Yesterday's CONDO

AMBG 140, +4=150, +5=99, +7=90, +8.75=100
PMBG 173 (after a ~2 hour visit at the vets... I'm considering that a win since he was at 165 post vet while on insulin! ), +6=198

20cc Core 5% just after AMBG, +1, +4, +5, +7.25, missed his +9 snack since he had a vet visit and I didn't want him traveling with food in his stomach.
20cc Core 5% just after PMBG, +1, 10cc @+3 (going easy on the food this evening since his numbers are running high from the vet visit)

Yesterday's values:

AMBG 119, +7=116, +10=130
PMBG 110, +3=185, +4=163, +6=128, +9=151

Poor Shadow didn't have a good night. High numbers and soiling outside the litterbox again. I didn't even get morning cuddles! He has a vet appointment early this evening, so I'm hoping that we can get this sorted out. I don't know if it is arthritis pain, pancreatitis, IBD or something worse - all I know is that he's not very happy right now. Has he failed his trial to top it all off?

I just found a hairball in one of his regular sleeping locations. I'm not 100% sure it's his, but the timing seems awfully coincidental. He's feeling much better now and is demanding attention. Makes me feel a little better!

Re: 10/14 Shadow B OTJ Trial D4 AMBG 140

Sorry to hear that Shadow is not feeling well. Try testing again around +3 to see if his pancreas is working. For now, let's not make any decisions on the trial until after the vet visit. One day of bad numbers due to something is not a reason to fail the trial. We had one member who had to travel for several hours with her cat, and he got so stressed with travel he hit the reds. But was back to green the next day.

Sending tons of good vetty vines your way. :YMHUG:

Re: 10/14 Shadow B OTJ Trial D4 AMBG 140, +4=150

Well, he got 20cc's just after I tested his AMBG and got a 140, but I also fed another 20cc's at +1. Now he's at 150 3 hours later (+4). I usually feed again at +3, but held back for an hour to see if his values had dropped. He's just not acting like himself today. I went ahead and gave him another 20 after that +4 test and will give another 20 at +5.

Is that too much food at a time? I'm spreading his meals out over the course of the day, but should I just give 5cc's and then retest 3 hours later? I'm a little confused as to what constitutes a small meal...

Here we are at +5 and he just woke me up begging for food and cuddles. I tested on a hunch and got a 99. I think he's feeling a bit better.

Re: 10/14 Shadow B OTJ Trial D4 AMBG 140, +4=150, +5=99

Sending good vetty vines for Shadow. Sorry I don't know about the food question. I'm not sure how much food is in a CC.

Re: 10/14 Shadow B OTJ Trial D4 AMBG 140, +4=150, +5=99

5cc's is about a teaspoon or so, so 20cc would be 4 teaspoons. (I should probably have clarified earlier! Sorry!)

Re: 10/14 Shadow B OTJ Trial D4 AMBG 140, +4=150, +5=99

If I'm just giving Furball a little bit of food, I usually give her 1/4 of a can of food. I think that equals about 2 teaspoons.

Re: 10/14 Shadow B OTJ Trial D4 AMBG 140, +4=150, +5=99

The important thing with food is to make sure he's getting enough calories overall during the day. One formula I saw said to feed 15 calories per pound per day. So if the kitty weighs 12 pounds, he would get at least 180 calories (12 times 15) per day. Dr. Lisa's chart lists the calories. I hope this makes sense.

Re: 10/14 Shadow B OTJ Trial D4 AMBG 140, +4=150, +5=99

When Furball was first diagnosed with FD, I bought a baby/toddler scale so I could weigh her once a week to make sure she was maintaining her weight. Do you weigh Shadow?

Re: 10/14 Shadow B OTJ Trial D4 AMBG 140, +4=150, +5=99

Yep! I have a baby scale and weigh him about 3 times a week at the same time each day after his fluids. His weight varies by a few ounces, but as long as I don't see a downward trend, I try not to worry.

I'm really just concerned about how much food to give in order to trigger his pancreas to work. I've been giving the +9 snack of 5cc/1tsp regularly, but I didn't know if that's the same amount I should be giving when I get a blue number during the OTJ trial prior to a 3 hour recheck.

was 20ccs/4tsp at AM/PM shot times and then again at +1 what he had been getting pre-trial?

Re: 10/14 Shadow B OTJ Trial D4 AMBG 140, +4=150, +5=99, +7=

His feeding times for the pre-trial were 20cc/4tsp just after AMPS, then again at +1, +3, +4 and more recently, +6. I tried to fit in all his feedings before his nadir when he was on insulin (at around + 7) with a 1tsp snack at +9.

Today I held off his +3 meal since that was only 2 hours after his last feeding and I wanted to see how he looked a full 3 hours after a regular meal. That's when I got the 150. I've just been giving him food when he's been asking for it, but testing beforehand. His last 2 meals have resulted in 90s only an hour or two after feeding, so I think he may have produced a hairball that was elevating his numbers.

The numbers have indeed improved since +4
That's more like it !
( pesky furballs)

Re: 10/14 Shadow B OTJ Trial D4 AMBG 140, +4=150, +5=99, +7=

I don't know the best time(s) to feed to trigger the pancreas. If you're still wondering, I would put food ? in the subject line. Nice to see those greens.

Re: 10/14 Shadow B OTJ Trial D4 +7=90, +8.75=100 PMBG 165 (v

Poor Shadow had a rough time at the vet. They had to restrain him in order to palpate his abdomen and they muzzled the little guy. He's probably still stiff and sore from all the poking and prodding. I really don't imagine his numbers will improve much before then anyway. So I'm going to bed and we will let things go for a bit and see what a few hours can do for him. Here's hoping for nice blues/greenies!

*Update* After feeding, hie bumped up a little (+6=198) but dropped back to a much better number (+9=125). Is that enough of an improvement to show that his pancreas is working?
