do you guys think I should up now or wait a little with the switch back to lantus. just don't know whether I should do too many changes just yet. we got a yellow today :-D and his numbers are lowering slightly now during the am. I just wish I hadn't switched in the first place to levermir :-( but I just though I was doing what was right. its so tough. I NEVER know whether im doing the right thing for my fur baby!

must mention he caught his paw last night.his pad bled soooooo much ive never been so scared. I heard this screetching at 4am this morning and there was blood everywhere. I thought id have to call the emergency vet but as a first aider I did what id do with a human and raised his paw and put pressure on it and it stopped!
bless him as stroked his ears to distract him he was purring like nothing had happened. meanwhile mamabean is nearrly having a heart attack!

Hi Anna - I think you can increase to 6U tonight if you want. He's high enough and that yellow was just barely. It's time to get his numbers down. A favour to ask, go you go into the US version of the SS and mark when you started Lantus back again. Don't fret about making the change to Levemir - we never know how our cats will handle the change until we try something. You had his best interest at heart at the time.

Sorry to hear about the bleeding but good to hear you stopped it. Do you know how he did it? I have some styptic powder around just in case my kitties get a cut, or if I accidentally cut the quick when trimming their nails. I just got it at the pet stores - it helps to stop bleeding.

oh wendy I was terrified. ive no idea. he was sat on the window ledge in my bedroom. I don't know whether he got it stuck in the blind or caught it getting down on the radiator. ive no idea, but that screetcging will haunt me forever!!!

oh I didn't know it doesn't appear on the us ss. ive done it on the world one so will do it now!

hes lower than he was on levermir and had no blacks as yest on lantus so I feel like were heading in the right direction. I wonder what would've happened if id kept him on levermir and upped the dose but I JUST COULDNT risk him fading away again.so im confident ive done the right thing!

How scary for you Anne!!

I'm like Wendy...I keep styptic powder around in case I trim the claws a little too short...and they bleed like crazy when you get into that little tiny vein!

Don't worry about changing to Levemir and back..we all do what we think is best at the time. You saw that Bailey wasn't seeming to respond well at all and switched back. I agree it was the responsible thing to do

Good luck with the dosecrease!

i might have missed a condo or two over the weekend while i was gone - why didn't you just increase his Lev dose more per the protocol?

It is fine that you switched back, but i think you might've seen more results if you'd followed the protocol dosing guidelines. Were you seeing a personality change on the Lev at all? I would definitely increase the Lantus. He's just not at a high enough dose of anything right now.

That does sound scary about the paw. Sending quick healing vines to Bailey, and good luck with the dose increase.

yeah Julie, with the lev he was great to start with then as I increased the doses he went downhill. playing less then kept hiding away under the radiator and not wanting to know for the 2 days before I switched back to lantus.anyway were back on track and hes playing again and interested in his usual things. :-)
ive upped his dose to 6 last night so we'll c what that dose brings.
