready for a reduction that I'll have to give her higher carb to keep her up.

Don't worry too much Michelle....we live on a private road and he just spun a little on the cul de sac up the way but it's quiet and no traffic....he was really proud of himself :cool: :cool:

RUT-RO.....I think Sienne knows my cat better than I do. Actually, when I got that 194 at +9 (I only took it because I had been away and DH was worried), I figured we were in for a high PMPS....oh well...she came down from a high AMPS yesterday.

Disappointing after the last couple of days but at least she spent some time in the healing range today. So I'll take Michelle's advice and get some sleep. May get up to do a +4. NI NI!!

I always hated those bounces after a really good couple of cycles. Don't worry - she'll clear them soon enough. So --- grab some sleep while you can. She is doing so very well. this is just one little "blip", and tomorrow it will be gone.
